“A man’s Salat in congregation is twenty-five times more rewarding than his Salat at home or in his shop, and that is because when he performs his Wudu’ properly and proceeds towards the mosque with the purpose of performing Salat in congregation, he does not take a step without being raised a degree (in rank) for it and having a sin remitted for it, till he enters the mosque. When he is performing Salat, the angels continue to invoke Blessings of Allah on him as long as he is in his place of worship in a state of Wudu’. They say: `O Allah! Have mercy on him! O Allah! Forgive him.’ He is deemed to be engaged in Salat as long as he waits for it.”

*Five Authentic Modes of Dhikr After the Salaah*

Allaah’s Messenger (salallaahu alaihi wassallam) would make tasbeeh (glorify Allaah), tahmeed (praise Him) and takbeer (extol His greatness) after the obligatory prayers. The following is what is authentically reported from him:

1. *Subhaanallaah 33 times, al-hamdulillaah 33 times, Allaahu-akbar 33 times and finishing with a single Laa ilaaha illallaah wahdahu laa shareekalahu, lahul mulk walahul hamd wa huwa ‘alaa kulli shayin qadeer.* (Muslim, 597).

2. *Subhaanallaah 33 times, al-hamdulillaah 33 times, Allaahu-akbar 34 times.* (Muslim, 596).

3. *Subhaanallaah 33 times, al-hamdulillaah 33 times, and Allaahu-akbar 33 times.* (Bukhaaree, 843, Muslim, 595).

4. *Subhaanallaah 10 times, al-hamdulillaah 10 times, and Allaahu-akbar 10 times.* (Bukhaaree, 6329).

5. *Subhaanallaah 25 times, al-hamdulillaah 25 times, Allaahu-akbar 25 times, and Laa ilaaha illallaah 25 times.* (An-Nasaa’ee 1351 authenticated by al-Albaanee)

Abdullaah bin ‘Amr said: I saw Allaah’s Messenger (salallaahu alaihi wassallam) counting them on [the fingers of] his right hand. (Abu Dawood, 5065, at-Tirmidhee, 3410). One should alternate between the various modes. *It is not allowed to use threaded beads, counters or stones to count dhikr as they all are wicked innovations – and the best guidance is that of the Prophet.*

We ask Allaah, the Most High, to grant us success.

Question 6:
Why did Allah send the Messengers?

He sent them to call to His worship alone and to negate associating partners with Him in worship. Allah The Most High said,

وَلَقَدۡ بَعَثۡنَا فِى ڪُلِّ أُمَّةٍ۬ رَّسُولاً أَنِ ٱعۡبُدُواْ ٱللَّهَ وَٱجۡتَنِبُواْ ٱلطَّـٰغُوتَ‌ۖ فَمِنۡهُم مَّنۡ هَدَى ٱللَّهُ وَمِنۡهُم مَّنۡ حَقَّتۡ عَلَيۡهِ ٱلضَّلَـٰلَةُ‌ۚ فَسِيرُواْ فِى ٱلۡأَرۡضِ فَٱنظُرُواْ كَيۡفَ كَانَ عَـٰقِبَةُ ٱلۡمُكَذِّبِينَ (٣٦)

And We certainly sent into every nation a messenger, [proclaiming], "Worship Allah and avoid Taghoot." And among them were those whom Allah guided, and among them were those upon whom error was [deservedly] decreed. So travel through the land and see what was the end of those who denied (the truth). (An-Nahl:36)

The meaning of Taghoot, is a devil which calls to the worship of other than Allah.*

Prophetic Evidence:
The prophet (peace and blessings upon him) said,

The Prophets are [like] paternal brothers; their mothers are different but their religion is one.” (Bukhāri & Muslim)

(The religion of all Prophets is one and it is Tawheed, just as paternal brothers have the same father; and their laws and legislation are different just as they have different mothers.)

*Hāfiẓ ʿAbd Al-Ghaniyy Al-Maqdisī (d. 600H) on the Innovators That Destroy Islām and Its People*

Al-Hāfiẓ ʿAbd al-Ghaniyy al-Maqdisī (d. 600H) (رحمه الله) said:[1]

Know may Allāh have mercy upon you that Islām and its people are attacked and destroyed by three groups:

*01 A group who reject the ḥadīths pertaining to the Attributes of Allāh and who reject their narrators.* They are more harmful to Islām and its adherents than the disbelievers

*02 A group who speak with the authenticity of these ḥadīths and accept them, but they perform taʾwīl (figurative interpolation) of them.* They are mightier in their harm than the first group

*03 And the third group, those who avoid the above two sayings, and begin, as they claim, to purify Allāh from all imperfections [calling this tanzīh], but in fact they are liars, and this leads them to the very same above two sayings.* So they are more harmful than the first two groups.

Comments:
*01 The first group are the Jahmiyyah and Mu’tazilah who reject the ḥadīths of the attributes and consider them inauthentic.* They revile the narrators of these ḥadīths.

*02 The second group are those from Ahl al-Kalām such as the Ashʾarīs and Māturīdīs who make taʾwīl of the texts of the attributes, and this is one approach among them.* They are more harmful than the first group because people are naturally averse to those who reject the ḥadīths and disparage the trustworthy narrators, yet they will trust those who appear to affirm the texts, not realising that they, being unable to deny their authenticity are using another method to invalidate what they comprise of the affirmation of attributes for Allāḥ.

*03 As for the third group, they do not reject the ḥadīths outright, nor attempt to distort their meanings through allegories, but they claim to make tafwīḍ, which is to claim that the meanings of the texts are unknown and that knowledge thereof is consigned to Allāh.* They claim this so as to allegedly purify Him from what does not befit him because they presume that the apparent meanings of these texts are tashbīh (anthropomorphism). They are more harmful than the previous group, because they do not play around with the text by distorting it and speculating as to its meaning, as this may raise suspicion. Rather, they make the claim to piety of purifying and sanctifying Allāh from shortcomings, they also ascribe this way to the Salaf, and this can deceive people who are unaware of the realities.

As for the reason why they destroy Islām and its people, then it is because they erode an erase īmān and its foundations from the hearts of the people through their negation of Allāh’s Names and Attributes which is done either in whole as is done by the Jahmiyyah or in part as is done by the rest.

Taking this rejection to its natural, logical conclusion leads to the non-existence of Allāh (عز وجل). *Negation of some attributes necessitates, due to logical and rational necessities and the avoidance of contradiction, the negation of all attributes, and that which is not described by anything is nothing in reality.*

What is Ihsān in Worship?

Ihsān is remembering and being aware when performing worship that Allāh Knows, Sees and Hears all that you do.

Quranic Evidence:
لَّذِى يَرَٮٰكَ حِينَ تَقُومُ (٢١٨) وَتَقَلُّبَكَ فِى
ٱلسَّـٰجِدِينَ (٢١٩)

Who sees you when you stand up (alone at night for Tahajjud prayers). And your movement among those who prostrate.(Al-Shuara: 218-219)

Prophetic Evidence:
He (Peace and blessings upon him) said,

"It is to worship Allāh as if you can see Him, and even though you cannot see Him, He most certainly sees you." (Hadith Jibrīl)

*A youth who put himself forward at the head of the gathering, and started talking and boasting in front of those who were older than him – A tremendous lesson from Imām Sufyān Ath-Thawrī (d. 161 AH)*

Al-Baihaqi recorded in al-Madkhal ilas-Sunanil-Kubrā (no.679):

“Abu ‘Āsim said: A youth from the people of knowledge was present at the gathering of Sufyān Ath-Thawrī (d. 161 H); so the youth put himself forward at the head of the gathering and started talking and boasting with his knowledge in front of those who were older than him.

So Sufyān (rahimahullāh) became angry and said: *“The Salaf were not like this! Not one of them would claim leadership for himself and he would not sit in the forefront of the gathering until he had sought knowledge for thirty years! And you display arrogance in front of someone older than you. Get up from me and don’t come near my gathering.”*

Sufyan al-Thawrī also said: *“If you see a youth speaking in the presence of Mashāyikh, even if he has acquired a portion of knowledge, then lose hope in his goodness, for verily he has no shame.”*

Ibn Abee Dunyā in As-Samt wa Ādābul-Lisān (586,588), and Al-Khateeb al-Baghdādī in Al-Faqeeh wal-Mutafaqqih (2/275) that Ibraheem Al-Ad’ham said:

*“If a youngster (or newcomer) speaks before us in our gathering, we lose hope in him.”*

So, beware of those youth (on social media) and newcomers who say: don’t trust the elders from the scholars, students of knowledge and the mashayikh of this blessed daʿwah, because is these elders in the field of daʿwah who have sat at the feet of theʿulamā al-kibār (the major scholars) over the last 30 years benefitting from them, been praised by them, defended by them and recommended by them.

It is these elders (may Allāh preserve them) who have remained, by Allah’s permission, steadfast upon the Sunnah and Salafiyyah, and stood in opposition to the people of desires. They have not (walhamdulillāh) changed in their adherence to the manhaj of the kibār al-ʿulamā of this age and of previous times. So, it is as Imām Sufyān Ath-Thawrī said: “If you see a youth speaking in the presence of Mashāyikh, even if he has acquired a portion of knowledge, then lose hope in his goodness, for verily he has no shame.” This is the youth who comes forth to raise himself and belittles the elders claiming he has acquired a portion of knowledge. May Allah keep us and our children sincere, truthful and steadfast on the Straight Path.

عن [ابنِ عبَّاسٍ] رَضِي اللهُ عَنْهُما، عَنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِيما يَرْويهِ عَنْ ربِّهِ تَبَارَكَ وتَعالى قالَ: "إِنَّ اللهَ كَتَبَ الْحَسَنَاتِ وَالسَّيِّئَاتِ، ثُمَّ بَيَّنَ ذَلِكَ؛ فَمَنْ هَمَّ بِحَسَنةٍ فَلَمْ يَعْمَلْهَا كَتَبَهَا اللهُ عِنْدَهُ حَسَنَةً كَامِلَةً، وَإِنْ هَمَّ بِهَا فَعَمِلَهَا كَتَبَهَا اللهُ عِنْدَهُ عَشْرَ حَسَنَاتٍ إِلَى سَبْعِمِائَةِ ضِعْفٍ إِلَى أَضْعَافٍ كَثِيرَةٍ، وَإِنْ هَمَّ بِسَيِّئَةٍ فَلَمْ يَعْمَلْها كَتَبَهَا اللهُ عِنْدَهُ حَسَنَةً كَامِلَةً، وَإِنْ هَمَّ بِهَا فَعَمِلَهَا كَتَبَهَا اللهُ سَيِّئَةً وَاحِدَةً". رواهُ البخاريُّ ومسلمٌ في صحيحيهما بهذهِ الحروفِ.


From Ibn ʿAbbās (raḍiyallāhu ʿanhumā), from the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallallāhu ʿalayhi wasallam), from that which he narrates from His Lord, the Blessed and Exalted, that He said, "Allāh has written down the good deeds and the bad deeds." Then he explained it [by saying that], "He who considered doing a good deed and has not done it, Allāh writes it down with Himself as a full good deed, but if he considered doing it and has done it, Allāh writes it down with Himself as from ten good deeds to seven hundred times, or many times over. But if he considered doing a bad deed and has not done it, Allāh writes it down with Himself as a full good deed, but if he considered doing it and has done it, Allāh writes it down as one bad deed."

*The Amazing Final Two Verses of Al-Baqarah: Tremendous Benefits*

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم
آمَنَ الرَّسُولُ بِمَا أُنزِلَ إِلَيْهِ مِن رَّبِّهِ وَالْمُؤْمِنُونَ ۚ كُلٌّ آمَنَ بِاللَّهِ وَمَلَائِكَتِهِ وَكُتُبِهِ وَرُسُلِهِ لَا نُفَرِّقُ بَيْنَ أَحَدٍ مِّن رُّسُلِهِ ۚ وَقَالُوا سَمِعْنَا وَأَطَعْنَا ۖ غُفْرَانَكَ رَبَّنَا وَإِلَيْكَ الْمَصِيرُ

*“The Messenger has believed in what was revealed to him from his Lord, and [so have] the believers. All of them have believed in Allah and His angels and His books and His messengers, [saying], “We make no distinction between any of His messengers.” And they say, “We hear and we obey. [We seek] Your forgiveness, our Lord, and to You is the [final] destination.””*

لَا يُكَلِّفُ اللَّهُ نَفْسًا إِلَّا وُسْعَهَا ۚ لَهَا مَا كَسَبَتْ وَعَلَيْهَا مَا اكْتَسَبَتْ ۗ رَبَّنَا لَا تُؤَاخِذْنَا إِن نَّسِينَا أَوْ أَخْطَأْنَا ۚ رَبَّنَا وَلَا تَحْمِلْ عَلَيْنَا إِصْرًا كَمَا حَمَلْتَهُ عَلَى الَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِنَا ۚ رَبَّنَا وَلَا تُحَمِّلْنَا مَا لَا طَاقَةَ لَنَا بِهِ ۖ وَاعْفُ عَنَّا وَاغْفِرْ لَنَا وَارْحَمْنَا ۚ أَنتَ مَوْلَانَا فَانصُرْنَا عَلَى الْقَوْمِ الْكَافِرِينَ

*“Allah does not charge a soul except [with that within] its capacity. It will have [the consequence of] what [good] it has gained, and it will bear [the consequence of] what [evil] it has earned. “Our Lord, do not impose blame upon us if we have forgotten or erred. Our Lord, and lay not upon us a burden like that which You laid upon those before us. Our Lord, and burden us not with that which we have no ability to bear. And pardon us; and forgive us; and have mercy upon us. You are our protector, so aid us over the disbelieving people.””*

Both Al-Bukhaaree and Muslim narrate in their Saheehs from Ibn Mas’ood (radiyallaahu ‘anhu) that the Messenger (salallaahu ‘alaihi wassallam) said:

قَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَنْ قَرَأَ بِالْآيَتَيْنِ مِنْ آخِرِ سُورَةِ الْبَقَرَةِ فِي لَيْلَةٍ كَفَتَاهُ

*“Whoever recites the two verses at the end of Sooratul-Baqarah in the night, they will suffice him.”*
(Bukhaaree 5009, Muslim 808)

The sufficing here refers to the fact that they will protect him from evil and despised matters, and the Shaytaan will not approach him in the night, and he will be accredited with virtue and reward. And all of these are gathered from this narration. (See Fat-hul-Baaree by Ibn Hajr 9/56)

*A Supplication Before Bedtime Reminds One of Gratitude And Places Kindness In The Hearts For The Poor And Needy*

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

*Supplication:*

الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي أَطْعَمَنَا وَسَقَانَا وَكَفَانَا وَآوَانَا فَكَمْ مِمَّنْ لاَ كَافِيَ لَهُ وَلاَ مُئْوِيَ

*All praise is due to Allah Who fed us, provided us drink, sufficed us and provided us with shelter, for how many people there is none to suffice and none to provide shelter.* [Saheeh Muslim Number 2715]

Shaikh Abdur-Razzaaq Al-Badr [hafidhahullaah] said: In this supplication, there is a reminder for the Muslim before he goes to bed regarding the end of the day and the hours that have elapsed, in which Allaah provided him with food, drink and shelter, whilst there are a number of people who could not find food as a source of nourishment or drink to quench their thirst, or clothing to clothed themselves, or a dwelling place. So whoever Allaah blessed with food and drink, sufficed him, then it is obligated on him to acknowledge the blessings of Allaah and consider it as something that is great indeed. That is because being grateful for the blessings Allaah has given you is a means to retaining and increasing those blessings. Allaah (The Most High) said:

[وَإِذْ تَأَذَّنَ رَبُّكُمْ لَئِنْ شَكَرْتُمْ لَأَزِيدَنَّكُمْ ۖ وَلَئِنْ كَفَرْتُمْ إِنَّ عَذَابِي لَشَدِيدٌ - *And (remember) when your Lord proclaimed: “If you give thanks (by accepting Faith and worshipping none but Allah), I will give you more (of My Blessings), but if you are thankless (i.e. disbelievers), verily! My Punishment is indeed severe]*. [14:7]

Remain Focused in Your Prayer, Make a Good Wudoo, Perform Rukoo’ Well, Be Submissive and Aware, and Never Miss Fajr and ‘Asr


Messenger of Allah (salallāhu ʿalaihi wasallam) said:
“Allah, the Exalted, has made five prayers obligatory. If a person performs wudoo for them well, then prays them at their right time, and observes perfectly the bowing (rukooʿ) and submissiveness (khushooʿ) in them—it is the guarantee of Allah that He will forgive him. If a person does not do so, there is no guarantee for him from Allah, He may forgive him if He wills, or punish him if He wills.” (Abu Dawood, no. 425, saheeh – Al-Albāni)
The Messenger of Allah (salallāhu ʿalaihi wasallam) was asked: ‘Which of the actions is best?’ He replied: ‘Observing prayer early in its time.’ (Abu Dawood no. 426, saheeh – Al-Albāni)
The Messenger of Allah (salallāhu ʿalaihi wasallam) said: “No one will enter Hell who has prayed before the rising of the sun (i.e., Fajr) and before its setting (ʿAsr).” (Abu Dawood, no. 427, saheeh – Al-Albāni)

Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said,
“A man’s Salat in congregation is twenty-five times more rewarding than his Salat at home or in his shop, and that is because when he performs his Wudu’ properly and proceeds towards the mosque with the purpose of performing Salat in congregation, he does not take a step without being raised a degree (in rank) for it and having a sin remitted for it, till he enters the mosque. When he is performing Salat, the angels continue to invoke Blessings of Allah on him as long as he is in his place of worship in a state of Wudu’. They say: `O Allah! Have mercy on him! O Allah! Forgive him.’ He is deemed to be engaged in Salat as long as he waits for it.”

The blessing of waking up in the morning upon Islam

In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

أَصْبَحْنَا عَلَى فِطْرَةِ الْإِسْلَامِ وَعَلَى كَلِمَةِ الْإِخْلَاصِ، وَعَلَى دِينِ نَبِيِّنَا مُحَمَّدٍ صَلَى اللهُ عَلِيهِ وَسَلَّمَ، وَعَلَى مِلَّةِ أَبِينَا إِبْرَاهِيمَ، حَنِيفَاً مُسْلِماً وَمَا كَانَ مِنَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ

We have reached the morning whilst being upon the Fitrah of Islam; upon the statement of Ikhlas; and upon the religion of our Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, and the way of our forefather Ibrahim , who was Haneefan [one who singled out Allah in worship and distanced himself from everything worshipped besides Allah] and Musliman [a true Muslim], and he was not of those who associated partners to Allah [in worship]. NB: In the evening, the phrase [أَصْبَحْنَا  – we have reached the morning] is replaced with [أَمْسَيْنَا – we have reached the evening]

Explanation
أَصْبَحْنَا عَلَى فِطْرَةِ الإِسْلاَمِ
[We have (reached the morning whilst being upon) the Fitrah of Islam]- Meaning: We have been favoured through reaching the morning, whilst we are upon the religion of Islam, adhering and being safeguarded upon it- neither being from those upon something different nor those who substitute their Islam.

O my Lord! My people deserted this Qur’an


In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Imam Ibn Al Qayyim, may Allah have mercy upon him, said: Boycotting the Qur’an is of different types:

- To abandon listening to it; to abandon belief in it and not paying attention to it.

- To abandon acting upon it. To abandon judging by it in the fundamentals of the religion and its subsidiary issues.

- To (claim) that it does not give certainty. To (claim) that its statements do not lead to knowledge.

- To abandon contemplating it. To abandon seeking to understand it. To abandon acquiring knowledge of what Allah intends by it and its remedies.

Even though some of these types of boycotting are less serious than others, they are all included in Allah’s statement:

وَقَالَ الرَّسُولُ يَا رَبِّ إِنَّ قَوْمِي اتَّخَذُوا هَٰذَا الْقُرْآنَ مَهْجُورًا

And the Messenger Muhammad will say: ”O my Lord! My people deserted this Qur’an”.

Part 20: Belief in the River of Life and the “Jahannamiyyoon” (Those Punished and then Placed in Paradise) – The Foundations of the Sunnah of Imām Ahmad Ibn Hanbal: Benefits from Shaikh An-Najmī


Imām Ahmad bin Hanbal (rahimahullah) continued his discussion of the intercession (ash-shafāʿah), and of those who will be brought out of the Hellfire after being burned and reduced to charcoal saying. So Imam Ahmad said:

والإيمان بشفاعة النبي صلى الله عليه و سلم, وبقوم يخرجون من النار بعد ما احترقوا وصاروا فحما
فيؤمر بهم إلى نهر على باب الجنة كما جاء في الأثر, كيف شاء الله, وكما شاء,
إنما هو الإيمان به, والتصديق به.

“And to have faith in the Intercession of the Prophet (salallāhu ‘alaihi wasallam) and that some people will be brought out of the Fire after they have been burnt and reduced to charcoal.
So it will be commanded for those who have been burned to be placed in a river by the gate of Jannah as occurs in the narrations however Allah wills and as He wills. Indeed, it is (a must) to have faith in it and to attest to its truthfulness.”

Explanation
This proves that those Muslims who have been punished will die in the Hellfire, but as for other than them, then they will neither die nor will they [truly] live. The Muslims who were punished in the Fire due to their sins will then be placed in the River of Life at the Gate of Paradise, and they will grow just like a seed grows after the flood water recedes.

“A man’s Salat in congregation is twenty-five times more rewarding than his Salat at home or in his shop, and that is because when he performs his Wudu’ properly and proceeds towards the mosque with the purpose of performing Salat in congregation, he does not take a step without being raised a degree (in rank) for it and having a sin remitted for it, till he enters the mosque. When he is performing Salat, the angels continue to invoke Blessings of Allah on him as long as he is in his place of worship in a state of Wudu’. They say: `O Allah! Have mercy on him! O Allah! Forgive him.’ He is deemed to be engaged in Salat as long as he waits for it.”

Advice in Dealing with Calamities - Shuraih al-Qādhiy (rahimahullah)

* Shuraih was from those who accepted Islam during the time of the Messenger (sallallaahu alaihi wa salam) however he did not meet him and is therefore from the Taabi’een. He narrated from the likes of ‘Umar, ‘Alī and ‘Abdur Rahman ibn Abī Bakr (Allah be pleased with them all).

‘Umar appointed him as a judge of Koofah, it is reported he was a judge there for 60 years.
