According to the newspaper, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko will release "numerous political prisoners, including high-profile figures."

"In exchange, the United States would ease sanctions on Belarusian banks and potash exports, a key ingredient in fertilizers, of which Belarus is a major producer," NYT writes.

The newspaper reports that this was revealed during a closed meeting by U.S. diplomat Christopher Smith, who recently met with Lukashenko as Deputy Assistant Secretary of State under Rubio. Smith was handed over three prisoners: one American and two Belarusians.

The goal of this detente, Smith said, is "to give Mr. Lukashenko some respite from Russia's influence."

The White House National Security Council did not respond to a request for comment, nor did a Kremlin representative.

Saudi authorities have invited representatives from the US, Russia, and Ukraine to a gathering in Riyadh. Negotiating Teams
National Security Adviser Michael Waltz and Special Envoy Steve Witkoff are expected to lead the US negotiations in Saudi Arabia. This raises questions about the role of Special Representative Keith Kellogg.

Putin is assembling a team of heavyweights with decades of experience in high-level strategic negotiations. Among them is Yuri Ushakov, the Kremlin's chief foreign policy adviser with 50 years of diplomatic experience, and his top intelligence officer Sergei Naryshkin, who served with Putin in the Soviet KGB. Kirill Dmitriev, a financier with a Stanford and Harvard education and ties to the Russian president’s family, may play a key role as an unofficial intermediary in Trump's negotiations.

The admiral died as befits a true hereditary officer and true captain — together with his sinking ship, when he was on board the battleship "Petropavlovsk," which struck a Japanese mine. Streets, settlements, universities, and, of course, many ships bear Makarov's name.

▪️ Russian troops captured 18 Ukrainian soldiers west of the recently liberated Kurakhovo in the DPR, the Ministry of Defense reported;
