EiTEX Organized an Alumni Podium!

Fiker Tesfu, Endegena Eshet & Mastewal Alemu who were former graduates of Textile Engineering & fashion design at BDU had shared their successful experiences as consultants & researchers; company CEO & owners & international fashion designing achievements.

Professor Tamirat Tesfaye, scientific director of the institute, had opened the podium paying gratitude for the alumni who came to share their real life experiences in the industry.

He indicated that the apparel sector has a 1.79 trillion dollar global market share offering job opportunities for 400 million people.The sector had contributed about 47% of the hard currency the country generated from the manufacturing sector in 2022. He added that the country has a vast market opportunity of 120+ million people for the apparel sector. Besides, if the import substitution policy of the country is fully realized, it will expand job opportunities & expansion of the garment industry which will replace 53% of the second hand garment ("bonda" clothes) imported thereby increasing demand for EiTEX graduates.

Ato Fiker who is a manager of Vestis Garment Production PLC, tried to show students the global volatility of the apparel market affected by geopolitical factors & a need for speed fast policy response to it. As an example, encouraging companies to produce for local & regional markets is helping to withstand AGOA restrictions & potential tarrif setbacks. He also emphasized the importance of widening networking opportunities for EiTEX to have policy level impacts. Finally, he tried to show stages in which entrepreneurial projects success can be guaranteed.

Mr.Endegena Eshete, founder & CEO of Spark Apparel PLC., advised students that their university years are important periods when their future companies will be crafted. Hence, students are needed to utilize their resourceful workshops & laboratories to develop their all rounded competences.

Mastewal Alemu who was able to present her fashion designs in Milan fashion weeks & appeared on the prestigious Vogue magazine advised students to engage in self-exploration excercises & figuring-out their life long professional roles beyond scoring outstanding grades. Besides, she requested students to experiment with various fabrics, beyond the traditional ones, in their fashion designing excercises.

Dr.Medhanit Belachew, ISC director for EiTEX institute, finally closed the stage offering gratitude to the presenters & the attendees reminding such podiums will continue in the future.

ታህሳስ 26/2017 ዓ.ም (ባሕር ዳር ዩኒቨርሲቲ) ባሕር ዳር ዩኒቨርሲቲ ከባህልና ስፖርት ሚኒስቴር ጋር በመተባበር “የሃገር በቀል ዕውቀት ምንጭ ማዕከላቶቻችን ለዘላቂ ባሕል ልማት” በሚል መሪ-ቃል አውደ ጥናት በፔዳ ግቢ ተካሂዷል፡፡
በመድረኩ ላይ ተገኝተው መልዕክት ያስተላለፉት በባሕር ዳር ዩኒቨርሲቲ የሂውማኒቲ ፋኩሊቲ ዲን ዶ/ር ዋልተንጉስ መኮንን እንደገለጹት ጉባኤው የሀገር በቀል እውቀት ለሀገራዊ እድገት የሚያበረክቱትን ወሳኝ ሚና አጉልቶ ለማሳየትና የተቋማት የትኩረት ነጥብ ለማድረግ በመፈለግና ቅንጅታዊ አሰራርን ለመመስረት በማለም ነው ተካሂዷል ብለዋል፡፡
በተጨማሪም ሀገር በቀል እውቀቶችን ከሀገራዊ የእድገት ስትራቴጅዎች ጋር በማዋሃድ ማህበረሰቦች ዘላቂ ልምዶቻቸውን ሳይንሳዊ ከሆነው አስተሳሰብ ጋር በማዋሃድ መጠቀም እንዲችሉ ለማበረታታት መሆኑን ተናግረዋል፡፡
የሃገር በቀል ዕውቀት ምንጭ ማዕከላቶች ያሉንን ሃብቶች ከመሰነድና እውቀቱን ለትውልድ ከማሻገር በተጨማሪ ለምርምርና ለፈጠራ ማእከል በመሆን የሚያገለግሉ ሲሆን አንገብጋቢ የሆኑ አለማቀፋዊ ጉዳዮችን ለመፍታት ሀገር በቀል እውቀቶች ጠቀሜታቸው ከፍተኛ ነው ብለዋል ዶ/ር ዋልታንጉስ፡፡
ዶ/ር ዋልታንጉስ መኮንን አክለውም ሀገር በቀል እውቀቶች በአገሬው ተወላጅ ማህበረሰቦችና በተፈጥሮ መካከል ያለውን የተወሳሰበ ግንኙነት የሚያንጸባርቁ ሲሆን በሰዎች እንቅስቃሴ፤ በጤናና በስነ-ምህዳር መካከል ያለውን ሚዛን በመጠበቅም ለረዥም ጊዜ ያገለገሉ መሆኑን ገልጸዋል፡፡
ኢትዮጵያ ውስጥ ያሉ የከፍተኛ ትምህርት ተቋማት ሀገር በቀል እውቀትን ወደ ዘላቂ የልማት ማእቀፎች በማቀናጀት ወሳኝ ሚና ይጫወታሉ፡፡ የሀገር በቀል አመለካከቶችን በስርዓተ ትምህርትና በምርምር አጀንዳዎች ውስጥ በማካተት ዩኒቨርሲቲዎች ከባህል ጋር ተዛማጅነት ያላቸውን የአካባቢ ተግዳሮቶችን የሚፈታ ትምህርት ማስተዋወቅ እንደሚችሉ ገልጸዋል፡፡
ሀገር በቀል እውቀት ሰፊ ቢሆንም ባሕር ዳር ዩኒቨርሲቲ የልህቀት ማእከል አደርጋቸዋለሁ ብሎ ከያዛቸው ዘርፎች መካከል ትምህርትና ህክምና በመሆናቸው በነዚህ ዘርፎች ላይ ትኩረት አድርገን ለመስራት በመንቀሳቀስ ላይ እንገኛለን ብለዋል ዶ/ር ዋልታንጉስ መኮንን፡፡
በባህልና ስፖርት ሚኒስቴር የባህል እሴቶችና ሀገር በቀል እውቀቶች መሪ ስራ አስፈጻሚ ወ/ሮ እስከዳር ግሩም በበኩላቸው ኢትዮጵያ በረጅም የታሪክ ድርሳኗ የከተበቻቸው ዘመናትን ያስቆጠሩ ባህላዊ የእውቀት ማዕከላትና ተቋማት ያሏት ታሪካዊ ሃገር መሆኗን ገልጸው ተቋማቱ በኢትዮጵያ ታሪክ ውስጥ የእውቀት፤ የፍልስፍና እና የጥበብ እንዲሁም የምርምር ጥናት ማእከል ሆነው በርካታ ሊቃውንትን አፍርተዋል ብለዋል፡፡
ሀገራችን ኢትዮጵያ ከብዙ ክፍለ ዘመናት በፊት የገነባቻቸው አገር በቀል የእውቀት ማእከላትና ተቋማት በየዘርፎቹ የሚኖራቸው ሚና የጎላና ከፍተኛ ቢሆንም በእጅ የያዙት ወርቅ ከመዳብ ይቆጠራል እንዲሉ አበው ሀብቶቻችን በወጉ ሳንጠቀምባቸው ለውስብስብ ችግሮች እየተዳረግን እንገኛለን ብለዋል ወ/ሮ እስከዳር ግሩም፡፡

በመድረኩ ላይ ተገኝተው የመክፈቻ ንግግር ያደረጉት በአማራ ብሄራዊ ክልላዊ መንግስት የባህልና ቱሪዝም ቢሮ ም/ኃላፊ ዶ/ር አየለ አናውጤ የሀገር በቀል እውቀት ምንጭ ማእከላት ያላቸውን ሙሉ አቅም ለሀገራዊ ልማት በማዋል ረገድ አስተዋጾ አላቸው፡፡ ስለሆነም ሃገር በቀል እውቀቶችን ከልማት አጀንዳዎች ጋር በማዋሃድ ለባህል ደጋፊና ለአካባቢ ተስማሚ ለሆነ ዘላቂ እድገት አስተዋጾ ማድረግ እንዲያስችሉ አድርጎ ማስተሳሰር እና ጥቅም ላይ ማዋል ያስፈልጋል ብለዋል፡፡

በመድረኩ ሁለት ጥናታዊ ጽሁፎች የቀረቡ ሲሆን በዶ/ር ማረው ዓለሙ፤ የድጓ ማስመስከር ትምህርት ስነ ትምህርታዊ ፋይዳ በቅድስት ቤተልሔም የሚል ገላጭ ጥናት እና በዶ/ር ተመስገን በየነ፤ የባህል ህክምና ዕውቀት ሥርዓትና ተግባር አውዳዊ ትንተና በደቡብ ጎንደር ዞን በሚሉ ርእሶች ላይ ጥናታዊ ጽሁፎች ቀርበው ከታዳሚው ሰፋ ያሉ ጥያቄዎችና አስተያየቶች ቀርበው ውይይት ተደርጎባቸው በጽሁፍ አቅራቢዎች ማብራሪያና ምላሽ ተሰጥቶባቸው መድረኩ ተጠናቋል፡፡

Bahir Dar University and University of Sinnar Sign Memorandum of Understanding

In a significant move to foster academic excellence and innovation, Bahir Dar University (BDU), Ethiopia, and the University of Sinnar (UoS), Sudan, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) today. The agreement, signed by Dr. Mengesha Ayene, President of BDU, and Prof. Abderrhman Ahmed Mohammed Ismeil, Vice Chancellor of UoS, establishes a framework for robust collaboration between the two institutions.

Among other things, the partnership will focus on joint research projects, organizing training courses, conferences, and workshops to enhance staff and student capacity, developing innovative teaching methods, curricula, and course designs, and facilitating staff and student exchanges between the two universities. Both institutions expressed their strong commitment to turning this agreement into actionable initiatives, signaling a shared vision for long-term collaboration.

The event marked the culmination of a productive visit by the University of Sinnar delegation, which included Prof. Abderrhman Ahmed Mohammed Ismeil, Vice Chancellor, Dr. Ammar Abdella Ahmed Suleiman, Secretary of Academic Affairs, and Dr. Hysum Ibrahim Mohammed Muhmode, Director of International Relations, University of Gezira.

ለዩኒቨርሲቲው መምህራን የእንግሊዝኛ ቋንቋ ፈተና ስርአት ስልጠና ተሰጠ

ከዩኒቨርሲቲው የተለያዩ የአካዳሚክ ክፍሎች ለተውጣጡ መምህራን የዓለም አቀፍ የእንግሊዝኛ ቋንቋ ፈተና ስርአት (International English Language Tasting System /IELTS/) ስልጠና በፖሊ ግቢ ከህዳር 20 እስከ 24/03/17 ዓ.ም ለ5 ተከታታይ ቀናት እየተሰጠ ነው፡፡
ስልጠናውን ያዘጋጀው የዩኒቨርሲቲው የስልጠና ዳይሬክቶሬት ሲሆን ዳይሬክተሩ አቶ ወርቁ አበበ ስልጠናውን የሚሰጡት ለሙያው ቅርብ የሆነ የዩኒቨርሲቲያችን ምሁራን መሆናቸውን ገልጸው የስልጠናው ፋይዳ የጎላ ስለሆነ ሁሉም ሰልጣኝ ትኩረት ሰጥቶ በንቃት እንዲከታተል  አሳስበዋል፡፡
በስልጠናው ላይ ያገኘናቸው የዩኒቨርሲቲው የ IELTS አስተባባሪና አሰልጣኝ ዶ/ር አማረ ተስፌ የስልጠናው ዓላማ የመምህራንን የእንግሊዘኛ ቋንቋ ችሎታ ለማዳበርና መማር ማስተማሩን ለማዘመን እንዲሁም ደረጃቸውን የጠበቁ ፈተናዎችን አዘጋጅተው ተማሪዎችን በአግባቡ ለመመዘን ታልሞ የተዘጋጀ መሆኑን አስገንዝበዋል፡፡
ዶ/ር አማረ በማስከተል ስልጠናውን የወሰዱ መምህራን መማር ማስተማሩን ከማዘመን ባሻገር የውጭ እድል በሚያገኙበት ወቅት የ IELTS ፈተና በቀላሉ ወስደው ውጤታማ እንደሚሆኑ በተጨማሪም ፈተናውን ለመውሰድ የሚፈልግ በርካታ ሰው ስላለ ከዩኒቨርሲቲው ማህበረሰብ ውጭ ለአካባቢው ኗሪ ፈተናውን በመስጠት ከፍተኛ አስተዋፅኦ ማበርከት እንደሚቻል ገልፀዋል፡፡

በጦርነት የተጎዱ የግዕዝ የብራና መዛግብት መልሶ ጥገናና ጥበቃ ላይ ትኩረት ያደረገ አውደጥናት ተካሄደ
ሕዳር 21/2017 ዓ.ም (ባሕር ዳር ዩኒቨርሲቲ) የባሕር ዳር ዩኒቨርሲቲ ከ British Council Cultural Protection Fund and UK Department for culture, Media and sport ፕሮጀክት ጋር በመተባበር በሰሜን ጎንደር እና በሰሜንና በደቡብ ወሎ ዞኖች በጦርነቱ የተጎዱ የግዕዝ የብራና መዛግብት መልሶ ጥገናና ጥበቃ በሚል ርዕስ በዋናው ግቢ በድሮው የሴኔት አዳራሽ የሁለት ቀን የምክክር ጉባኤ አካሂዷል፡፡
በአውደጥናቱ መክፈቻ ላይ የእናኳን ደህና መጣችሁ መልክት ያስተላለፉት በባሕር ዳር ዩኒቨርሲቲ የሂውማኒቲ ፋኩልቲ ዲን ዶ/ር ዋልተንጉስ መኮነን በበኩላቸው ሰሜን ኢትዮጵያ የሃገራችን ጥንታዊ ታሪክ እና ባህላዊ ማንነት ማከማቻ እና ማዕከላዊ ቦታ ከመሆኑም ባሻገር ከሺህ ዓመታት በፊት የነበሩ ጥንታዊ ገዳማት ፣ አብያተ ክርስቲያናት፣ መስጊዶች፣ ህንፃዎች እና የአርኪዎሎጂ ቦታዎችን ጨምሮ የበርካታ ታሪካዊ ምልክቶች ባለቤት መሆኑን ተናግረዋል፡፡ እነዚህ ቦታዎች የኢትዮጵያ ታሪካዎዊ የትረካ ማዕከላዊ ቦታዎች ከመሆንም አልፈው ለቀደሙት ስልጣኔዎቿ እና ሃይማኖታዊ ባህሎቿ እና ምሁራዊ ስኬቶችም ምስክር መሆናቸውን ገልፀዋል፡፡ እንደ ዶ/ር ዋልተንጉስ ገለፃ የኢትዮጵያ ኦርቶዶክስ ተዋሕዶ ቤተክርስቲያን የቅዳሴ ቋንቋ ሆኖ እያገለገለ ባለው በጥንታዊ ሴማዊ ቋንቋ የተፃፉት መዛግብት ሃይማኖታዊ ጹኁፎችን፣ ታሪካዊ ማስረጃዎችን፣ የህግ ሰነዶችን፣ የፍልስፍና መፅሃፍትንና የሥነ ጹሁፍ ስራዎችን በጦርነትም ሆነ በእርስ በርስ አለመግበባት ለውድመት መዳረጋቸውን ገልፀው ከግጭት የተረፉትን የባሕል ቁሳቁሶች ሰነዶችን፤ እድሳት እና ዲጂታል ለማድረግ የሀገር ውስጥ ባለስልጣናት ፣ አለማቀፍ ድርጅቶች እና የአካዳሚክ ተቋማት የተቀናጀ ስራ በእጅጉ አስፈላጊ መሆኑን ተናግረዋል፡፡
በአውደ ጥናቱ ላይ የባሕር ዳር ዩኒቨርሲቲ የምርምር እና ማህበረሰብ አሳታፊ ም/ፕሬዚዳንት ፐሮፌሰር እንየው አድጎ በበኩላቸው የግዕዝ መዛግብት ለኛ ለኢትዮጵያ ህዝቦች ታሪካችን፣ ቅርሳችን እና የዕውቀት ምንጫችን ነው ያሉት ፕሮፌሰሩ እነዚህን ዘመን ተሸጋሪ የግዕዝ መዛግብቶች ለሚቀጥለው ትውልድ እንዲተላለፉ ለማድረግ ፕሮጀክቶችን በማፈላለግ የዲጂታላይዝ ስራዎችን በመስራት ቅርሶች በጦርነት ውድመትም ሆነ ከእሳት ቃጠሎ ተጠብቀው ለትውልድ መተላለፍ እንዳለባቸው ተናግረዋል፡፡ ለዚህ ሀገራዊ በጎ አላማ የባሕር ዳር ዩኒቨርሲቲ ከማማከር እና ምርምሮችን ከመስራት ባለፈ በግዕዝ መዛግብቶች ላይ በተግባር ለሚሰሩ ስራዎች ፕሮጄክቶችን በማፈላለግ ከገንዘብ ድጋፍ ጀምሮ የሚችለውን እንደሚያደርግ ፕሮፌሰር እንየው ተናግረዋ፡፡

በአውደጥናቱ ላይ የግዕዝ መዛግብት እና ድርሳናትን መሰረት አድርገው የተሰሩ ከአስር በላይ ጥናታዊ ጹሁፎች ቀርበው በአውደጥናቱ ተሳታፊዎች ውይይት ተደርጎባቸዋል፡፡

A workshop on restoration and conservation of Ge’ez manuscripts in war-affected
Areas of the region held
November 11/2017 (Bahir Dar University) Bahir Dar University in collaboration with the British Council Cultural Protection Fund and UK Department for culture, Media and sport held a two day conference focusing on restoration and conservation of Ge’ez manuscripts affected by the war in North Gondar and North and South Wollo zonal districts at old senate hall, Peda campus of Bahir Dar University.

In his opening speech, Dr. Waltengus Mekonen, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities of Bahir Dar University, said that the Northern Ethiopia is a repository and central place of our country's ancient history and cultural identity. He said it is also a place of many historical landmarks, including ancient monasteries, churches, mosques, buildings and archaeological sites dating back thousands of years. These places are not only the central places of Ethiopia's historical narrative, but also a testimony to its ancient civilizations and religious traditions and intellectual achievements. According to Dr. Waltengus, the records written in the ancient Semitic language, ‘the Ge’ze’, a language that has been in use as the liturgical language of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church, include religious books, historical evidence, legal documents, philosophical books and literary works that were destroyed by war and civil strife. He said that coordinated effort of local authorities, international organizations and academic institutions is vital for the renovation and digitization of those resources that survived the conflicts.

While officially opening the conference, Prof. Enyew Adego, Vice President for Research and Community Engagement at BDU remarked that Geez records are a source of history, heritage and knowledge for the people of Ethiopia. The V/president said that by digitizing these highly valued national resources, it is possible to protect them from destruction by fire or war and pass on to the next generation. The professor promised that Bahir Dar University will do everything in its power to support all practical endeavours focusing on Ge’ez records, starting with providing financial support to finding partners that support such causes financially or otherwise.

The coordinator of the project, Dr. Belayneh Taye, gave the project highlight. In his speech, he said that the project was kicked off in 2022 in connection with the destruction of many churches and Geez writings in the recent northern war. Among the works that the project will do is to select churches and manuscript records that were damaged during the war in the north and to carry out renovation works, to transfer knowledge and skills of portraits on parchment, paintings, and the ancient art of parchment to the next generation. He added the project also intends to train community members who would like to create job based on the ancient knowledge and art obtained from Geez archives in the tourism sector or at an individual level. Dr. Belayneh said that the project primarily aims to benefit the community. He added as other phases of the project like training of personnel as to make use of knowledge from the manuscripts and the digitization are yet to be done in no time, manual preparation is already completed.

At the workshop, more than ten research papers under the theme of restoration and conservation of Ge’ez manuscripts have been presented and very warm discussion was held in the Q/A session.
In the conference, religious leaders from Bahir Dar Diocese and various parishes and monasteries, researchers from Addis Ababa University, Bahir Dar University, Wollo University, Debretabor University, Semera University, Heritage Protection Authority and students have participated.

Veterans Memory!

Zenebe Tadesse (PhD) is a lead researcher at the National Fisheries and Aquatic Life Research Center in Ethiopia.He was among the founding instructors of department of biology at BDTC (Peda) along with Saba Abera and Birhanu Erko (Professor). He was also its first department head and head of continuing education program following Gash Abay Tekle. In this video, Dr.Zenebe discussed in-depth about the academic and social aura of Peda during his 17 years of tenura at the college. His discussion begins with indicating how programs of Biology and Chemistry (STTP) were shifted to Peda from the then Alemaya College of Agriculture while an agricultural program replaced its space moving from Veterinary Science faculty at Debre-Zeit. He was happy when remembering how Demissie Manahilot (PhD), dean, strengthened the new departments through encouraging novice instructors to develop teaching materials offering them academic promotions.

He fondly remembered the family like tie existing among the college's staff.He supported this, taking his own experience of serving as best man to three colleagues who were from other departments. Besides, he mentioned sport tournaments role where the college's academic and admin staffs participated in events organized by the city which involved PTI and high schools too. Annual inter-collegiate tournaments hosted with Gondar College of Medical Sciences together with field excursions and get together parties also played their part in harmonizing staff cohesion.
Remembering early days of his life at Bahir Dar, Dr.Zenebe recollected the periods when quality food is served for mere120 birr/month by restaurants and bike was the predominant mode of public transportation.

Visiting Peda and BDU after many years, Dr.Zenebe felt ecstasy and pride with the massive growth and expansion marked in BDU'S student and staff size; program diversity and academic units; campuses and scenery. In his final remarks, Dr.Zenebe provided his special gratitude to BDU which helped him grow academically from B.A to PhD levels and reaching to the highest level in his research career. He particularly recognized Dr.Demissie Manahilot's modeling role and legacy at BDTC. He finally expressed his conviction that BDU will be among the top 5 research universities in Africa during its 75th year anniversary and recommended its research university path to be tied to community development orientation.

Training on Classroom Assessment

A two days long training on classroom assessment techniques and procedures was offered to instructors from various academic units in Zenzelima, Yibab, Tibebe Ghion, CoBE, EiTEX & BiT campuses of BDU.The training was organized by the university's Testing Center and offered by staffs from Psychology department. It primarily focused on introducing various principles and ethics of assessment; developing instructional objectives and aligning assessment with it; planning classroom assessment and preparing improved test items; test assembling and administration process. Expressing their satisfaction with the relevance of the training, the trainees demanded further tailor made trainings on field specific assessment approaches like performance assessment and instructional strategies.

Training on ​​entrepreneurship and skills development provided

Bahir Dar University, in collaboration with Amhara Regional Entrepreneurship Development Institute coordination office, is offering a two-day training on entrepreneurship and motivation starting November 21. Mr. Yibeltal Elias, the coordinator of the coordination office of the Entrepreneurship Development Institute of the Amhara Region, said that the training is prepared by the Public Entrepreneurship and Innovation Ecosystem Building (PEIEB). 
The training focuses on evaluating if the undertakings of the institute were innovative, if what was being done was adding value, if the objectives of the Institute were brought to an end. Moreover by assessing their effectiveness, the training was believed to help the top management analyze if they met their objectives.    

Mr. Yibeltal indicated that most of the trainees are middle level managers. As a result of the training, the trainees would take the assignment of improving their work efficiency and in an effort to satisfy their customers.

Describing that  the training is conducted in observance of the international entrepreneurship week, entrepreneurship and skills development training were being given across the country where three universities namely, Bahir Dar, Wollo and Woldia were the participants from Amhara Regional State.

Training for students’ with disability offered
Bahir Dar University, in collaboration with the EMPOWER project of the Ethiopian Center for Disability and Development, provided training to students with disability at the university.
Bahir Dar University Disability Support and Services Directorate Director and Ethiopian Center for Disability and Development (ECDD) Respondent at Bahir Dar Dr. Zelalem Temesgen said that, in accordance with the four-year agreement with universities in Ethiopia, training intended to enhance awareness about disability was given to the top and middle level management of the university. Apart from this, the director said, repeated technology supported trainings to the disabled in areas of reproduction, law and life skills had been given.
Dr. Zelalem indicated that the university has not yet been inclusive of the disabled either socially or in building construction. However, he said that their primary objective is to build a participatory and inclusive society for the disabled in the university by preparing documents and providing trainings.
He stated that the training was organized by a project called EMPOWER which is run by the National Association of University Students of Finland, EMPOWER, in agreement with the Ethiopian Center for Disability and Development (ECDD) in Bahir Dar University.
The Dr Zelalem further said three universities in Ethiopia, Jigjiga, Wolaita and Bahir Dar University are beneficiaries of the EMPOWER Project. Bahir Dar University has been providing training since last November. Campuses had been audited to identify which is convenient and which difficult. In today's event, Mr. Abiy Menkir gave training to third- to fifth-year students on job search skills and CV preparation, and Sister Mihret Getachew on her part focused on reproductive health to first-year students.

Ethiopian English Language Professionals Association (EELPA) - Bahir Dar branch inaugural ceremony held.
 
(November 9/2017, Bahir Dar University) The Ethiopian English Language Professionals Association (EELPA) held its EELPA Bahir Dar branch establishment workshop at the Old Senate Hall, Peda Campus, Bahir Dar University.
 
At the inaugural program, the President of the Ethiopian English Language Professionals Association (EELPA), Mr. Yosef Feleke, recounted some of the major
Works EELPA has done mainly through facilitating continuous English language improvement schemes for teachers. In his virtual address, Mr. Yoseph said that although the association was active for over 20 years, it has become a legally recognized association for 13 years now. According to the president, the Ethiopian English Language Professionals Association (EELPA) opened its first branch in Dire Dawa, the second branch in the South at Arba Minch, and today, the EELPA opened its third branch in Bahir Dar.
 
Dr. Tesfamikael Getu, V/president elect of EELPA from Bahir Dar University explained the purpose of the Ethiopian English Language. Dr Tesfamichael said that EELPA aims to support English language teachers through continuous English Language Improvement professional trainings to help them become qualified English language practitioners and researchers.
 
At the inaugural program, Dr. Gena Rhoades, RELO East Africa at the US Embassy virtually delivered a keynote speech on the title BUILDING LEADERS THROUGH ENGLISH. In her speech, Dr. Rhoades mentioned about the services they can get through the embassy. Also, the former president of the association, Dr. Aymen Elsheikh, made a keynote speech on TOPIC: TEACHER ASSOCIATIONS THROUGH THE LENS OF COMMUNITIES OF PRACTICE. A teacher and researcher from Bahr Dar University, Prof. Abiy Yigzaw also delivered a keynote message on the topic IMPROVING ELT TOGETHER: THE POWER OF COLLABORATION FOR QUALITY EDUCATION.
 
Finally, at the inaguration program, Dr. Amare Tesfie, a language teacher at Bahir Dar University, was elected as the president of EELPA Bahir Dar branch along with other eight members having different roles. The meeting was closed with a virtual certificate award ceremony by the president of EELPA to all who participated in realizing the inauguration of EELPA Bahir Dar Chapter and the speakers at the event. 

Alumni Stories: Academy of Presidents?!!

BDU have had 6 Presidents since PTI (BiT-BDU) and Peda (BDTC) merged together 25 years ago. 3 of its 6 presidents, Tsehaye Jemberu (PhD), Ambassador Yeshimebrat Mersha (PhD) and Mengesha Ayene (PhD) received their bachelor degrees from Peda (BDTC).

The first two got their degrees with Pedagogical Sciences in 1975 E.C and 1984 E.C respectively whereas the later graduated in 1994 E.C. with B.Ed. in Physics.

Ambassador Dr.Yeshimebrat was actually the first female university president in the country's history.

Astoundingly, in 2015 E.C. while BDU was celebrating its Diamond Jubilee about 25% (10) of Ethiopian public universities presidents were graduates of Peda (9) and Poly (1). 12ኛው የEAI አለም አቀፍ የሳይንስ እና ቴክኖሎጂ እድገት ኮንፈረንስ (ICAST 2024) ተካሄደ

ጥቅምት 24/2017 ዓ.ም (ባሕር ዳር ዩኒቨርሲቲ) 12ኛው አለም አቀፍ የሳይንስ እና ቴክኖሎጂ እድገቶች (ICAST 2024) ኮንፈረንስ በባሕር ዳር ዩኒቨርሲቲ የቴክኖሎጂ ኢንስቲትዩት ግቢ በዋሸራ የመሰብሰቢያ አዳራሽ የክልሉ የሳይንስና ቴክኖሎጂ ኮሚሽነሩን ጨምሮ የዩኒቨርሲቲው ከፍተኛ አመራሮች በተገኙበት ከጥቅምት 22-24/2017ዓ.ም ለሦስት ተከታታይ ቀናት በሳይንስ እና ቴክኖሎጂ እድገት ላይ ትኩረቱን በማድረግ አካሂዷል፡፡

የባሕር ዳር ዩኒቨርሲቲ የቴክኖሎጂ ኢንስቲትዩት ምክትል ሳይንቲፊክ ዳይሬክተር የሆኑት ዶ/ር ምትኩ ዳምጤ በበኩላቸው ተቋሙ ባለፉት አስራ አንድ ተከታታይ ዓመታት በተደረጉ አውደጥናቶች የተለያዩ ችግር ፈቺ ምርምሮች፣ ለማህበረሰቡ እና ለኢንዱስትሪው ዘርፍ የሚጠቅሙ  አዳዲስ ቴክኖሎጂዎችን በማውጣት ወደ ገበያ መቅረባቸውን ተከትሎ  ለተቋሙ ተመራቂ ተማሪዎች አዳዲስ የስራ እድል መፍጠሩን ተናግረዋል፡፡ 
በአውደጥናቱ ላይ ፐሮፌሰር ደስታ መብራቱ እና ፐሮፌሰር ማሞ ሙጨ ከደቡብ አፍሪካ በዙም ገብተው ለአፍሪካ ፍትሃዊ እና ዘላቂ ልማት ስልታዊ ለውጦች እና እንደገና ማሰብ እንዲሁም  እንደገና መንደፍ ፣ ቴክኖሎጂ ፣ ምህንድስና እና ሂሳብ ለዘላቂ ልማት ለሁሉም የሰው ልጅ ለአንድ የዓለም ማህበረሰብ  በሚል ርዕስ ቁልፍ መልክት ለአውደጥናቱ ተሳታፊዎች አስተላልፈዋል፡፡

Blue Nile Club/ "ጥቁር አባይ ክበብ"/

Recently, I was able to find a metal plate dropped around Peda's water tower with a script "Blue Nile Club/ጥቁር አባይ ክበብ". Interviewing veteran staff and consulting documents of 1970s witnessed the names of various sport teams of Bahir Dar Academy of Pedagogy from 1970-1973 E.C. In those years, the club had won 5 trophies competing at provincial and "awraja" levels in basketball, athletics and football. In 1974 E.C, its name changed to Bahir Dar Teachers College (BDTC) sport club.The footballers picture attached was taken in 1972 E.C. It comprises of TTI, diploma and degree program students of the Academy. The player standing at far left from the camera is Demissie Zergaw (PhD) who was the gold medalist student of class of 1974 E.C and later became staff of BDTC & AAU.

Club BDTC had played friendly games for 32 consecutive years against Gondar College of Health and Medical Sciences.

Former instructors of Physical Education Department like Negaliku Afework and Wondimu Tadesse (AAU Staff and MP) had played a great part in organizing and strengthening the club in its formative years.

BDU has to revamp its former contributions in supporting at least the city's and region's sport sector development and strengthening its links with other academic institutions.

ጥቅምት 16/2017 ዓ.ም (ባሕር ዳር ዩኒቨርሲቲ)፤ በባሕር ዳር ዩኒቨርሲቲ የአጠቃላይ ጥራት አስተዳደር ዳይሬክቶሬት አዘጋጅነት የዩኒቨርሲቲው መምህራንና ሰራተኞችን ያሳተፈ አውደ ጥናት በዩኒቨርሲቲው ጥበብ አዳራሽ ተካሂዷል፡፡

መድረኩን በእንኳን ደህና መጣችሁ ንግግር ያስጀመሩት የዩኒቨርሲቲው የአጠቃላይ ጥራት አስተዳደር ዳይሬክቶሬት ተቀዳሚ ዳይሬክተር ዶ/ር አንዳርጋቸው ሞገስ የጥራት ጉዳይ እንደ ከፍተኛ የትምህርት ተቋም የመምህሩ፤ የተማሪውና የሰራተኛው የሁሉም የጋራ ጉዳይ መሆኑን ተናግረዋል።

በአውደ ጥናቱ ላይ ተገኝተው የመክፈቻ ንግግር ያደረጉት የባሕር ዳር ዩኒቨርሲቲ ኢንፎርሜሽንና ስትራቴጅክ ኮሙኒኬሽን ም/ፕሬዝዳንት ዶ/ር ዘውዱ እምሩ በበኩላቸው ባሕር ዳር ዩኒቨርሲቲ እንደ ከፍተኛ ትምህርት ተቋም በመማር ማስተማርና በምርምር ልህቀት እንዲሁም ተጽዕኖ ያለው የማህበረሰብ አገልግሎት ለማበርከት በሙያ ያከናውናቸው ጥራት ተኮር ስራዎች እና እስከ አሁንም የተመዘገቡ ውጤቶች አበረታች ናቸው ብለዋል፡፡በየደረጃው ያሉ አካላት ጥራት የኔ ጉዳይ ነው ብለው እንዲንቀሳቀሱ በማድረግ በኩል ይበልጥ ትኩረት ሰጥቶ የሚሰራበት ጊዜ አሁን ነው፡፡ ለዚህም መምህራንና ሰራተኞችን መደገፍና ተማሪዎቻችን በእውቀት ብቻ ሳይሆን በየጊዜው ከሚለዋወጠው አለም ጋር አብሮ የሚሄድ ማንንት እንዲላበሱ የሚያሥችሉ አስፈላጊ ክህሎቶችና አስተሳሰብ እንዲኖራቸው ማረጋገጥ የሁላችንም ተግባር ሊሆን ይገባል በማለት መድረኩን ከንግግር ከፍተዋል።

በአውደ ጥናቱም ሁለት ቁልፍ መልዕክቶች በፕሮፌሰር ታደሰ መለሰ እና ፕሮፌሰር አበባው ይርጋ የቀረቡ ሲሆን፤ በዶ/ር ዝይን ምህረት፤ ዶ/ር ቀረብህ አስረስ፤ አቶ ተረፈ በላይ እና ዶ/ር አንዳርጋቸው ሞገስ አጠቃላይ የጥራት አስተዳደርን የተመለከቱ ጥናታዊ ፅሑፎች ቀርበው በተሳታፊዎች እና በባለ ድርሻ አካላት ውይይት የተደረገ ሲሆን ጥራት ሁሉን አቀፍ ስለመሆኑ፣ በየደረጃሁ ሁሉንም ባለድርሻ አካል የሚያሳትፍ ስለመሆኑ ተነስቷል።

አውደ ጥናቱ በየአመቱ የሚካሄድ ሲሆን ዘንድሮም በደመቀ ሁኔታ በግማሽ ቀን ተካሂዷል።

ለዩኒቨርሲቲው መምህራን በአፈጻጸምና ግምገማ ላይ መሰረት ያደረገ የሦስት ቀን የTOT ስልጠና በመሰጠት ላይ ነው

የባሕር ዳር ዩኒቨርሲቲ ከተለያዩ የአካዳሚክ ክፍሎች ለተውጣጡ መምህራን በአፈጻጸምና ግምገማ ላይ መሰረት ያደረገ የTOT ስልጠና (TOT Training on Performance-Based Assessment) በሚል ርዕሰ ጉዳይ ከዛሬ በ11/02/17 ዓ.ም ጀምሮ ለሦስት ተከታታይ ቀናት የሚቆይ የአቅም ግንባታ ስልጠና በፔዳ ግቢ የስልጠና ማዕከል በሙያው በሰለጠኑ መምህራን በመሰጠት ላይ ነው፡፡
ስልጠናውን በንግግር ያስጀመሩት የዩኒቨርሲቲው የፈተና ማዕከል (Testing Center) ዳይሬክተር ዶ/ር ጥሩወርቅ ታምሩ ማዕከሉ የሚያከናውናቸው ተግባራት የዩኒቨርሲቲውን የፅንሰ ሃሳብም ሆነ የተግባር ትምህርቶችን የፈተና ጥራት የማሻሻል፣አገር አቀፍ፣የውጭና የቅጥር ፈተናዎች ጥራታቸውን ጠብቀው ማዘጋጀትና ማስፈተን እንዲሁም ዓለም አቀፍ የእንግሊዝኛ ቋንቋ ፈተና (International English Language Tasting Center /IELTC/) እና የመሳሰሉ ፈተናዎችን መስጠት መሆኑን አስስረድተዋል፡፡
እንደ ዳይሬክተሯ ገለፃ የሶስቱ ቀን ስልጠና ዓላማ ተግባር ተኮር ለሆኑ ትምህርቶች የመመዘኛ መሳሪያዎችን ለማሻሻል ታልሞ የተዘጋጀ መሆኑን ገልፀዋል፡፡ በተጨማሪም ከስልጠናው መልስ ይህ ሰልጣኞች ከተለያዩ የተግባር ተኮር ምዘናዎች ጋር ተዋውቀው ምዘናዎችን በመስራት በኮሌጃቸው ላሉ መመህራን ስልጠናውን በመስጠት ተደራሽ እንደሚያደርጉት እና የተለያዩ መመዘኛዎችን አዘጋጅተው ለማሰልጠኛ ማኑዋሉ ተጨማሪ ግብዓት እንደሚሰጡ በንግግራቸው ጠቁመዋል፡፡
ለሰልጣኞች የተግባር ስልጠናውን የሚሰጡ መምህራን በዩኒቨርሲቲው ውስጥ ካሉ ስድስት የአካዳሚክ ክፍሎች ማለትም ከባህሕር ዳር ቴክኖሎጂ ኢንስቲትዩት፣ ከኢትዮጲያ ቴክስታይልና ፋሽን ቴክኖሎጂ ኢንስቲትዩት፣ ከሕክምናና ጤና ሳይንስ ኮሌጅ፣ ከግብርናና አካባቢ ሳይንስ ኮሌጅ፣ ከሳይንስ ኮሌጅ እና ከስፖርት አካዳሚ የተውጣጡ 32 አሰልጣኝ መምህራኖች መሆናቸውን ዶ/ር ጥሩወርቅ አክለው ገልፀዋል፡፡
ስልጠናውን ያዘጋጁት የዩኒቨርሲቲው የፈተና ማዕከል እና የስልጠና ዳይሬክቶሬት በጋራ ሲሆኑ ስልጠናው ከ11/02/17-13/02/17 ዓ.ም ጀምሮ ለሦስት ተከታታይ የስራ ቀናት የሚሰጥ መሆኑ ታውቋል፡፡

Bahir Dar University Collaborates with Yu. A. Gagarin Research and Test Cosmonaut Training Center for Insightful Sessions on Space Exploration

Bahir Dar University hosted two consecutive engaging video conferencing sessions in collaboration with the Yu. A. Gagarin Research and Test Cosmonaut Training Center in Russia. These sessions featured esteemed guests Peter Dubrov, a prominent cosmonaut from the state corporation Roscosmos, and Natalia Pavlenko, a specialist from the GCTC.

The event aimed to shed light on the history and significance of peaceful space exploration.

Peter Dubrov shared his personal experiences as a cosmonaut, detailing the challenges and triumphs of space travel. His firsthand accounts not only highlighted the technical aspects of space missions but also emphasized the impact of these explorations on science studies.

On the other hand, Natalia Pavlenko captivated the audience with insights into the evolution of space missions discussing, among others, the beginning of the space age, the first space testers, and the first multiseat spacecraft.

The sessions went interactive, with students and faculty from Bahir Dar University participating by raising questions. Both presenters took the time to respond thoughtfully, fostering exchange of ideas.

Feedback from participants highlighted the inspiring nature of both sessions, which are believed to encourage students to explore careers in space science and related fields.
