A TVT realized its dream for transformation with nearly a dozen enterprises

Aleta Wondo Polytechnic College in the Sidama region has accomplished achievements in TVT entrepreneurialization thanks to the EDI-led SEED program in collaboration with the Mastercard Foundation.

The college

•  Established 10 new businesses: including a cafe , laundry, bakery, and printing center.

•  Created an incubation center: Supporting student entrepreneurs.
•  Inspired staff to become entrepreneurs themselves.

•  Become an invaluable resource for other TVTs in the area.

In addition to creating jobs, these businesses have started generating revenue. EDI provided expert guidance, training, and mentorship, demonstrating how innovation and entrepreneurship can transform institutions and communities.

An information session for Digital Skill Window applicants to implement Component 2 of the Education and Skills for Employability (EASE) Project, under the Ministry of Labor and Skills, was successfully held at the EDI Headquarters.

The discussions provided crucial clarity on the project's objectives.

Dr. Hassen Hussien, General Director of the Entrepreneurship Development Institute (EDI), made an official visit to Arsi University, where he was warmly welcomed by university officials, including Dr. Mustefa Bati, the Academic Vice-President and President's Representative.

During his visit, Dr. Hassen shared valuable insights and experiences with the university's managing councils. He highlighted the success stories of EDI, particularly in the realms of innovation and creativity. Dr. Hassen emphasized the importance of generating income as a means to implement strategic plans aimed at achieving institutional visions.

The meeting fostered a fruitful dialogue on potential areas of collaboration especially in tot training, capacity building and entrepreneur between EDI and Arsi University.

Following the discussions, Dr. Hassen and his team toured the TOMATO Project Incubation Center and the modern dairy farm at Arsi University, gaining firsthand insight into the university's innovative initiatives.

The visit marks a significant step towards enhancing partnerships that promote entrepreneurship and development in Ethiopia. Both parties expressed optimism about future collaborations that could benefit students and the wider community.

The Entrepreneurship Development Institute (EDI) participated in the 4th Annual Continental Convention of the Young Women of Africa, held at the African Union Headquarters in Addis Ababa, on December 2024. The event, organized in collaboration with the Ethiopian Medical Women's Association and other partners, brought together young women from across Africa to discuss the theme "Encouraging Gender-Sensitive Leadership to Promote Innovation and Economic Empowerment to Unlock Opportunities for Young Women in Africa.

Massive Youth Entrepreneurship Training launched in Amhara Region

The Entrepreneurship Development Institute (EDI) in collaboration with the Amhara Region Bureau of Labor and Training (BoLT), has launched a transformative two-day Youth Entrepreneurship Training (YET) initiative across the region.

This ambitious program aims to equip 60,000 youth and women with essential entrepreneurial skills through 1,250 training sessions held in 42 Cluster Polytechnique TVETs. The training seeks to empower participants to establish and manage their own enterprises, contributing to sustainable economic development.

To further support these ventures, the regional government has committed to providing access to working spaces, ensuring an environment conducive to innovation and growth. In a groundbreaking effort, EDI and BoLT are also working to formalize 1,500 enterprises in a single day.

This initiative aligns with the SEED program's overarching goal of creating one million dignified jobs, underscoring the commitment of regional stakeholders to foster economic opportunities for youth and women in Ethiopia.

A groundbreaking initiative by the Ministry of Labor and Skills, Oromia Regional Administration, Entrepreneurship Development Institute, and the Mastercard Foundation SEED Program has begun to empower one million women in the region.

A two-day, blended training program, themed “Fueling a Million Dreams, Shaping a Brighter Future,” kicked off on December 17th, 2024. This program aims to reach over 100 participants per Kebele, with the goal of establishing individual businesses or SMEs across 7,283 kebeles in the region.

The training is designed to provide women with the essential tools and knowledge to launch and scale successful enterprises. Key topics include business planning, financial management, and marketing.

Beyond the initial training, participants will receive ongoing support, including access to finance, workspace, and business development services. This comprehensive approach empowers women to overcome barriers, achieve sustainable economic growth, and contribute to the region’s prosperity.

This nationwide mass entrepreneurship training program will extend to other regions and city administrations across Ethiopia, inspiring and empowering women nationwide.

የኢንተርፕረነርሺፕ ልማት ኢኒስቲትዩት ሀገራዊ የልማት አቅጣጫውን የሚደግፉ የኢንተርፕረነርሺፕ ስልጠናዎችን በተለያዩ ክልሎች እየተሰጠ ነው፡፡

በኦሮሚያ ክልል ብቻ ባለፉት ሁለት ቀናት ከ129 ሺ በላይ የሚሆኑ ወጣቶች የኢንትርፕሪነርሽፕ ስልጠና አግኝተዋል፡፡

በኢንተርፕሪነርሺፕ ልማት ኢንስቲትዩት የሚተገበረው የሲድ ፕሮግራም አማካኝነት በኦሮሚያ ክልል ከክልሉ የሥራና ክህሎት ቢሮ ጋር በመተባባር የወጣቶች የኢንተርፕረነርሺፕ ስልጠና ከህዳር 24 ጀምሮ ለሁለት ቀናት ሲሰጥ ቆይቷል፡፡

በክልሉ ከሁሉም ወረዳዎች እና ቀበሌዎች የተውጣጡ 129,814 ወጣቶች የኢንትርፕረነርሺፕ ስልጠናውን ካገኙ በኃላ መደራጀት የፈለጉት በኢንትርፕራይዝ ተደራጅተው አሊያም በግል ቢዝነስ ለሚጀምሩ የተለያዩ ድጋፉችን እንደሚያገኙም በስልጠናው ወቅት ተገልፃል፡፡

የኦሮሚያ የሥራና ክህሎት ምክትል ቢሮ ኃላፊ አቶ ሃብታሙ ካሳ እንደተናገሩት ከስልጠና በኃላ የማምረቻና የመሸጫ ቦታዎችን እንዲሁም የእርሻ መሬቶችን በማመቻቸት በቅርቡ የቁልፍና የካርታ ማስረከብ ስራ ይከናወናል፡፡

ወጣቶች ከስልጠናው ባሻገር የብድር እና የማሽነሪ ሊዝ እንዲያገኙ በቅንጅት ከአበዳሪ ተቋማት እና ከሚመለከታቸው ባለድረሻ አካለት ጋር እየሰራን ነው ያሉት አቶ ሃብታሙ ይህንን ለማሳካት ንቅናቄው በክልሉ ባሉ ዞኖች በምክትል አስተዳዳሪዎች በከተሞች ደግሞ በምክትል ከንቲባዎች እየተመሩ ይገኛሉ፡፡

የኢንተርፕረነርሺፕ ልማት ኢንስቲትዩት በክልሉ ባለፉት ወራት ብቻ ለ12,504 ሞዴል አርሶ አደሮች እና ከ400 በላይ ለሚሆኑ በኮንስትራክሽን ዘርፍ ለተሰማሩ አከላት የኢንተርፕረነርሺፕ ስልጠና መስጠቱን ኢንስቲትዩት ምክትል ዋና ዳይሬክተር አቶ ቦሩ ሻና ገልፀዋል፡፡

በኢንስቲትዩት የሚተገበረው የሲድ ፕሮግራም በመላ ሃገሪቱ በተመረጡ 100 የቴክኒክና ሙያ ኮሌጂች አማካኝነት ለአንድ ሚሊዩን ወጣቶች ሥራ እንዲፈጥሩ እያገዘ የሚገኝ ነው ያሉት አቶ ቦሩ ይህንን ለማሳካት የኢትዮጵያ አቪዬሽን ዩንቨርስቲ የኮሌጅ አመራሮችን በማብቃት፣ የአሜሪካን ቴክኖሎጂ ኮሌጅ የገቢያ ትስስርና ዲጂታል ማርኬት ስልጠናዎችን በመስጠት፣ ኦርቢት ሄልዝ አዳዲስ ሥራ ፈጣሪዎችን (ኢኖቪተሮችን) በማገዝ እና ሆፕ ኢንተርፕራይዝ የክህሎት ስልጠና በመስጠት በቅንጅት እየሰሩ ነው ብለዋል፡፡

አሁን ላይ ከ10ሺ በላይ ሞዴል ነጋዴዎች የኢንተርፕረነርሺፕ ስልጠና እየተሰጣቸው መሆኑን የኢንስቲትዩቱ የኦሮሚያ ክልል አስተባባሪ አቶ ዳባ ሾሮ ተናግረዋል፡፡
ለሥራና ክህሎት ሚኒስቴር ተጠሪ የሆነው የኢንተርፕረነርሺፕ ልማት ኢንስቲትዩት ለተለያዩ የህብረተሰብ ክፍሎች የሚሆኑ የስልጠና ፓኬጆችን ቀርጾ በየክልሎች ተግባራዊ እያደረገ ይገኛል፡፡

በየደረጃው የሚገኙ አመራሮች ለሥራ ፈጠራ ስነ-ምህዳሩ ምቹ ሁኔታ እንዲፈጥሩ እና ፈጠራን ተጠቅመው በፍጥነት ምርታማነትን እንዲያረጋግጡ የፐብሊክ ኢንተርፕረነርሺፕ ስልጠና እንዲወስዱ እየተደረገ ይገኛል፡፡

አቶ ቦሩ ሻና እንደገለጹት፤ ሀገራዊ የልማት አቅጣጫውን የሚደግፉ የኢንተርፕረነርሺፕ ስልጠናዎች በተለያዩ ክልሎችም እየተሰጡ ይገኛሉ፡፡ ይህም እንደ ሀገር የተያዘውን ሰፊና ጥራት ያለው የሥራ ዕድል ለመፍጠር እና ምርትና ምርታማነት ለማሳደግ የሚደረገውን ጥረት በእጅጉ የሚያግዝ ነው፡፡

የሥራና ክህሎት ሚኒስትር ሙፈሪያት ካሚል
በዚሁ ወቅት እንደገለጹት መንግስት በመላ ሀገሪቱ የተጀመረውን የብልፅግና ጉዞ እውን ለማድረግ ትኩረት ሰጥቶ እየሰራ ነው።

የእውደጥናቱ ዋና ዓላማም በክልሉ ያለውን የተፈጥሮ ሃብት በቴክኖሎጂ በማስደገፍ የኢንተርፕርነርሺፕ ልማቱን ስኬታማ ለማድረግ ያለመ መሆኑን ተናግረዋል።

ክልሉ ለግብርና፣ ለኢንዱስትሪ፣ ለማዕድንና ለቱሪዝም ልማት ያለውን ሰፊ አቅም በመጠቀም የህዝቡን ሁለንተናዊ ተጠቃሚነት ለማረጋገጥ የአመራሩ ቁርጠኝነት አስፈላጊ መሆኑን ገልፀዋል።

ተቋማዊ የለውጥ ሥራዎችን ለማጠናከርና ምርታማነትን በላቀ ደረጃ ለማረጋገጥ የአመራሩን የመፈፀምና የማስፈፀም አቅም ማጎልበት እንደሚገባም ተናግረዋል።

በመሆኑም ሚኒስቴሩ የአመራሩን የመፈፀምና የማስፈፀም አቅም ለማጎልበት እና ለኢንተርፕርነርሺፕና ለኢኖቬሽን ስነ ምህዳር ግንባታ የጀመራቸውን የድጋፍና የክትትል ሥራዎች አጠናክሮ እንደሚቀጥልም አረጋግጠዋል።

በምክትል ርዕሰ መስተዳድር ማዕረግ የጋምቤላ ክልል ርዕሰ መስተዳድር ወይዘሮ አለሚቱ ኡሞድ በበኩላቸው፣ ሀገራዊ ለውጡን ተከትሎ በከፍተኛ ትኩረት እየተሰራባቸው ካሉ መካከል ለዜጎች የሥራ ዕድል መፍጠር አንዱ ነው።

በተለይ በሀገር በቀል የኢኮኖሚ ግንባታ ውስጥ ሴቶችንና ወጣቶችን ያሳተፈ የልማት ሥራዎችን ለማከናወን በትኩረት እየተሰራ መሆኑን ተናግረዋል።

በዚህም ከአነስተኛ ወደ መካከለኛ ኢንዱስትሪ የተሸጋገሩ ሥራ ፈጣሪዎችን ቁጥር ከማሳደግ ባለፈ ለሌሎች ዜግችም የሥራ እድል የሚፈጥሩበት ሁኔታ እየተሻሻለ መምጣቱን ተናግረዋል።

አውደጥናቱ የሥራ ዕድል ፈጠራው በአካባቢያዊ የተፈጥሮ ሃብት ላይ የተመሠሰረተ እንዲሆንና ዜጎች ቀጣይነት ባለው መልኩ ተጠቃሚ እንዲሆኑ ከማድረግ አኳያ የአመራሩን ሚና የሚያጎለብት መሆኑን አስረድተዋል።

የክልሉ ሥራና ክህሎት ቢሮ ኃላፊ አቶ ሯች በየክ በዚሁ ጊዜ እንዳሉት፣ በክልሉ ክህሎት መር የሥራ ዕድል ፈጠራን ለማስፋት ትኩረት ተሰጥቶ እየተሰራ ነው።

በዛሬው ዕለት ለክልሉ ከፍተኛ አመራሮች እየተሰጠ ያለው የአቅም ግንባታ አውደጥናት ይህንኑ ተግባር የበለጠ የሚያጠናክር መሆኑን ገልፀዋል።

አውደጥናቱ የስራና ክህሎት ሚኒስቴር ከጋምቤላ ክልል ሥራና ክህሎት ቢሮ የጋራ በመተባበር የተዘጋጀ መሆኑ ተመላክቷል።

Ethiopia Inaugurates Global Entrepreneurship Week to Boost Innovation and Economic Progress

Addis Ababa, November 18, 2024 – The Entrepreneurship Development Institute, in partnership with the Ministry of Labor and Skills, officially launched the Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW) under the theme “Entrepreneurship is for every one.”

Hon. Muferihat Kamil, Minister of Labor and Skills, underscored the pivotal role of entrepreneurship in utilizing untapped resources and fostering a knowledge-based economy. She reaffirmed the ministry’s dedication to cultivating a conducive environment for entrepreneurs and promoting inclusive development. Key initiatives, including district-level innovation competitions and the “Semer Camp” program, have supported over 3,000 entrepreneurs in showcasing their innovations and preparing for market entry.

The guest of honor, Dr. Belete Molla, Minister of Innovation and Technology, highlighted the significance of technology-driven entrepreneurship for sustainable economic growth and called for the establishment of supportive policies to further enable this sector.

Dr. Hussen Hassen, Director General of the Entrepreneurship Development Institute, noted that ongoing efforts have begun to show promising results, including the empowerment of technical and vocational institutions to generate independent revenue.

The GEW Ethiopia is set to be celebrated from November 18-27, 2024, with exhibitions, panel discussions, and various events aimed at advancing entrepreneurship nationwide.

Global Entrepreneurship Week 2024: A National Celebration of Innovation and Inclusion in Ethiopia

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW) 2024, a prominent global initiative dedicated to fostering innovation and empowering entrepreneurs, will be celebrated in Ethiopia from November 18 to November 27. Organized by the Entrepreneurship Development Institute (EDI) in collaboration with the Ministry of Labor and Skills (MoLS), GEW 2024 aims to promote inclusivity within the entrepreneurial ecosystem under the theme, "Entrepreneurship is for Everyone." This theme underscores the importance of providing opportunities and resources to entrepreneurs from all backgrounds, ensuring equitable access to the tools needed for success.

The week-long celebration will feature a diverse array of events designed to engage participants from all sectors of Ethiopia’s entrepreneurial community. These events will include high-level policy discussions, training sessions, exhibitions, recognition, and networking opportunities. The Entrepreneurship Development Institute (EDI) proudly participated in the 5th National Career Expo, organized by Dereja.com in partnership with the Ministry of Labor and Skills, the Mastercard Foundation, and EthioJobs. Held at the Millennium Hall in Addis Ababa from November 6-7, this year’s expo aimed to connect 30,000 graduates with 300 employers across various industries, strengthening career pathways for Ethiopia's youth.

This two-day event is part of a broader initiative by Dereja, the Mastercard Foundation, and EthioJobs, which has successfully linked over 90,000 graduates to employment opportunities over the past five years. EDI’s participation highlighted its dedication to supporting Ethiopia’s entrepreneurial ecosystem and providing attendees with information on its comprehensive entrepreneurship support programs.

The safeguarding training, developed by the MasterCard Foundation, is being delivered to the EDI Management staff today. This training is designed to enhance staff understanding of safeguarding principles and practices, ensuring they are well-equipped to handle sensitive issues and uphold the highest standards of safety and protection within their roles.

EDI Launches Mandatory Safeguarding Training to Foster Safe and Inclusive Workplace

The Entrepreneurship Development Institute (EDI) has reaffirmed its dedication to a safe and inclusive working environment by introducing a mandatory two-day safeguarding training program for all staff members.

This comprehensive training aims to equip employees with the necessary knowledge, skills, and awareness to effectively prevent and respond to safeguarding issues.

The training underscores EDI's safeguarding policies and procedures while emphasizing staff members' legal and ethical obligations to maintain a respectful and secure workplace.

This initiative reflects EDI's commitment to fostering a culture of respect, dignity, and safety, ensuring that staff are well-prepared to address and manage safeguarding concerns. Through this program, EDI continues to strengthen its supportive and cohesive community.

Participants had the opportunity to pitch their business ideas, create prototypes, and develop three designs. At the conclusion of the program, attendees received certificates of participation and pledged to utilize Business Development Services (BDS), including accessing loans and support services.

Dr. Hassan Hussain, CEO of EDI, remarked at the opening ceremony that entrepreneurs are defined by their resilience in transforming challenges into opportunities. Engineer Eba Gerba, Head of the Oromia Job Creation and Vocational Bureau, commended the entrepreneurs for bringing innovative ideas aimed at addressing societal issues throughout the region.

EDI and Oromia Job Creation Vocational Bureau Host Successful Entrepreneurial Bootcamp in Addis Ababa

The Entrepreneurship Development Institute (EDI), in partnership with the Oromia Job Creation and Vocational Bureau, organized an eight-day Bootcamp aimed at fostering entrepreneurship within the region. The event, held at EDI’s headquarters in Addis Ababa, attracted over 85 participants, including individuals with disabilities, who attended the Basic Design Your Venture (DYV) Training Workshop.

As part of the comprehensive Bootcamp program, participants visited Steely Rim PLC, a steel factory in Bishoftu, gaining practical insights into industrial operations. The workshop also featured a Story Night event at EDI’s NEST Café, where entrepreneurs shared inspiring experiences.

They had the opportunity to engage with the Foundation's leadership team and high-level government officials, including HE Muferihat Kamil.

SEED Program Youth Make Their Voices Heard EDI, through its SEED program, participated in the Mastercard Foundation's Second National Youth Advisory Group Summit, held at the Haile Grand Hotel on October 24th and 25th, 2024.

The EDI SEED program youth participants, from Tigray, Sidama, Amhara, Oromiya and Central Ethiopia regions, actively contributed to the Mastercard Foundation's Second National Youth Advisory Group Summit.

The summit, themed "Unite & Ignite: From Consultation to Driving Impact," brought together over 170 young people from various Mastercard Foundation programs, partner representatives, and the Foundation's Ethiopia Country team, aimed to strengthen the voices of young people and to empower them to drive positive change in their communities.. The summit provided a platform for young people to share their experiences, challenges, and achievements.
