ከረጅም ታሪክና የስልጣኔ ሂደት በኋላ አሁንም ድረስ ያልተለወጠውን የሴቶችን ለብዙ መራራ ጥቃት መጋለጥ በመቃወም በጋራ ሆነን ድምጻችንን እናሰማ!

On November 27, 2024, an impactful event titled "Ride or Die: Ending Violence Against Women in Ride Transport" took place, hosted by Article 35 in collaboration with the Col. John C. Robinson American Corner. This initiative was driven by the collective advocacy efforts of Addis #Powerhouse, #Article35, #Merahit, and committed feminist activists, all united in the mission to secure safe ride-hailing services as a fundamental right.
It served as a platform for strategizing future advocacy efforts and enhancing collaboration on this critical concern.
The esteemed panelists included:
1. Meron Deribe from Addis Powerhouse and former president of Merahit
2. Kalkidan Habtegebriel from Article 35
3. Yordanos Bezabih from Setaset Power
Together, they engaged in discussions that aimed to address and combat the challenges faced by women in ride transport, paving the way for safer and more equitable transportation solutions.

SIHA, a Pan-African feminist network centre in the Horn of Africa, brought together an incredible group of individuals to share experiences and learn about their important work. We asked women about their experience while using ride-hailing services!

These are some of the stories women shared with us from their personal experience while using a ride hailing transportation service in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Their stories ranged from receiving a sly sexualizing/ objectifying comment from the driver, to full on sexual harrasment and/ or attempted rape. Women are afraid to use these services, because of the danger they personally endured or someone close to them has. Despite using their offer of ‘safe transportation’ as a selling point on their platforms, little to no action is currently being taken by the companies to ensure women’s safety from sexual and gender based violence. Do you feel safe while using ride-hailing services in Addis Ababa? Your comments are important to our collective advocacy!
