Social media has been flooded with video footage showing a group of armed men speaking the Rakhine language, some of whom are wearing uniforms that appear to belong to the Arakan Army (AA).

The video’s content is deeply disturbing and graphic.

It shows prisoners, believed to be soldiers of the Myanmar military, being slaughtered and buried alive.

Consider the horrors faced by the Rohingya. In 2024 alone, the AA killed at least 2,500 Rohingya in Buthidaung and Maungdaw Townships.

Rohingya refugees who recently fled to Bangladesh have recounted harrowing experiences of bombings, killings, and forced conscription by the Arakan Army (AA).

A 50-year-old Rohingya woman stated, "I saw countless dead bodies." She further shared that the AA fighters stormed her house and took everything she owned.

Another refugee, a Rohingya man, revealed, "The Arakan Army arrived and took young Rohingya men from the villages."

174 Rohingya Killed in a Boat Capsize

Due to the unbearable persecution of the Rohingya by the Arakan Army (AA), many Rohingya from Buthidaung are fleeing in an attempt to reach Malaysia. It is no secret that the Arakan Army (AA) facilitates human trafficking, as they seem pleased when the Rohingya are forced to flee.

A boat carrying 180 Rohingya from Thamee Hla village in Buthidaung capsized off the coast near Hai Gyi Island in the Ayeyarwaddy Region on November 10, 2024. The group had departed from Buthidaung on November 1, 2024.

Out of the 180 passengers, 174 Rohingya died, leaving only 6 survivors (4 men and 2 women). The survivors were rescued by a foreign ship, handed over to the Myanmar Navy, and then transferred to a police station before being admitted to a hospital.

Saya U Hla Aung, the headmaster of the Post Primary School and a teacher who had been teaching Myanmar language to high school students for almost two decades, was abducted by the Arakan Army on October 22 from Ward 5 in Buthidaung, without any apparent reason. More than just an educator, he is a guiding light, a mentor, and a figure of wisdom and warmth in the lives of many. His abduction has left the community broken and devastated.

The Arakan Army has increasingly targeted educated individuals, seemingly as a tactic to weaken the community by instilling fear and despair. Once someone is taken, it becomes nearly impossible to obtain any information about their well-being.

Reports also indicate that several other individuals were abducted yesterday.

Breaking: Arakan Army Collects 1.4 Million Kyats Monthly Taxes from Phone Nyo Lake Residents

The situation of Buthidaung, especially in Ward No. 5, Buthidaung, Phone Nyo Lake and nearby villages, remains the same.

People are starving, with no food and no medical treatment available, even for serious illnesses. Even one Paracetamol tablet costs 1,500 Kyats.

The Arakan Army collects monthly taxes from Phone Nyo Lake, ranging from 5,000 to 10,000 Kyats per household, with poor families paying less than 5,000 Kyats. Additionally, they require monthly military service and daily labor from the residents for the Arakan Army.

According to reports, the Arakan Army collects 1.4 million Kyats in taxes from Phone Nyo Lake each month, and this amount continues to be collected every month.
