A Delegate from Dire Dawa University Participated on an international event at CIHAM Bari Italy

An International event Facilitated CIHAM Bari Italy brought together representatives from incubators and business accelerators from 11 countries including Ethiopia. The delegate which included a winner start-up out of the seven start ups that went through the START-UP 10 project competition and received 3 months long mentorship support in the university’s Business and Technology Incubation Center.
The delegate had the opportunity to engage with leading Italian organizations in the sector and the main goal of this exchange was to identify concrete ways of cooperation to support innovative entrepreneurs and strengthen the entrepreneurial fabric of Mediterranean and African regions. The meeting emphasized the crucial role of Business Support Organizations (BSOs) in the development of innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystems, highlighting how these organizations can take on a new role in guiding and supporting international business partnership pathways, thereby promoting business growth in global markets.

Dire Dawa University celebrated the opening ceremony of the English Access Scholarship Program

On November 30, 2024, Dire Dawa University celebrated the opening ceremony of the English Access Scholarship Program, attended by over 90 participants, including university officials, American Embassy representatives, local public schools, and the families of nominated students. This two-year program, which runs from November 2024 to September 2026, will benefit 36 grade 9 students from six public schools.

In her opening remarks, Dr. Ubah Adem, President of Dire Dawa University, emphasized the program's objectives: to equip students with English language skills that will aid in their personal development, facilitate their university education, and encourage their involvement in national and global affairs. She urged parents to support their children's success and expressed gratitude to the American Embassy and the university's English Language Improvement Center for their contributions.

Dr. Megersa Kasim, Vice President of Academic Affairs, acknowledged the U.S. Embassy's financial support and assured attendees that the university would provide dedicated classrooms with necessary resources. He encouraged Access students to fully engage in their studies for the benefit of themselves and their communities.

Dr. Gena Rhoades, Regional English Language Officer at the American Embassy, expressed her pleasure at the program's launch and highlighted its importance in enhancing employability through English proficiency. She noted that students would also participate in activities aimed at developing leadership and problem-solving skills.

Mr. Nebil Mohammed, coordinator of the Access Program, outlined its objectives and encouraged parental involvement to ensure students complete the program successfully. Parents expressed gratitude for this opportunity.

The ceremony concluded with Dr. Ubah and Dr. Gena presenting scholarship certificates to the 36 Access students, marking a significant step towards their educational advancement.

As part of their tour of the university campus H.E Alejandro Estivill Castro, Mexican Ambassador to Ethiopia, H.E Al Busyra Basnur, Indonesian Ambassador to Ethiopia H.E Jung Kang, Republic of Korea Ambassador to Ethiopia, H.E Berk Baran, Turkiye Ambassador to Ethiopia and H.E Julia Niblett, Australian Ambassador to Ethiopia visited the university teaching hospital. Dr. Ubah Adem, president of the university and Dr. Hussen Mohammed led the visit and briefed the ambassadors the capacity of the hospital, various operational units status and the support needed.

The Ethiopian-Djibouti Females at Makerspace (EtD-FaM) Project International Workshop

The Ethiopian-Djibouti Females at Makerspace project international workshop conducted in Samara University. The project whose primary focus is empowering females students, researchers and SME leaders is run by a consortium of nine universities from Ethiopia, Djibouti, Germany, Italy and Austria and coordinated by Dire Dawa University.
Openinng remarks were done by Dr. Eba Mijena from the Ministry of Education, Dr. Mohammed Usman, President of Samara University, Delegate of Dr. Ubah Adem, President of Dire Dawa University and Dr. Fekadu Mitiku, President of Arsi University.

The international conference of the project with the motto “Empowering Hands, Empowering Minds” featured a series of insightful presetnations from various guests and a panel discussion on the importance of makerspace in realizing the universities transition to University of Applied Sciences and its contribution to enhance the ongoing university industry linkage.

International Delegates from project partners universities Prof. Dr.-Ing Tomas Benz, Workpackage Leader in the EtD-FaM project and Director of International Relations at Heilbronn University, Dr. Margareth Gfrerer, Education Scientist and External Evaluator for the EtD-FaM Project, Dr. Marwa Ben Ali, Senior Expert in the EtD-FaM Project from Free University of Bolzano, and Ms. Hannelore Schwabl, BITZ Fablab Manager at Free University of Bolzano were present.

It is set to continue today with presentations of various research papers and engaging discussion among the participants.

ተግባራዊ ስነምግባር ስራ ላይም ተጽዕኖ ያለው ሲሆን፣ ሞያዊ እና የስራ ስነምግባር ደሞ ሀላፊነት እንዲሰማን እንድሁም ለስኬት ያለምነውን ጉጉት ስለሚጨምር፣ ሁሉም ሰራተኞች ሊኖራቻዉ እንደምገባ አንስተዋል።

በተጨማሪም በሁሉም ዘርፎች ላይ ብልሹ አሰራርን ለመቀነስ፣ የደንበኞችን እርካታ ለመጨመር ስነምግባር ያለው ሰራተኛ ያስፈልጋልም ተብሏል።

በዩኒቨርሲቲው የአስተዳደርና ልማት ም/ፕሬዝዳንት ዶ/ር ሰለሞን ዘሪሁን በበኩላቸው ለሀገር ጠቃሚና ከስሜት ይልቅ በምክንያት የሚመሩ ተማሪዎች በማፍራት ጉዳት የሚያደርሱ አላስፈላጊ የሆኑ አለመግባባቶችን አስቀድሞ ለማስቀረትም የስብእና መገንቢያ ማንዋሉ ትልቅ ጠቀሜታ ይኖረዋል ሲሉ ተናግረዋል፡፡
ስልጠናው ላይ ንግግር ያደረጉት የተማሪዎች አገልግሎት ዲን አቶ ብዙነህ ጅማ፣ ለተማሪዎች አቅም ግንባታ የሚሆኑ ስልጠናዎች ላይ በቱክረት እንደምሰራ ተናግረዋል።

የስልጠናውን ዶክመንት ያቀረቡት የሳይኮሎጂ ዲፓርትመንት መምህር የሆኑት ረ/ፕሮፌሰር ዝናቤ ስዩም፣ ተማሪዎች ከሰው ጋር ያላቸውን ግንኙነት ለማጠናከር፣ ችግሮችን የመፍታት ብቃት እንዲኖራቸውና ራስን የመቻል እንድሁም ለስራ ብቁ የሚያደረግ መሆኑን ገልጸዋል። በተጨማሪም
ከሀረማያ እና ኮተቤ ዩንቨርስቲ ተጋብዘው የመጡ እንግዶች መ/ርት ሜሮን ግዛው እና ዶ/ር አለማው ክፍሌ የዶክመንት ግምገማ አድርገዋል።

ዛሬ ሐሙስ ጥቅምት 28/2017 ዓ.ም የድሬዳዋ ዩኒቨርሲቲ ኢንዱስትሪ ትስስርና ቴክኖሎጂ ሽግግር ዳይሬክቶሬት ባዘጋጀው ቀጠናዊ የኢንዱስትሪ ትብብር ፎረም ላይ በድሬዳዋ አስተዳደር ከሚገኙ አምራችና አገልግሎት ሰጪ ኢንዱስትሪዎች ጋር ዩኒቨርሲቲው በቀጣይ በጋራ አብሮ መስራት በሚያስቹሉት ጉዳዮች ላይ ትኩረቱን ያደረገ የኢንዱስትሪ ፎረም ተካሄደ፡፡

በፎረሙ ላይ የከፍተኛ ትምህርት፣ ቴክኒክና ሙያ ሥልጠና፣ የምርምር ተቋማት እና የኢንዱስትሪ ትስስር አዋጅ በአቶ ተሾመ ዳንኤል ከት/ት ሚኒስቴር እንዲሁም የኢንዱስትሪዎች የፍላጎት ዳሰሳ ጥናት እና ፕሮግራምን መሰረት ያደረገ የኢንዱስትሪ ማፒንግ ሪፖርት (Program Based Industry Mapping' and Industry demand Assessment Report) በዩኒቨርሲቲው የኢንዱስትሪ ትስስርና ቴክኖሎጂ ሽግግር ዳይሬክቶሬት ዳይሬክተር በሆኑት ዶ/ር እሸቱ መኮንን አማካኝነት ገለጻ ተደርጓል።

ከገለጻው በኋላ ዩኒቨርሲቲው እና በአስተዳደሩ የሚገኙ ኢንዱስትሪዎች በቀጣይ እንዴት ተቀራርበው መስራት እንዳለባቸው፣ የኢንዱትሪዎችን ውጤታማነት እና ተወዳዳሪነት በሚጎለብትበት ሂደት የድሬዳዋ ዩኒቨርሲቲ ምን ሚና መጫወት እንዳለበት እንዲሁም ዩኒቨርሲቲው እንደ አፕላይድ ሳይንስ ዩኒቨርሲቲነቱ የሚጠበቅበትን ኃላፊነት በአግባቡ እንዲወጣ ኢንዱስትሪዎች ምን እንደሚጠበቅባቸውና በሌሎች ተያያዥ ጉዳዮች ላይ የውይይት መድረክ ተካሂዷል። 

በመጨረሻም በእለቱ ጥሪ የተደረገላቸው የኢንዱስትሪ ተወካዮችና የዩኒቨርሲቲው መምህራን በዩኒቨርሲቲው የሚገኙ ቤተ-ሙከራዎችና ዎርክ-ሾፖች በመጎብኘት ፎረሙ በተሳካ ሁኔታ ተጠናቋል፡፡

በግንዛቤ ማስጨበጫ ስልጠናው ላይ ተገኝተው የመክፈቻ ንግግር ያደረጉት የዩኒቨርሲቲው አካዳሚክ ጉዳዮች ምክትል ፕሬዝዳንት የሆኑት ዶ/ር መገርሳ ቃሲም በንግግራቸው የ5 million Ethiopian coders የሃገር አቀፍ ተነሳሽነት መሆኑን እና አላማውም የአምስት ሚሊየን ዜጎችን የዲጅታል ሌትሬሲ አቅም በማጎልበት ሃገራችን የያዘችውን የዲጅታል ኢትዮጵያ 2025 እቅድ ለማሳካት እንደሆነ ገልጸው በዚሁ ስልጠና የቀረቡ ኮርሶችን ሁሉም የዩኒቨርስቲያችን ተማሪዎች እና መምህራን እንዲውስዱ ለማድረግ የኮሌጅ ዲኖች፣ የትምህርት ቤቶች ምክትል ዲኖች እና ትምህርት ክፍል ሃላፊዎች ሁኔታዎችን እንዲያመቻቹ መልዕክት አስተላልፈዋል፡፡

ስልጠናውን የሰጡት የe-learning ዳይሬክተር ዶ/ር ተስፉ ጌትዬ ሲሆኑ በስልጠናውም ለሁሉም አካዳሚክ ካውንስል አባላት እና ለተማሪ ተወካዮች በ5 million Ethiopian coders ፅንሰ ሃሳብ እና ኮርሶች፣ ለኮርሶቹ ለመመዝገብ እና ለመውሰድ የሚያስችሉ ሂደቶች እና ለተማሪዎች እና መምህራን ስልጠናውን እንዲወስዱ ለማድረግ የተዘጋጀ እቅድ እና አተገባበር ላይ ሰፋ ባለመልኩ አቅርበው ውይይት ተደርጎባቸዋል፡፡

በእለቱ ሁሉም የስልጠናው ተሳታፊዎች ተመዝግበዋል እንዲሁም ሁሉም ተማሪዎች እና መምህራን ለኮርሶቹ ለመመዝገብ ከጥቅምት 25/2017 እስከ ታህሳስ 19/2017 ዓ.ም እቅድ የተያዘ መሆኑን ተገልጿል፡፡

የምግብ ቁሳቁሶች ማከማቻ መጋዘኑን መርቀው በይፋ የከፈቱት የዩኒቨርሲቲው ፕሬዝዳንት ዶ/ር ኡባህ አደም በራስ አቅም የሚሠሩ ስራዎችን ማስፋት ተልዕኳችንን ለማሳካት ትልቅ እገዛ ያደርጉልናል፡፡
ያለንን ውስን ሀብት ተጠቅመን የተማሪዎችን አገልግሎት ለማሳደግ የተሠራው ሥራ የሚበረታታና ወደ ሌሎችም ዘርፎች ሊሠፋ የሚገባው ነው ሲሉ ተናግረዋል፡፡
በዚሁ የምረቃ ሰነ-ስርዓት ላይ የዩኒቨርሲቲው የአስተዳደር ልማት ም/ፕሬዝዳንት ዶ/ር ሰለሞን ዘሪሁን የምግብ ቁሳቁስ ማከማቻ መጋዘኖቹን ለመገንባት ከ9.6 ሚሊየን ብር በላይ ተገምቶ የነበረ ቢሆንም በራስ አቅም በተሠራው ስራ ከአንድ ሚሊየን ብር ባነሰ ዋጋ ሥራውን አጠናቆ ለአገልግሎት እንዲበቃ ማድረግ መቻሉን ተናግረዋል፡፡

እነዚህ በራስ አቅም የሚሠሩ ስራዎች በቀጣይ  በሁሉም ዘርፎች የሚቀጥሉ መሆኑንም ተናግረዋል።  በዚሁም በሥራው ላይ ቀጥተኛ ተሳትፎ ለነበራቸው ሠራተኞች የእውቅና የምስክርወረቀትና የማበረታቻ ሽልማት ተበርክቶላቸዋል፡፡

በዚሁ የምረቃ ስነ-ስርዓት ላይ በቀጣይ በተመሳሳይ መንገድ ለሚገነባው የተማሪዎች እንጀራ መጋገሪያ  እና ወፍጮ ቤት ግንባታ የማስጀመር ፕሮግራም ተከናውኗል።

Dire Dawa University and Texas Southern University, the USA, held partnership discussion:
=================================================== Dire Dawa University and Texas Southern University, Houston Texas, held partnership discussion. Delegates of Texas South University have visited Dire Dawa University and made productive discussion with the top leadership. The Vice-president, Dr. Megersa Kasim, welcomed the guests and briefed the university’s profile and the priorities for international partnership. The discussion mainly focused on academic and research collaboration among the two universities including but not limited to mobility of staff and students, joint programs between the two universities, projects of mutual interest based on the community challenge in the region and the country. Accordingly, the two universities will shortly sign MoU and commence collaborative works.

Dire Dawa University Signs Memorandum of Understanding with Heilbronn University, German, to cooperate on academic and research areas of mutual interest. The signed agreement provides the framework to partnership on the areas of:
(1) Exchange of faculty members and administrative staff
(2) Exchange of undergraduate and master students
(3) Exchange of research results, academic materials, publications, and other academic data
(4) Arrangement of research activities, seminars and symposia

Dire Dawa University, represented by its president Dr. Ubah Adem and Heilbronn university represented by its vice president for Internationalization Prof. Dr. Ruth Fleuchaus and Prof. Dr.-Ing Tomas Benz have signed on the MoU document. It is to be noted that the two universities have joint on going European Union funded grant project.

UK: Chevening Scholarships: Information session held at Dire Dawa University

Dire Dawa University in collaboration with the UK Embassy in Ethiopia held info-session focused on the Chevening scholarship. The team from the UK embassy presented briefing about the chevening scholarship program regarding the application, selection and approval process of the program for Dire Dawa University staff and prospective graduating class students. The two Chevening alumni, Chaltu and Suad, also joined the session via zoom from the UK and shared their experience and tips on how to win to the attendees. UK visa related criteria and how applicants can make earlier preparation were also part of the discussion and follow up QandA by the participants.
