📌 The Means of Happiness

‎Al-Imām ‘Abd al-‘Azīz ibn Bāz (d. 1420 AH – Allāh have mercy on him) said:

‎Whenever you slip and make a mistake, hasten to repent and correct it, and be knowledgeable and well-versed in your religion.

‎Do not let your share in this worldly life distract you from your share in the Hereafter.

‎Instead, set aside time for worldly matters, but also for learning, understanding your religion, reflecting, reading, reviewing, and focusing on the Book of Allāh and the Sunnah of His Messenger ﷺ.

‎Spend most of your time attending circles of knowledge and keeping the company of the righteous.

‎These actions are of the utmost importance and the means to your happiness.

‎True Humility is Honourable and Elevates a Person

‎Shaykh al-Uthaymeen (rahimahullah),

‎“Humility is from the most important affairs for a student of knowledge, because humility is a characteristic from the tremendous characteristics of the Messenger (peace and blessing upon him) as Allah (عز و جل) said regarding him,

‎وَإِنَّكَ لَعَلَىٰ خُلُقٍ عَظِيمٍ

‎And verily, you (O Muhammad) are on an exalted standard of character. Al-Qalam 68:4

‎Hence, the greatest of people in humility was the Messenger (peace and blessing upon him) alongside the fact that he was the most noble of them and highest in rank with Allah.”

Who among them knows Allah the most?!

In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Imam Ibn Al-Qayyim, may Allah have mercy upon him, stated:

There are those who know Allah as the one who is magnanimous, kind and bestows favours in abundance. There are those who know Him as the one who is forgiving, forbearing and expiates the sins of the servants. There are those who know Him as the possessor of perfect Strength and punishes the wrongdoers justly. There are those who know Him as the posssessor of Perfect, All-Encompassing Knowledge and Wisdom. There are those who know Him as the possessor of perfect Might and Magesty. There are those who know Him as one with perfect mercy, benignity and graciousness. There are those who know Him as the possessor of absolute dominion and that everything is subjugated to Him willingly and unwillingly. There is one who knows Allah as the one who responds to his supplication, relieves his anxiety and fulfil his need.

The ones- among these people – with the most comprehensive knowledge and awareness about Allah are those who know Him by His Speech (i.e. the Qur’an) because they know a Lord who possesses unlimited Perfect Attributes and Perfect Exalted Descriptions – free from every similarity, dificiency, weakness and fault; the possessor of every sublime Name and perfect Attribute; does what He wills (based on perfect knowledge, justice and wisdom); above everyone – (above His throne in a way that befits His Majesty and everything is under His absolute control); knows, hears and sees everything, able to do everything, everyone and everything defends on Him for their subsistence and survival, while He depends on none; gives commands and prohibitions, perfectly ordained all the religious affairs, and spoke about everything (He wants the servants to know regarding) the events that will take place in the universe – present, past and future- based on His perfect knowledge, Perfect Justice and Wisdom). He is greater than everything – (free from all similarities, dificiencies, imperfections, weaknesses and faults). He is the most Merciful of all those who show mercy and the most able to do what He wishes, the best and the only perfect judge (whose judgments are based on absolute certainty, perfect justice, knowledge and wisdom). The Qur’an was revealed so that His servants may know Him- know the path that leads to His Pleasure as well as the affair of those who follow this path that leads to His (Pleasure and reward in this life and the next).

Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah (may Allah have mercy on him) said:

[Don’t Delay; Repent Soundly]

In his primer on Fiqh, The Jurist, al-Akhdharee [d. 983 AH], may Allah have mercy on him, said:

The conditions for repentance are as follows:

1. Sorrow about Whatever [Sin] was Committed

2. The Intention to Never Return to the Sin, for the Remainder of One’s Life

3. To Immediately Stop the Sin

It is impermissible to delay repentance and exert no effort (1) to return back to the obedience of Allah.

A lack of true effort to return to the obedience of Allah is a sign of misery, a sign that Allah has left the servant alone, and a sign that a Muslim’s [religious] insight has darkened and lost its light. (2)
_____

(1): [TN]: A Muslim must be honest and ask himself or herself: Am I truly/ really trying to return to the obedience of Allah?

(2): See “Explanation of al-Akhdharee’s Primer on Maalikee Fiqh”, by Shaykh Abdur-Rahmaan Ibn Awf Koonee, pp. 16-17.

Beneficial Taqwa (Reverential Fear) is Both in the Seen and the Unseen

Allah Almighty said: وَجَاءَ بِقَلْبٍ مُّنِيبٍ (And came with a heart turning in repentance) [Qaf: 33].

Al-‘Allāmah As-Sa'di (may Allah have mercy on him) said:

"This refers to being hidden from the eyes of people, and this is the true fear. As for fearing (Allah) in the presence of people, it may be for show or seeking reputation, and it does not indicate true fear. Indeed, the beneficial fear is the fear of Allah in both the unseen and the seen."

The Consequences of Worldly Attachment

Imam Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allah have mercy on him) said:

📚 [Ighathat al-Lahfan (58/1)].

Important Note: Alhamdulillah. Imam Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allah have mercy on him) is reminding us that chasing the worldly desires at the cost of the hereafter leads to worry, exhaustion, and regret. However loving the good and pure things in life like family, halal wealth, etc. is permissible, as long as it doesn’t become one’s main concern and distracts a person from the remembrance of Allah.
