BDU-Architecture Students Association Hosts Fresh Welcome Program

The Architecture Students Association at Bahir Dar University recently hosted a fresh welcome program to welcome new students to the department. The event was held at the Bahir Dar University Institute of Land Administration and Law School compound (Gish Abay Campus).

The program included a variety of activities, such as crafted art works, painting, and other works of student creativity. The students were also given the opportunity to learn more about the Architecture Department and the university.

The event was a great success, and the students enjoyed the opportunity to meet and interact with each other. The Architecture Students Association hopes to host more events like this in the future.

3ኛ. በሚያመለክቱበት አካዳሚክ ክፍልና ዘርፍ ያለውን ተጨባጭ ሁኔታ ባገናዘበ መልኩ የከፍተኛ ትምህርት ተደራሽነት፣ ፍትኃዊነት፣ጥራት፣ ተገቢነትና ዓለምአቀፋዊነትን ለማሳካት፣ አካዳሚክ ክፍሉን የልህቀት ማዕከል ለማድረግ፣ ተጨማሪ ሀብት ለማስገኘት፣ እንዲሁም ዓለማቀፋዊና አገራዊ ጉድኝቶችን ለመፍጠርና ቸማስፋት በሚደረገው ሂደት አስተዋጽኦ ለማበርከት የሚያስችል ስትራቴጂያዊ ዕቅድ ማዘጋጀትና ማብራሪ መስጠት የሚችል/ምትችል፤
4ኛ. የአካዳሚክ ክፍሉ ማህበረሰብ፣ የአካዳሚክ ኮሚሽኑ አባላት እንዲሁም የሚመለከታቸው ተጋብዘው በሚገኙበት መድረክ በአጀንዳዎች ላይ በአካል ተገኝቶ/ታ ማብራሪያና ገለጻ መስጠት የሚችል/ምትችል፤

This conference is technically sponsored by the IEEE African Council and will feature distinguished speakers from Europe and Africa. Representatives from government agencies, NGOs, private industry, and academic institutions will engage in scientific discussions on key conference themes. The event includes three special sessions, three keynote speeches, and 43 papers that will be presented in two parallel sessions.

We would like to kindly invite you to an Africa-UniNet webinar which will take place as part of the “OeAD Hochschultagung” webinars on 18 November 2024.
(Austria Vienna time: 2:00 - 3:00PM means
4:00 -5:00PM (10:00-11:00 local time) in Ethiopia.)

In this webinar we would like to showcase two Africa-UniNet projects as examples of successful collaborations between Austrian researchers and researchers from African partner countries:

Project P082: “Land Use and Land Cover Change Effects on Water Quality Characteristics of the Maziba Sub-Catchment, Western Uganda” as well as Project
P049: “Collaborative Monitoring for Sustainable Development of Lake Tana UNESCO Biosphere Reserve (Ethiopia)” which is among the first Africa-UniNet projects which completed their activities in 2023.

In this webinar the project coordinators/ team members will provide insights into their project activities, results and outcomes, personal experiences as well as the advantages of participating in the Austrian-African Research Network Africa-UniNet. After the project presentations there will be opportunity for Q&A to the presenters and Africa-UniNet office.

Training for students’ with disabilities delivered

Bahir Dar University, in collaboration with the EMPOWER project of the Ethiopian Center for Disability and Development, provided training to students with disability at the university.
Bahir Dar University Disability Support and Services Directorate Director and Ethiopian Center for Disability and Development (ECDD) Respondent at Bahir Dar Dr. Zelalem Temesgen said that, in accordance with the four-year agreement with universities in Ethiopia, training intended to enhance awareness about disability was given to the top and middle level management of the university. Apart from this, the director said, repeated technology supported trainings to the disabled in areas of reproduction, law and life skills had been given.
Dr. Zelalem indicated that the university has not yet been inclusive of the disabled either socially or in building construction. However, he said that their primary objective is to build a participatory and inclusive society for the disabled in the university by preparing documents and providing trainings.
He stated that the training was organized by a project called EMPOWER which is run by the National Association of University Students of Finland, EMPOWER, in agreement with the Ethiopian Center for Disability and Development (ECDD) in Bahir Dar University.
The Dr Zelalem further said three universities in Ethiopia, Jigjiga, Wolaita and Bahir Dar University are beneficiaries of the EMPOWER Project. Bahir Dar University has been providing training since last November. Campuses had been audited to identify which is convenient and which difficult. In today's event, Mr. Abiy Menkir gave training to third- to fifth-year students on job search skills and CV preparation, and Sister Mihret Getachew on her part focused on reproductive health to first-year students.

Bahir Dar University Partners with Safaricom for Talent Cloud Training

(Bahir Dar University, 14 November, 2024) Bahir Dar University (BDU) has embarked on a strategic partnership with Safaricom and JICA to empower students with cutting-edge digital skills through the Safaricom Talent Cloud online training program.

The initiative, launched at the Bahir Dar University Institute of Technology, Washera Hall, aims to equip students from all campuses and departments with in-demand skills such as project management, software engineering, digital marketing, and financial literacy.

Dr. Muluken Zegye, Deputy Scientific Director of BDU Institute of Technology, expressed optimism about the program's potential to enhance students' employability. "This training will not only help our students secure jobs after graduation but also empower them to become job creators and contribute to the nation's economic growth," he said.

Tibebe Solomon Admasu, President of the BDU Student Union, echoed this sentiment, highlighting the program's accessibility and practical relevance. "This free online training offers our students the opportunity to acquire industry-relevant skills at their own pace, from anywhere, and at any time," he stated. "It will help us bridge the gap between academia and industry, ensuring our graduates are well-prepared for the future workforce."

The program, delivered by Gebya Talent Cloud experts, offers a comprehensive curriculum that includes both in-person and online components. Students will have access to 37 industry-curated courses and over 6,000 international online courses, providing them with a diverse range of learning opportunities.

By partnering with Safaricom and JICA, BDU is taking significant steps to foster innovation, entrepreneurship, and digital literacy among its student body, positioning them as future leaders in Ethiopia's digital economy.
