The emperor’s orders regarding Christians were simple: "Put to death anyone who calls on the name of the Crucified".

In Thessalonika, proconsul Demetrios, instead of following orders to execute Christians, once a secret Christian, now openly confessed the Christ. It is said that in his teaching zeal he became for Thessalonika "a second Apostle Paul" in the same city where Saint Paul founded the first community of believers (1 Thes., 2 Thes.). Like Paul, Saint Demitrios was also destined by the Lord to martyrdom. At dawn on 26 October 306 Roman soldiers and the holy saint through with spears.

☦️Apolytikion (Third Tone):

The world has found in you a great champion in time of peril, as you emerged the victor in routing the barbarians. For as you brought to naught the boasts of Lyaios, imparting courage to Nestor in the stadium, in like manner, holy one, great Martyr Demetrios, invoke Christ God for us, that He may grant us His great mercy.

Our Mother

If then God so clothes the grass, which today is in the field and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, how much more will He clothe you, O you of little faith? And do not seek what you should eat or what you should drink, nor have an anxious mind. For all these things the nations of the world seek after, and your Father knows that you need these things. But seek the kingdom of God, and all these things shall be added to you.

St Gabriel Urgebadze (Nov 2)

“The Signs of the Times are everywhere all around us, yet hardly anyone wants to see it. The end is soon approaching and anyone who has not found love will be swept away by the deluge. The door to the Ark is not yet shut, there is still mercy left for us.

We must take every moment left as an opportunity to move closer to Christ. Don’t waste time by unnecessarily obsessing and arguing with hard-headed people over the Signs and Times. Spend your time plowing the field so you can find the treasure...

In the end times a man will be saved by love, humbleness and kindness. Kindness will open the gates of Heaven; humbleness will lead him into Heaven; a man, whose heart is filled with love, will see God.”

"When you find Christ [in the heart], you are satisfied, you desire nothing else, you find peace. You become a different person. You live everywhere, wherever Christ is. You live in the stars, in infinity, in heaven with the angels, with the saints, on earth with people, with plants, with animals, with everyone and everything. When there is love for Christ, loneliness disappears. You are peaceable, joyous, full. Neither melancholy, not illness, nor pressure, nor anxiety, nor depression nor hell."

The Holy and Glorious Prophet Joel (Oct 19/ Nov 1) declared “the day of The Lord draws near” (Joel 1:15)
and called the people to turn back to God with all their hearts.

The Holy Prophet also foretold the coming of the Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost (Joel 2:28, and quoted by the Apostle Peter in Acts 2:17), and the saving power of the Name of our Lord Jesus Christ (Joel 2:32).

Joel also prophesied and described the Dread Judgment of God, and foretold the glory of God's Holy Church.

“… you saw things far off as if they were near. Therefore, we honor you, blessed and glorious Prophet Joel.”

Prayer for the Departed

O God of spirits and of all flesh, Who hast trampled down death and overthrown the Devil, and given life to Thy world, do Thou, the same Lord, give rest to the souls of Thy departed servants in a place of brightness, a place of refreshment, a place of repose, where all sickness, sighing, and sorrow have fled away. Pardon every transgression which they have committed, whether by word or deed or thought. For Thou art a good God and lovest mankind; because there is no man who lives yet does not sin, for Thou only art without sin, Thy righteousness is to all eternity, and Thy word is truth.

For Thou are the Resurrection, the Life, and the Repose of Thy servants who have fallen asleep, O Christ our God, and unto Thee we ascribe glory, together with Thy Father, who is from everlasting, and Thine all-holy, good, and life-creating Spirit, now and ever unto ages of ages. Amen.

Jose Muñoz, of blessed memory was born into family of devout Catholics. One day, while in his way to his Catholic church in Santiago, he passed the Russian Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity and was attracted by the wondrous singing. This was the beginning of his conversion to the Orthodox Faith. Once, a copy of the miracle-working Mother of God he was presented with as a gift began to stream myrrh. Brother Jose became a faithful guardian of the Icon, the Montreal Iveron icon, travelling with it over the world, praying unceasingly. Brother José was martyred on October 31, 1997 by enemies of God in Athens. He was 49 years old.

At Holy Trinity Monastery
Jordanville, NY, on
October 26, 2019, the
Feast Day of the “Moscow” Iveron Icon, a Panikhida was chanted at the grave of the Martyred Brother José.
During the service, the Wonderworking “Hawaiian” Iveron Icon began to profusely gush myrrh.

By the end of the 20 minute service, the covers on the analoy were completely soaked through and the fragrance of myrrh could be felt hundreds of meters away.

“People spend an unbelievable amount of money on psychotherapy, and these psychiatrists and psychologists do not free people from their passions. Few people today seek true healing...people do not notice that professional doctors cannot do for years what the Mother of God does at once if a person sincerely turns to Her.”

St John Kochurov (Oct 31) is considered the protomartyr of the Russian Revolution. At the time of his martyrdom by Bolsheviks, Fr. John had only recently returned to his homeland from America where he had ministered faithfully among poor Slavic immigrants and established numerous parishes and missions in the Chicago area. He also ministered to converts who came seeking the fullness of the apostolic Faith.

Serving at St. Catherine Cathedral in Tsarskoe Selo, just as the October Revolution was beginning, St John refused to stop leading public prayers for his people and their land. To make an example of him, the Bolsheviks publicly shot the beloved archpriest and dragged his body through town.

Holy Hieromartyr John of Chicago and Tsarskoe Selo, pray to God for us!

In 1981, two walkways collapsed at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Kansas City, killing 114 people and injuring many. It also caused a paralyzing back injury to a young Orthodox woman, who is now a nun at Exaltation of the Holy Cross Monastery, Thebes, Greece

"I remember that I was crushed - bent over with my face between my knees ... there were sixty tons [of concrete and debris] on top of me. My knees broke my ribs. ... Then, at some point, I spoke to my guardian angel: "Where are you?" I felt my right hand clasped, without pulling, and then I was out. I was lying on my back, totally free of the rubble. Someone I did not recognize was holding me and told me that I would be OK. No one remembers seeing this person." - Sister Aemiliane

“Holy Apostle, heal the wounds of our souls, and pray for our salvation!”

The holy Apostle and Evangelist Luke (Oct 18/ Oct 31) was a close companion of the Holy Apostle Paul on his missionary journeys and gave a doctor's help when Paul was beaten, stoned or nearly drowned.

A Gentile born in Antioch, the Holy Apostle is the writer of the third Gospel and the Acts of the Apostles. In it, he emphasizes Christ's compassion for sinners and for those who suffer.

Only in Luke's gospel are the stories told of the Annunciation of the Theotokos, her visit to Elizabeth, the Magnificat, the Presentation and Jesus' remaining in Jerusalem.

Only in Luke's gospel are the words spoken by the angel to Mary at the Annunciation recorded. "Hail Mary, full of grace." We also hear Elizabeth's words to Mary, "Blessed are you and blessed is the fruit of your womb, Jesus."
