Luftwaffe ace Franz von Werra and his lion cub Simba who was his squadron's mascot. During the Battle of Britian in 1940, von Werra was shot down and captured. The British sent him to a new POW camp in Canada early 1941. He escaped and eventually made his way back to Germany. Von Werra flew again for Operation Barbarossa and was one of the few who earned Ace status on both the Western and Eastern Front. His plane's engine malfunctioned on a test run and crash landed in the North Sea late 1941. His body was never found.

This was a huge learning curve, and I cannot wait to create more in this series!
Made from a piece of dressed NZ pine (which I believe acts differently to overseas pine wood!)

There's so much joy in "bad weather" sometimes. Every single time we have high winds, the ravens are out playing in the air. It's one of my favorite things that I get to see. They fly really high up in the sky just above where the wind is blowing and they spread their wings and appear to be kind of like surfing on the winds, letting the wind carry them around freely. Every so often free falling down towards the ground at high speed and other aerial acrobatics like flips and twists. Sometimes pairs do synchronized flying, but that usually happens in Spring. They normally live in bonded pairs and are territorial to other ravens other than their mate and babies but during this type of weather, I often see them gathering in large groups to play together. One time recently, my daughter and I counted over 20 ravens together high up in the air above our house playing on the winds. It was magical.🖤🥰

"He found two logs upon the strand,
laying lifeless close at hand.
He stood above them powerful and fair,
and looked upon the pitiful pair.
Odin exhaled Und divine,
giving life where once none lie.
The two then stood upon the sand,
and Odin clothed the shabby band.
Man and Woman then took their place,
and came forth from them the human race."

"She had always loved that time of year. The November evenings had a sweet taste of expectation, peace and silence.

And she loved most of all the quiet of her house when the rain fell softly outside.

She made her tea with orange spice, and reread with joy her book, which reminded her of her childhood."

The MORE of us doing crafts with our hands, the BETTER. We need each and every person creating something, bringing something artful and creative to this world. I encourage women I don't even know to make patterns. The Ornament lives on. How do women fight the system? Why of course, by doing what we have ALWAYS done. CREATE.

All of the stories my husband and I know about our ancestors are strictly the result of years of genealogical research. None of it was known to our families so we never knew about any of it as we were growing up. I'm so glad we are able to provide our children with a different experience than what we had. An experience where they know the glories and the history of their blood line so they never have to feel weak, alone, or out of place in the world. I encourage everyone to do the same and research your family lines if you were like us and weren't taught about it growing up. The erasure of ancestral history is highly dis-empowering for a person and it happens to be one of our enemy's favorite tricks. You do not have to live with that if you don't want to. 🤍

...fought Indians, befriended Squanto, organized and attended the first Thanksgiving in America, fought and died on both sides of the American Civil War, fought the Mexicans, fought the French, fought in every American war up to Korea, came west in covered wagons, and were the first white settlers in Iowa. They passed all those wild and amazing legacies on to us here today and for that, we know we are very blessed.🤍💫

Last night as we invited the ancestors into our house to feast with us, my son, who is 10 started to name the various deeds of all his ancestors. We all joined in naming more and here's some of what was said...
Our ancestors sailed on the Mayflower, killed Atila the Hun, conquered England, went raiding, navigated every ocean, cleared the path for Americans to go westward into Kentucky, were horse theives and counterfeiters, came west for the gold rush, were mariners, forest wardens, teachers, doctors, farmers, hunters, trackers, shop owners, judges, and revrends. Were Deacons, doctors, and lawmen at Plymouth Colony, fought in the American Revolution, died in the American Revolution protecting George Washington, answered the call from William Wallace to fight against England, fought at Culloden, brought the flax industry to Scotland, were friends of Charles Darwin's, were branded rebels by Christian kings and queens, were branded religious extremists for their kind of Christianity, (continued)

Some pictures I took of the Moon last night. My poor excuse for a camera didn't do this scene justice at all. The whole sky was lit up like it was morning at 10pm. While I was taking the pictures, I watched a black bear walking by down the street and I heard an owl hooting in some nearby trees. It's definitely the October Full Moon. 🖤💀🦉
