The Goethe-Institut Äthiopien and the embassies of Austria, the Czech Republic, and Switzerland are pleased to invite you to the exhibition opening and publication of the graphic anthology Inspiration Kafka: Ethiopian Perspectives.

During the evening programme at the Goethe-Institut on Tuesday, 12. November 2024 starting 6 pm, the fascinating interpretations of Franz Kafka's short stories, created by ten talented young Ethiopian artists will be presented. These works are the result of a series of workshops on illustration and comics, led by renowned artist Nicolas Mahler. The body of work is a creative exploration of Kafka's literary legacy through contemporary Ethiopian lenses.

This public event marks the culmination of Kafka Year 2024, a year-long celebration of Kafka’s enduring influence on the global arts scene. We look forward to welcoming you to this special occasion.

Join us on 11 October at 6 pm, for the first film as part of Andreas Dresen film series, ‘Gundermann’ a story about the East German singer-songwriter and coal miner, exploring his life and music amidst the complexities of a changing society.

Gerhard Gundermann (1955-1998) was an excavator driver in open-cast lignite mining, a Stasi informer, but above all a gifted singer-songwriter with a fan base in the GDR and in post-reunification Germany. Director Andreas Dresen dedicates himself to this contradictory personality in a sensitive biographical narrative, a modern musical homeland film for both East and West Germany.

The Art School Alliance is an international exchange program launched in 2010 by the University of Fine Arts Hamburg with the goal of intensifying links and exchange between famous art institutions, art students and young artists all over the world. Today it fosters encounter and exchange for more than 40 students and lecturers per year, living and working at the Art School Alliance’s Residency in Hamburg or at the partner institutions abroad.
