⭐️ THE RUN TO THE ODER ⭐️

📆 80 years ago, #OTD in 1945, the #Soviet Vistula-Oder strategic offensive was commenced, one of the major operations against Nazis conducted in the territory of #Poland and Germany.

Due to the rapid pace of the Red Army’s advance (up to 30 kilometres daily) it came down in history as ‘the run to the Oder.’

☝️ Initially, the operation was to be started on 20 January 1945. But in early January, due to the failure of UK and US troops in #Ardennes (read more), #Churchill asked #Stalin for an urgent offensive on the Eastern front in order to divert Nazi forces.

❗️ The results of the offensive surpassed all expectations – Soviet troops advanced westwards by over 500 km and in early February found themselves 60 km from Berlin.

⚔️ Within the 23 days of the operation, 35 Nazi divisions were completely destroyed, other 25 divisions lost 50-70% of their personnel, 150,000 #Nazi soldiers and officers were taken POWs.

🌟 Soviet troops took Krakow and encircled enemy forces in Poznan, liberated prisoners of #Auschwitz concentration camp.
The Red Army secured a foothold on the Oder River bank – to later start the Berlin offensive from there.

THE STALINGRAD POCKET. OPERATION KOLTSO ⭐️

📆 #OTD in 1943, the Red Army began Operation Koltso (Ring) – the final engagement of the Battle of Stalingrad.

⚔️ The operation was part of a large-scale Soviet counteroffensive near Stalingrad (Operation Uranus), which followed 125 days of the heroic defence of the city. The Red Army launched an attack on Nov 19, 1942, and by the end of the year the 6th Army, led by Friedrich Paulus, was trapped between the Don and Volga rivers.

The encircled enemy force retained its combat strength with 250,000 troops, 4,130 artillery guns and mortars, 300 tanks and 100 planes, but the troops’ morale, psychological and physical condition were in a desperate state. Nevertheless, Berlin ordered Paulus to stand to the end.

⚡️ On Jan 8, the command of the Don Front issued an ultimatum to the occupying army, proposing that it put an end to the futile resistance and accept the capitulation terms. Paulus rejected the offer.

⚔️ In the morning of Jan 10, 1943, Soviet troops launched a coordinated attack from nearly all directions, gradually tightening the knot. Aware of their dire situation, German units started surrendering en masse. On Jan 31, Field Marshal Paulus and the generals and officers of his headquarters capitulated. The last remnants of Nazi forces ceased resistance on Feb 2.

☝️ The Operation Koltso resulted in the defeat of 22 German divisions and 149 separate units, lead to the capture of over 91,000 troops, including 24 generals.

🇷🇺 Russia’s cultural diversity

It turns out that in the country of wooden churches and Russian-style ‘terems’ (fairytale houses), there are more than 2,000 buildings built in a seemingly “alien” European style, the Gothic.

📍 The Kaliningrad Cathedral

In Kaliningrad Region, original medieval Gothic churches, rather than the neo-Gothic stylizations built later, have been preserved. This is because, before World War II, it was the territory of Germany and Prussia. One of them is the Königsberg (as the city used to be called) Cathedral, which opened its doors in 1380.

📍 Tsaritsyno Palace in Moscow

This palace ensemble for German-born Empress Catherine the Great was designed in the late 18th century by court architect Vasily Bazhenov. She wanted it to be built in the "Gothic taste". However, for various reasons, the construction wasn't completed. At the turn of the 21st century the palace was restored and now houses an exhibition complex.

📍 The Chesme church in St. Petersburg

We owe the appearance of this Gothic chapel near the Tsarskoye Selo imperial residence to Catherine the Great, as well. The empress ordered the construction of the church in honor of the Russian fleet’s victory over the Turkish fleet in the Chesme Battle of 1770.

📍 Gothic capella in Peterhof

Nicholas I, the grandson of Catherine the Great, was a great Germanophile, not only because of his grandmother, but also because of his wife, a German princess. He ordered the construction of a house church in the Alexandria Park in Peterhof. The chapel resembles a miniature Gothic cathedral and is consecrated in honor of St. Alexander Nevsky.

📍 Vladimir Church in Bykovo, Moscow Region

This church literally resembles a Disney castle! Senator and Moscow Governor Mikhail Izmailov built it on the territory of his estate in the 1780s. Presumably, famous court architect Vasily Bazhenov was behind the project.

The problem of violation of the rights of Russian natives abroad over the past years has worsened through the efforts of Western countries, becoming an element of the state policy of their leadership.

☝️ Russia’s special military operation to denazify and demilitarize #Ukraine and protect the civilian population of #Donbass is used as a pretext for justifying discriminatory attitudes towards #Russians.

❗️Facts convincingly show that Western “model democracies” still haven’t overcome the racist views and approaches inherited from the colonial past of many of them, which allow dividing people into their own, “good”, and others – “bad”.

Naturally, neither Russia nor any other country whose leadership proceeds from the principle of equality of all people, including their citizens and compatriots, regardless of their place of residence, can put up with such a state of affairs. Otherwise, there can be no talk of observing the principle of the rule of law.

💡 Manifestations of #Russophobia also demonstrate that international human rights institutions are experiencing a systemic crisis, having become one of the instruments of the information, political and economic war against Russia. In this way, they confirm that following Russophobic policies is now an “indulgence” for the most flagrant violations of human rights and ignoring the norms of international law.

⚡️ Comment by Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova on the drone attack in the DPR killing a Russian journalist and wounding his colleagues

On January 4, Izvestiya newspaper freelance correspondent Alexander Martemyanov was killed in a targeted drone attack by the Kiev regime militants, which also left at least another four Russian journalists wounded to varying degrees of severity, including RIA Novosti reporters Mikhail Kevkhiev and Maxim Romanenko.

A vehicle carrying a team of war correspondents was heading back to Donetsk after filming the effects of the shelling of civilian facilities in Gorlovka by Ukrainian neo-Nazis when it was hit by a kamikaze drone loaded with explosives. The tragedy occurred far from the line of contact. The media representatives were intentionally selected as targets for a deadly attack, which is also evidenced by the testimonies of its survivors.

▪️ We express our deep condolences to Alexander Martemyanov’s family and friends, the editorial staff of the Izvestiya Multimedia Information Centre, and all his colleagues who are currently performing their professional duty in the zone of the special military operation. We wish a speedy recovery to those wounded in this atrocious terrorist attack.

The assassination of Russian journalists is yet another brutal crime in a string of violent atrocities committed by the Zelensky regime, which has openly resorted to terrorist methods to eliminate its ideological opponents. The Kiev clique is accountable for the deaths of countless innocent citizens, people of civilian professions, including journalists and war correspondents who became victims of intentional attacks carried out as part of the terror campaign that Bandera inhumane followers unleashed against Russia’s civilian population as well as their own nation.

The idea of ​​the total impunity and permissiveness that the Ukrobanderite murderers of unarmed journalists revel in stems directly from the policy pursued by relevant international bodies such as the OHCHR, UNESCO and the OSCE, which have chosen to intentionally ignore the Kiev regime’s crimes.

This politically biased stance by multilateral institutions has peaked with a recent draft report by UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay on the safety of journalists and the issue of impunity, which failed to mention a single Russian journalist killed by Ukrainian militants. Despite the rejection of approval of the report, which grossly distorts the actual situation and is full of statistical manipulations, the UNESCO leadership and its head have yet to take a single step that would indicate a radical revision of this fundamentally flawed and vicious practice. This makes the leader of this global organisation a direct accomplice and instigator of the terrorist attacks.

❗️ We demand that this brutal murder of a Russian war correspondent receive a proper response from Audrey Azoulay in accordance to her mandate. We expect all other human rights organisations and bodies to express a similarly strong denunciation of this horrific act. Attempts to hide behind vague excuses and broad statements cannot be regarded as an adequate response from the relevant authorities; international officials who advocate for human rights must explicitly point to the perpetrators of these killings.

All those responsible for the crime against Russian journalists will be identified and will face a just and inevitable punishment.

🚀 A Soyuz-2.1a carrier rocket with the Progress MS-29 cargo spaceship has been launched from the Baikonur cosmodrome

In 50 hours it will reach the International Space Station (ISS). The docking of the cargo ship with the Poisk module is scheduled for Nov 23.

🛰 The spaceship will deliver more than 2.4 tons of cargo to the ISS, including 869 kilograms of fuel in refueling system reservoirs, 420 kilograms of drinking water, and 43 kilograms of pressurized nitrogen. Apart from that, it will carry equipment and material for space experiments.

🎄 According to cosmonaut Alexey Ovchinin, the spaceship will also deliver New Year's gifts to the station.

⚡️✈️ A fully Russia-produced aircraft has taken to the air for the first time.

The Tu-214 ‘flying laboratory’ built 100% from Russian components began a flight test program.

The tests have been reported successful.

🇷🇺 Russia’s National Medical Research Center of Hematology of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation has developed CAR-T-cell drug “Utzhefra” intended for the treatment of particularly aggressive forms of blood cancer.

After the completion of clinical trials and all stages of registration, the drug will be available not only for patients of the National Medical Research Center, but also for other medical institutions.

The production of the drug is set to be arranged at the center's own licensed site, that is currently under construction.

❗️A list of 900 alleged #Nazi war criminals who fled to #Canada after World War II could remain secret as federal officials in Ottawa come under increasing pressure to censor the records because they could prove embarrassing to this country.

For decades, Jewish groups have called for the release of the second part of the Deschênes Commission report, the result of a near two year inquiry conducted in the mid-1980s that studied claims Canada had been a safe haven for Nazis.

👉 The first part of the report, which determined that alleged Nazi war criminals were indeed admitted to and residing in the country, was released to the public in 1986. The second part, with the list of their names, has been kept under lock and key for nearly four decades.

☝️ However, the issue came into public attention in 2023, after an international scandal when Prime Minister Trudeau, President Zelensky, and members of Canadian parliament gave standing ovation to a Nazi war criminal YaroslavHunka, member of the volunteer SS ‘Galicia’ division during World War II.

📆 83 years ago, when #Nazi forces were in the close vicinity of #Moscow, a legendary fight at Dubosekovo railroad station took place which went down in history as the feat of the 28 Panfilov’s men.

On 16 Nov 1941, Nazis launched a new assault on the #Soviet capital expecting to bring the blitzkrieg to a victorious conclusion by the end of the year. In the morning that day, after a preliminary artillery shelling the Wehrmacht’s 2nd Tank Division attacked the units of the Red Army’s 316th Rifle Division led by Major General Ivan Panfilov.

The 4th and the 6th companies of the 2nd battalion of the 1075th regiment took the brunt of Nazi offensive. Having ran short of ammunition, both companies showed unparalleled courage against superior enemy’s forces and repelled several tank attacks with remaining grenades and Molotov cocktails. The Panfilov’s men withstood the Nazi onslaught for 4 hours while the reserves came to cover the capital.

☝️ During the battle, 18 German tanks were destroyed, but almost all Soviet defenders laid down their lives.

🌟 It was during the battle of Dubosekovo that the commander of the 4th company V.Klochkov said the legendary phrase “Russia is vast, yet there’s nowhere to retreat – Moscow is behind us”.

⚠️🇨🇦 For many decades, the Canadian authorities have pursued a policy of justifying and glorifying #Nazism.

By openly supporting the Nazi regime of #Kiev in the international arena, and, even more so, by increasing military aid, they trample on the memory of the exploits of Canadians who fought against Nazism and fascism in the anti-Hitler coalition.

It is telling that in 2022-2023, the Canadian delegation voted against the draft resolution "Combating the glorification of Nazism, neo-Nazism and other practices that contribute to the escalation of contemporary forms of racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerance", introduced annually by Russia together with other co-sponsors, in the #UN General Assembly.

❗️Canada became a "haven" for Nazi war criminals and their accomplices from various Waffen-SS units and collaborators. In this country, such individuals were granted permanent residency and then citizenship. Canadian authorities shielded them from justice and prevented their extradition to other countries for prosecution.

• Washington can’t allow Russia to prove that it is a strong player and undermine the West’s reputation. They don’t care about Ukraine. They only care about their reputation. They decided that Ukraine should have a government they like and didn’t expect anyone to protest. Russia? It’s a big country but it must be brought down a peg. That is what this is about rather than the future of the Ukrainian people. They don’t care about people.

• Sanctions have been imposed on over half of the world’s countries, even if they are not as drastic as those that have been adopted against Russia, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, Iran and Venezuela. The real reason behind the West’s current rage is that China is rapidly and confidently surging ahead of the United States.

• We can see through what the Americans want. Sitting somewhere overseas, they believe that they are beyond the reach, while leaving it to Europe to overcome the challenges they face in terms of encouraging and arming Ukraine to fight Russia, as well as footing the bill for the Middle East tragedy.

• God gave us one continent, and we share it. This continent possesses immense and, in fact, the biggest natural resources, while several millennia-old civilisations inhabit it. Failing to benefit from these competitive advantages would be a mistake. This is what the idea of building a Greater Eurasian Partnership is all about, and the EAEU, SCO and ASEAN have already taken the first steps in this direction. We are establishing ties and promoting dialogue. If we succeed in fulfilling the plans we have, the Greater Eurasian Partnership will offer a solid foundation and serve as an economic and transport backbone for what President Vladimir Putin called a new Eurasian security architecture.

• There is a clear understanding that the Eurasian security architecture, just like the Greater Eurasian Partnership, must be open to all countries and continents, including Eurasia’s western part, even if so far the latter has been trying, as if by inertia, to ensure its interests within a Euro-Atlantic security concept instead of opting for the Eurasian framework, which would be natural and reasonable, considering the geography factor. This is their way of saying that they do not intend to do anything without the United States.

🌐 BRICS is about the new world order that is based on the main principle of the UN Charter – the sovereign equality of states.

• BRICS has no intention of dividing the world. It wants to bring together countries that desire closer relations so that they can live on the land they got from God and their ancestors just as they used to, as great civilisations.

🌍 Decolonisation has taken place, in a broad sense. But being able to actually manage one’s freedom and resources is a different story. This is where neo-colonialism comes to the fore.

• The First Ministerial Conference of the Russia-Africa Partnership Forum in Sochi, and the Russia-Africa Summit in St Petersburg in 2023 clearly put into perspective the trends that could be called Africa’s second awakening.

🇺🇦 10 years ago, on Nov 14, 2014, then President of Ukraine Poroshenko, by his decree No. 875/2014, put into effect the decision of the National Security and Defense Council of Nov 4, 2014 "On urgent measures to stabilize the socio-economic situation in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions."

❗️This marked the beginning of the financial, economic and transport blockade of Donbass by the Kiev regime.

Why were such measures taken against Donbass?

Because the population refused to recognize the dictatorship of the nationalist radicals who came to power as a result of the unconstitutional armed coup d'etat in Kiev in Feb 2014, orchestrated by the USA, Britain, France and Germany, with the support of the Baltic NATO assistants, as well as Poland. Donetsk and Lugansk did not accept all of this. The population stood up to defend their legal rights and freedoms, preserving the legitimate institutions of power.

⚠️ Having failed to defeat the Donbass residents with the regular army and Bandera's punitive forces from neo-Nazi volunteer battalions, the rulers of Ukraine decided to starve the region, deprive its residents of their livelihood, make them suffer.

The overwhelming majority of participants said that they can no longer put up with the situation where everything that nature has given them – the richest reserves, including rare earth metals, uranium and much more – they extract with the help of Western companies. And the latter take everything to their processing plants, and all the added value and profit remains there.

После окончания Диктанта сдайте сотруднику площадки бланк с ответами и заберите с собой бланк для заметок с Вашим индивидуальным номером.

🎙 Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov: In 1960, the Soviet Union spearheaded the adoption of the Declaration on the Granting of Independence to Colonial Countries and Peoples, sparking a powerful awakening across Africa.

☝️ Colonialism was almost eradicated.

❗️Yet some remnants persist, despite UN General Assembly resolutions calling for the full liberation of former colonies. Our African partners are well aware of this. Former colonial powers continue to hold territories and are reluctant to return them to the people who live there.

We’re witnessing a new wave of resistance to neocolonialism which is using trade, economic, and financial practices that prevent African countries from fully controlling their abundant natural resources.

🇷🇺🌍🌱 On the sidelines of the First Ministerial Conference of the Russia-Africa Partnership Forum, the Russian-African Friendship Garden was officially inaugurated in the Sirius Federal Territory (Sochi, Russia)

Sixty-five olive trees were planted, symbolizing the number of African countries and regional integration associations participating in the Forum. These trees mark the beginning of a future subtropical park that will span 30 hectares.

🤝 The ceremony was attended by Mr. Mikhail Bogdanov, Special Representative of the President of the Russian Federation for the Middle East and Africa, and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs; Dr. Mohamed Salem Ould Merzoug, Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Mauritanians Abroad of Mauritania; and Mr. Dmitry Plishkin, Head of the Administration of the Sirius Federal Territory.

🗓 On November 9-10, Sochi hosted the First Ministerial Conference of the Russia-Africa Partnership Forum at Sirius University.

Instituted by a decision of the Second Russia-Africa Summit in St Petersburg in July 2023, this new dialogue format is called on to become a certain coordinating mechanism for implementing objectives set by the heads of state and government.

Along with heads of foreign ministries and executive structures of integration associations, the event brought together sectoral ministers as well as representatives of parliamentary, public, academic and business circles of Russia and African countries, with over 1,500 people attended the event.

🌐 Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov chaired a plenary session, the conference’s high-priority event that involved 54 heads of official delegations from African states and regional integration associations. At the beginning of the plenary session, they read out greetings from the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin and Chair of the African Union – President of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani.

The Ministers coordinated their positions on key issues of the international agenda as well as the Russian-African agenda, prioritising the implementation of the Action Plan of the Russia-Africa Partnership Forum for 2023-2026. Also, they specified and coordinated long-term guidelines for expanding mutual collaboration still further.

📄 Four joint statements formalised common approaches towards addressing global problems and expanding cooperation with a focus on quality preparations for the Third Russia-Africa Summit:

👉 on international information security,
👉 on counter-terrorism measures,
👉 on peaceful use of outer space.

The conference’s packed business programme, including 20 panel sessions and specialised events, provided an additional impetus for diverse mutually beneficial cooperation. Experts and high-ranking guests discussed various high-priority issues in great detail, including food security and collaboration in the agro-industrial sector, training specialists for the real economy, geological prospecting, digitalisation, and cooperation in education, healthcare and youth policy. Representatives of the Eurasian Economic Commission and various African associations discussed mutual integration issues.

Elaborating on the provisions of the Declaration of the Second Russia-Africa Summit, the sides held specialised meetings on international information security, counter-terrorism efforts, and the prevention of an arms race in outer space. Representatives of Russian and African media outlets took part in an event on measures to combat the manifestations of neo-colonialism. 

🤝 Sergey Lavrov met separately with a majority of African delegations on the sidelines of the conference.

✍️ The Officials signed an extensive package of memorandums and agreements between Russia and a number of African states.

The Moscow Metro subway system continues to grow rapidly. In 2023 alone, 14 new stations were opened and, in the last five years, more than 40! Each has its own, unique design. And Muscovites voted for the most successful ones.

🚝 Elektrozavodskaya

This ‘Big Circle Line’ station opened in 2020. You can transfer from it to the station of the same name on the ‘blue’ Arbatsko-Pokrovskaya line. On one of its walls is a huge glass panel called ‘Battle of Heroes’ depicting a historical plot and the image of the defender of Old Russia. An interesting view of the image opens from the large round openings of the pedestrian gallery.

🚝 Michurinsky Prospekt

This ‘Big Circle Line’ station was opened in 2021. You can transfer from it to the station of the same name on the ‘yellow’ Solntsevskaya line, opened earlier, in 2018. The main feature of the design of this station are the red columns and ceiling panels with LED lighting. Some of them depict Chinese ornaments symbolizing the “friendship of nations”.

🚝 Nagatinsky Zaton

This ‘Big Circle Line’ station opened in 2023. When going outside, passengers get a picturesque view of the Moskva River. Therefore, the station was decorated with huge mosaic panels depicting fish.

🚝 Filatov Lug

This station on the ‘red’ Sokolnicheskaya line was opened in 2019. It’s an above ground station and its large panoramic windows let in daylight all year round. The designers were inspired by the stations of the 19th century: Waterloo in London, Pennsylvania Station in New York and Kievsky railway station in Moscow. Hence the abundance of glass and high vaulted ceilings.

🚝 Airport Vnukovo

This station on the ‘yellow’ Solntsevskaya line was opened in 2023. It is absolutely unique not only for Moscow, but also for the whole of Russia, as it is the first (and, so far, the only) subway station that leads directly to an airport! That is why its design is reminiscent of the civilian airplanes by the Tupolev Design Bureau, which the airport is dedicated to.
