In your interactions with people, sit with the people of faith and choose honest companions.
Exert your effort in bringing happiness to others, even if it is merely with a kind word, and always strive to have the high hand (i.e., to be in a position to give).

When you give, do not expect anything in return. If you are met with ingratitude, do not be upset. Instead, expecting such reactions is gentler on your heart and more comforting to your mind.

And know that good character is not based on reciprocal exchange but on following (the Sunnah).

Shaykh al-’Allāmah Rabīʿ al-Madkhalī (may Allah preserve him) said in Al-Dhariat (3/215):

“Anyone who feels an itch in their head and then posts their troubles on the internet—leave such matters. Speak with knowledge that honors you and your daʿwah. Whoever does not possess knowledge should not write for people, whether on the internet or elsewhere. Avoid hatred and grudges; otherwise, by Allah, you will destroy this daʿwah.” End of quote.

This soon to be released publication (إن شاء الله) is the culmination of work spanning many years. I had hoped to release it two years ago for a local seminar. I revisited it and fleshed it out, by Allah’s permission, to its current version. It is a little over 300 pages, and was compiled from well over 100 scholarly writings. May Allah accept our small efforts and allow others to benefit as I did in researching & compiling it. Islam is beautiful and nobody is better at explaining that than the Ulemā. May Allah envelop them in his mercy.

⚠️ I compiled this collection of advices and rulings with three people in mind: (1.) Youth or anyone else readying themselves for marriage; (2.) Parents and guardians searching for suitors; & (3.) Couples and families who would like to strengthen the foundations of their marriage. In other words, it was researched with almost everyone in mind. May Allah strengthen our families and communities.

The five purposes of marriage are:

(1️⃣.) Chastity (lawful fulfillment of natural sexual desire).
(2️⃣.) Children (to reproduce and raise righteous youth).
(3️⃣.) Companionship (to cooperate in building a family).
(4️⃣.) Community (the linkage between families & strengthening of community via the marriage bond).
(5️⃣.) Commitment (ensuring longevity by marrying for the right reasons and fulfilling marital duties).

💎[Powerful Advice from a Nurturing Scholar: Avoid Anything that Causes Worry, Sadness, & Distress]

Shaykh Ibn Uthaymeen (may Allah have mercy on him) said:

“Strive to distance yourself from anything that brings worry, sorrow, or distress so that you may always remain at ease, with a content and open heart, focused on Allah, His worship, and your worldly and spiritual affairs. If you practice this, you will find relief. However, if you burden yourself with regret over the past or excessive concern for the future in a way not sanctioned by Islamic teachings, know that you will exhaust yourself and miss out on much goodness.”

⭐️[Praying in a Masjid 🕌 is Always Greater in Reward, Even When it is a Far Distance]

Imam Ibn Bāz (d. 1420 AH رحمه الله) said:

It is obligatory for the morally accountable person to attend the congregational prayer with the Muslims in the masjid unless they are far from the masjid, unable to hear the call to prayer (adhan). In that case, there is no sin upon them if they pray at home. If the masjid is far from you, where you cannot hear the call to prayer, there is no harm in praying at home. However, if you pray in the masjid, even with difficulty, it is better and brings greater reward. But it is not obligatory if the masjid is far such that the call to prayer cannot be heard in its usual, unamplified voice. As for the use of loudspeakers, the sound may reach farther distances, but not everyone can walk to where the sound is heard.

In conclusion, it is not obligatory to strive to reach the masjid if it is far and the call to prayer, in its usual voice during quiet conditions, cannot be heard. However, if you make the effort and endure the hardship, it is better, indeed.”

🔥[Wisdom from the Salaf: The World Makes us Sick; We Must Heal Our Souls]

Sufyān ibn ʿUyaynah (رحمه الله) said:

“A wise person said, ‘It is fitting for a person engrossed in worldly matters to be like a sick person in this world, requiring sustenance but unable to consume all types of food. It is fitting for an intelligent person to govern their soul as a doctor manages a patient—treating it with care, imposing the necessary dietary restrictions, and avoiding what might worsen its condition just as the doctor avoids what exacerbates the patient’s illness.’”

📚[Al-Majālisah wa Jawāhir al-ʿIlm, 2717 (6/328) by Ibn Qutaybah; Dar Ibn Hazm 1419 AH - 1998 CE]

Abū ʿAlī Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad ibn Yaʿqūb Miskawayh (d. 421 AH) said:

“The wise have likened someone who neglects to govern the rational part of their soul and allows the dominion of desire to overtake it to a man who possesses a precious red ruby of unparalleled value, exceeding even gold and silver in grandeur and rarity. He stands before a blazing fire and throws the ruby into its flames, reducing it to a useless shard of glass, thereby squandering its benefits.

We now understand that when the rational part of the soul recognizes its own nobility and senses its rank bestowed by Allah Almighty, it fulfills its stewardship by nurturing and governing its faculties with care. It uses the strength Allah has granted to elevate itself to the station of Allah's honor and to its rightful place of loftiness and dignity, without succumbing to the baser animalistic or predatory instincts.”

💎[Most People are Possessed & Driven by Devils]

Imam Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allah have mercy on him) said in Zad al-Ma’ad (4/63):

“If the veil were lifted, you would see that most human souls are struck down by these evil spirits. They are held captive by them, driven wherever the spirits will, unable to resist or oppose them.

💎[No Ulterior Motives in Genuine Brotherhood].

Benefit: Abu Ja'far Al-Ṭaḥāwī (d. 321 AH رحمه الله) says in Sharḥ Mushkal al Athār (4599):

“On the authority of Abū Hurayrah (رضي الله عنه), the Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وسلم) once went out to the cemetery and said:

‘Peace be upon you, O dwelling of believing people. And indeed, if Allah wills, we will join you. I wish I had seen our brothers.’

The Companions said, ‘O Messenger of Allah, are we not your brothers?’ He replied, ‘No, you are my Companions, but my brothers are those who have not yet come. I will precede them at the basin (al-Ḥawḍ).’

Al-Ṭaḥāwī (رحمه الله) says:

Reflecting on this ḥadīth (and the previous one), we find that brotherhood (ukhuwwah) is the state of pure sincerity (muṣāfa)—one free of deception, with no hidden motives that contradict its outward expression.

Allah’s words reinforce this meaning: ‘Indeed, the believers are but brothers’ [Surat al-Ḥujurāt: 10], indicating that what exists between them and the commitments they uphold for one another are outwardly and inwardly consistent, without contradiction.”

💎[Mind Your Own Business!]

Shaykh Abdul Aziz Al-Salman (رحمه الله) said:

“Among the virtues of Islam is that a person does not interfere in what does not concern him. This is one of the concise, comprehensive sayings of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, as mentioned in the hadith: ‘Part of the excellence of a person’s Islam is leaving what does not concern him.’ Some have taken this and expressed it in the phrase: ‘Mind your own business.’

If Muslims adhered to the guidance and advice of their Prophet ﷺ, they would find peace and bring peace to others. If you were to trace most problems, disputes, conflicts, and arguments, you would find that their sole cause is interference in matters that do not concern one.”

Many children are neglected after separation with little supervision, nurturing, support, or protection. The roles of the each parent are innate and common sensical, yet such basic sense is increasingly uncommon. This leaves our precious young ones vulnerable inside and outside of their homes. The household is often a group of familiar strangers.

A vessel only gives what it holds and it’s no wonder that many in the up and coming generation are ill prepared for adulthood, marriage or parenthood.

Neglect is often more detrimental than abuse because neglect is parental inattention/apathy while abuse is negative attention. Don’t pass down generational dysfunctional to future generations.

Islamic custody laws shine a bright light on the individual responsibilities of the mother and father whether still married or separated. These rights are all the more crucial after divorce.

Learn the rights of Muslim children, then educate, implement, & enforce.

⚠️New Book Release!!!⚠️

By Allah’s grace, our most recent publication “Navigating Parenthood After Divorce” is now available on Amazon. It covers a wide array of crucial issues pertaining to the well-being of children after divorce.

This well-researched book is a direly needed resource in English due to the lack of detailed information on the subject and the alarming prevalence of divorce.

It consists of an introduction, four chapters, and a conclusion.

👉Ch 1 is a lengthy collection of advices about reconciliation and separating in kindness.

👉Ch 2 is about Islamic child custody law being premised upon the best interests of the children and how that is assessed in every place and time. It then discusses the eligibility criteria of child custody. It contains a lengthy discussion about ensuring safe environments for our children at home, school, surrounding neighborhood, etc.

👉Ch 3 discusses the default roles of the mother and father after divorce, which when fulfilled ensure the best outcome for children. It concludes with some essential guidelines for non-custodial parental visitation.

👉Ch 4 is a detailed discussion on the effect of parental relocation and the mother remarrying on her eligibility for custody.

👉The conclusion is about abusing custodial rights.

May Allah accept it and make it a source of great benefit for the Muslims.

💎[Neither wealth, power, knowledge, nor technology can shield oppressors from divine justice]

Al-Saʿdī (d. 1376 AH رحمه الله) said [Al-Ḥaqq al-Wāḍiḥ al-Mubīn p. 466]:

“Among the signs of His power is that you see the earth lifeless, and when He sends down water upon it, it stirs, swells, and produces from every delightful kind.

And among the signs of His power is what He inflicted upon the denying nations and oppressive disbelievers in terms of various punishments and the descent of exemplary retributions. Their scheming, plotting, wealth, soldiers, and fortresses could avail them nothing against the punishment of Allah when the command of your Lord came. It only increased their ruin.

Particularly in these times, the immense power and astounding inventions that these nations have achieved are from Allah enabling them and causing them to know what they did not know.

Among Allah’s signs is that their power, capabilities, and inventions did not avail them in repelling the calamities and destructive punishments that befell them, despite their utmost effort and diligence in trying to prevent that. However, Allah’s command prevails, and His power subdues the elements of both the higher and lower worlds.”

“The Muslims”

[A short poem from the prolific linguist and scholar Abu Fihr Maḥmūd b. Muḥammad Shākir (d. 1418 AH

"The Muslims—oh, how humiliated they are
In this world, though their numbers are vast.

When they strove diligently, their era strove favorably alongside them,
But when they changed, so too did the times change.”

[Any Opinion Opposing the Sunnah is Ignorance, Not Knowledge]

Imam Ibn al-Qayyim said:

“The righteous predecessors used to call those whose opinions opposed the Sunnah and what the Messenger—ﷺ—brought, in matters of report-based knowledge and practical rulings, as ‘people of doubts and desires.’ This is because an opinion that opposes the Sunnah is ignorance, not knowledge, and desire, not religion. Such a person is among those who follow their desires without guidance from Allah and follow their desires without knowledge, leading ultimately to misguidance in this world and misery in the Hereafter.”

💎[How can he feel safe?]

Imam Ibn al-Qayyim (d. 751 AH
الله) said:

“How can one be safe who has a wife that shows him no mercy, a child who makes no excuse for him, a neighbor he cannot trust, a friend who does not advise him sincerely, a partner who is unjust to him, an enemy who does not relent in his enmity, a soul that constantly inclines toward evil, and a world adorned in allure?
One who has destructive desire, overwhelming lust, overpowering anger, a devil who adorns evil, and a weakness that overtakes him?

If Allah takes him under His care and draws him near, then all of these are subdued for him. But if Allah forsakes him and leaves him to his own self, they all gather against him, leading to his ruin.”

[So and so said such and such about you]

The talebearer is weak in self, of evil character, fickle-minded, and lowly in thought.

If he combines this with lying, he has completed ugliness and gathered all blameworthiness.

He conveys to you what stirs resentment in your heart against your brother, and conveys to your brother what stirs resentment in his heart against you.

Expel him from your world, keep him far from your surroundings, avoid his news, and beware of his path.

“If only some students of knowledge would occupy themselves with learning to the same extent they busy themselves with what does not benefit them. They pursue news of strife, know the details of problems, yet they are devoid of true knowledge, distracted from what is obligatory upon them. If only they sufficed with the words of the scholars and disseminated them, it would have been better for them and more beneficial for themselves and others.

📚 [Some enter into trials, critical issues, and destructive situations without having the necessary qualifications; the important thing is: Here I am, so recognize me!]

Our Shaykh, the scholar Abdullah Al-Bukhari - may Allah preserve him - said, speaking about the necessity for a person to know their own worth:

A man asked Imam Abdullah ibn Al-Mubarak: “O Imam, advise me.” He replied: “Know your worth.” This is the advice: “Know your worth.” If you know your worth, matters become easier, and you will know where to stop. However, if you are ignorant of your worth, you will throw yourself into destructive situations and dare to engage in calamities, and it is rare that you will come out unscathed.

These trials and disturbances are like fires. Don’t you see that a firefighter wears special protective gear, yet even with his knowledge, care, and protective clothing, something might fail, and he might get hurt? So, what about the one who enters these destructive situations, trials, and calamities without being qualified for it? He is neither from the people of knowledge, nor does he know the clear truth from the clear falsehood. But the important thing is:
“Here I am, so recognize me!”

A trial arises in Algeria, and he involves himself in it! A trial arises in Morocco, and he involves himself in it! A trial arises in Yemen, and he involves himself in it! While Allah has spared you, why do you bring these fires upon yourself? And if only there were some return (from these actions), after it has become clear that these trials are invalid! Instead, people keep engaging in them. We ask Allah for safety and well-being.”

💉🍺 [The Dangers of Intoxicants and Drugs] 💊🥃

Shaykh Dr. Khalid bin Dhahwi Al-Dhufayri, may Allah preserve & protect him, said:

How many children and parents have been corrupted by these intoxicants and drugs!

How many families have been torn apart and bonds of kinship severed!

How much blood has been shed because of them, as confirmed by statistics!

These substances are among the tools of Satan and his followers to spread enmity and hatred among members of a single community.

وَلِذَلِكَ قَالَ تَعَالَى: {إِنَّمَا يُرِيدُ الشَّيْطَانُ أَن يُوقِعَ بَيْنَكُمُ العَدَاوَةَ وَالْبَغْضَاءَ فِي الْخَمْرِ وَالْمَيْسِرِ وَيَصُدَّكُمْ عَن ذِكْرِ اللَّهِ وَعَنِ الصَّلَاةِ فَهَلْ أَنتُم مُّنتَهُونَ}

That is why Allah, Exalted, said: “Satan only wants to cause between you animosity and hatred through intoxicants and gambling, and to avert you from the remembrance of Allah and from prayer. So will you not desist?” [al Ma’idah:91]

“We want youth who live under the shade of the Book of Allah, the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah, and the methodology of the righteous predecessors.

💎[The Subtle War on the Devout: Ibn Taymiyyah on the Devil’s Strategy Against People of Knowledge and Worship]

🖊️ Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah (رحمه الله) said:

“The devil frequently targets a servant when they wish to turn back to their Lord, draw closer to Him, and connect with Him.

For this reason, the devil presents [distractions] to those who pray that he does not present to others.

He afflicts the elite among the people of knowledge and religion more than he does the general public.

This is why students of knowledge and worshipers often experience whispers and doubts that others do not.

This is because others have not followed the law and method of Allah; rather, they are preoccupied with their desires, heedless of remembering their Lord, and this is what the devil seeks.

This is in contrast to those who are directing themselves towards their Lord with knowledge and worship, Iblīs is their enemy, seeking to turn them away from Allah.”

⚠️ [Shaytan Threatens You with Poverty]

🔘Allah (ﷻ) said:

“Satan threatens you with poverty and commands you to immorality, while Allah promises you forgiveness from Him and bounty. And Allah is all-Encompassing and all-Knowing.” [Surah Al-Baqarah: 268]

⭐️Sufyan al-Thawri said:

“Satan has no weapon against a person like the fear of poverty. When someone accepts that from him, they start engaging in falsehood, withholding from the truth, speaking based on desires, and thinking ill of their Lord. This is one of the greatest afflictions upon religion.”

🔥It is reported that Shaytan says:

“The son of Adam will never overpower me in three things: I command him to take wealth unjustly, to spend it unjustly, and to withhold it from those who are deserving of it.”

📚 [Mawārid al-ẓamʾān li-durūs al-zamān, khuṭab wa-ḥikam wa-aḥkām wa-qawāʿid wa-mawāʿiẓ wa-ādāb wa-akhlāq ḥisān (4/598)].

🖊️ Imam Burhan Al-Dīn al Biqā’ī (d. 885 AH رحمه الله) said:

It is as if Allah (ﷻ) is saying [in the verse]: This [the reward of spending mentioned in the previous verse] is something that is not to be doubted, so why do souls not usually act except with stinginess in spending?

[The reason is:] “Satan”—the one whose name is the worst of names, as it implies destruction and distance (from Allah’s mercy). Either of these characteristics alone would be enough to warrant avoiding him, so how much more so when both are combined!

He threatens you with poverty—the poverty that prevents one from spending. Al-Harali said: It is this fear of poverty that causes the people of the world to sever ties, turn against one another, become greedy, and hoard wealth.

Yet none of this removes poverty. Every greedy person is poor, even if he owns the whole world, while every content person is wealthy.

It is rightful of anyone who is a servant to the One who is wealthy to realize that He is the One who enriches His servant.

Fear of poverty is like a slave fleeing from his Master; true poverty is the loss of what is needed at a particular time for the maintenance of a person, both outwardly and inwardly.” End of the quote.
