Ibn Al-Qayyim said Surah Al-Fatiha provides a cure for the heart and a cure for the body. It comprises of the cure for the heart in the most complete and perfect way.

The corruption of the heart comes from two things: the corruption of knowledge and the corrupt intention.

Misguidance is the result of the corruption of knowledge. Hatred is the result of the corruption of his intention in a person’s actions.

Allaah says in Surah Al-Fatiha: “Guide us to the straight path”.

This verse provides the cure for the diseases of misguidance.
When we say: “You alone we worship and you alone we ask for guidance” this verse necessitates knowledge of Allaah and implementing actions.

𝐀 𝐖𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐀𝐠𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐭 𝐒𝐮𝐬𝐩𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐨𝐧, 𝐒𝐩𝐲𝐢𝐧𝐠, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐁𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐛𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠

‎By Shaykh Dr. Muḥammad bin Ghālib al-ʿUmarī [

‎𝗔𝗹𝗹 𝗽𝗿𝗮𝗶𝘀𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗱𝘂𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗔𝗹𝗹𝗮̄𝗵…

‎Among the harmful traits is spying and prying into people’s private matters. Our Lord, Glorified and Exalted is He, says:

‎“𝗢 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝗯𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗲𝘃𝗲! 𝗔𝘃𝗼𝗶𝗱 𝗺𝘂𝗰𝗵 𝘀𝘂𝘀𝗽𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗼𝗻; 𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝘀𝘂𝘀𝗽𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘀𝗶𝗻𝘀. 𝗔𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝗽𝘆 𝗻𝗼𝘁, 𝗻𝗲𝗶𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗯𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿.” [Sūrah al-Ḥujurāt: 12]

‎And our Prophet ﷺ also warned:

‎“𝘽𝙚𝙬𝙖𝙧𝙚 𝙤𝙛 𝙨𝙪𝙨𝙥𝙞𝙘𝙞𝙤𝙣, 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙨𝙪𝙨𝙥𝙞𝙘𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙞𝙨 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙢𝙤𝙨𝙩 𝙛𝙖𝙡𝙨𝙚 𝙤𝙛 𝙨𝙥𝙚𝙚𝙘𝙝. 𝘿𝙤 𝙣𝙤𝙩 𝙨𝙥𝙮, 𝙣𝙤𝙧 𝙗𝙚 𝙞𝙣𝙦𝙪𝙞𝙨𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙚 𝙖𝙗𝙤𝙪𝙩 𝙤𝙣𝙚 𝙖𝙣𝙤𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧’𝙨 𝙖𝙛𝙛𝙖𝙞𝙧𝙨. 𝘽𝙚 𝙗𝙧𝙤𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙨 𝙖𝙨 𝙨𝙚𝙧𝙫𝙖𝙣𝙩𝙨 𝙤𝙛 𝘼𝙡𝙡𝙖̄𝙝.”

‎In another narration, [the Prophet ﷺ said]:

‎“𝙊 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙬𝙝𝙤 𝙝𝙖𝙫𝙚 𝙗𝙚𝙡𝙞𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙙 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙩𝙤𝙣𝙜𝙪𝙚𝙨 𝙗𝙪𝙩 𝙛𝙖𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙝𝙖𝙨 𝙣𝙤𝙩 𝙮𝙚𝙩 𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙚𝙙 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙝𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙩𝙨! 𝘿𝙤 𝙣𝙤𝙩 𝙗𝙖𝙘𝙠𝙗𝙞𝙩𝙚 𝙈𝙪𝙨𝙡𝙞𝙢𝙨 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙙𝙤 𝙣𝙤𝙩 𝙥𝙪𝙧𝙨𝙪𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙞𝙧 𝙛𝙖𝙪𝙡𝙩𝙨. 𝙒𝙝𝙤𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧 𝙥𝙪𝙧𝙨𝙪𝙚𝙨 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙛𝙖𝙪𝙡𝙩𝙨 𝙤𝙛 𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙈𝙪𝙨𝙡𝙞𝙢 𝙗𝙧𝙤𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧, 𝘼𝙡𝙡𝙖̄𝙝 𝙬𝙞𝙡𝙡 𝙥𝙪𝙧𝙨𝙪𝙚 𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙛𝙖𝙪𝙡𝙩𝙨. 𝘼𝙣𝙙 𝙬𝙝𝙤𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙨’ 𝙛𝙖𝙪𝙡𝙩𝙨 𝘼𝙡𝙡𝙖̄𝙝 𝙥𝙚𝙧𝙨𝙪𝙚𝙨, 𝙃𝙚 𝙬𝙞𝙡𝙡 𝙙𝙞𝙨𝙜𝙧𝙖𝙘𝙚 𝙝𝙞𝙢 𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙣 𝙞𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙥𝙧𝙞𝙫𝙖𝙘𝙮 𝙤𝙛 𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙤𝙬𝙣 𝙝𝙤𝙢𝙚.”

‎[An example of this is] when ʿUmar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb, may Allāh be pleased with him, was walking with ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn ʿAwf near a house with its door shut. ʿUmar asked, “𝙒𝙝𝙤𝙨𝙚 𝙝𝙤𝙪𝙨𝙚 𝙞𝙨 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙨?” ʿAbd al-Raḥmān replied, “𝙄𝙩 𝙗𝙚𝙡𝙤𝙣𝙜𝙨 𝙩𝙤 𝙍𝙖𝙗𝙞̄’ 𝙞𝙗𝙣 𝙐𝙢𝙖𝙮𝙮𝙖𝙝 𝙞𝙗𝙣 𝙆𝙝𝙖𝙡𝙖𝙛, 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙮 𝙖𝙧𝙚 𝙙𝙧𝙞𝙣𝙠𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙖𝙡𝙘𝙤𝙝𝙤𝙡 𝙞𝙣𝙨𝙞𝙙𝙚.” ʿUmar then remarked, “𝙄 𝙨𝙚𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙬𝙚 𝙝𝙖𝙫𝙚 𝙛𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙚𝙣 𝙞𝙣𝙩𝙤 𝙨𝙥𝙮𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝘼𝙡𝙡𝙖̄𝙝, 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙈𝙤𝙨𝙩 𝙃𝙞𝙜𝙝 𝙨𝙖𝙞𝙙, ‘𝘿𝙤 𝙣𝙤𝙩 𝙨𝙥𝙮,’” and he left [without pursuing the matter further].

‎The tendency of a person to be overly concerned with knowing the private details of others’ lives is a clear sign that they are neglecting self-accountability. Instead, they are preoccupied with others’ affairs. The Prophet ﷺ stated:

‎“𝙋𝙖𝙧𝙩 𝙤𝙛 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙥𝙚𝙧𝙛𝙚𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙤𝙛 𝙖 𝙥𝙚𝙧𝙨𝙤𝙣’𝙨 𝙄𝙨𝙡𝙖̄𝙢 𝙞𝙨 𝙩𝙤 𝙡𝙚𝙖𝙫𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙬𝙝𝙞𝙘𝙝 𝙙𝙤𝙚𝙨 𝙣𝙤𝙩 𝙘𝙤𝙣𝙘𝙚𝙧𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙢.”

‎One’s priority should be to work on their own self-improvement and uprightness. This is a personal obligation. Not chasing after the faults and private matters of others. Does such a person not fear the words of the Prophet ﷺ:

‎“𝙒𝙝𝙤𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧 𝙥𝙪𝙧𝙨𝙪𝙚𝙨 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙛𝙖𝙪𝙡𝙩𝙨 𝙤𝙛 𝙖 𝙈𝙪𝙨𝙡𝙞𝙢, 𝘼𝙡𝙡𝙖̄𝙝 𝙬𝙞𝙡𝙡 𝙥𝙪𝙧𝙨𝙪𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙞𝙧 𝙛𝙖𝙪𝙡𝙩𝙨.”
‎By Allāh, this is a severe threat!

‎Thus, it is incumbent upon every person to:

‎𝟏. Focus on striving for self-improvement and rectifying [their own shortcomings], then thereafter advise others [with sincerity].

‎𝟐. Repent sincerely to Allāh, the Glorified and Exalted, for such actions and seek His forgiveness.

‎𝟑. Cultivate good thoughts about others and avoid harboring unwarranted suspicions, as this is among the blameworthy traits of character.

‎May Allāh protect us all from slips in words and actions.

💎[Powerful Advice from a Nurturing Scholar: Avoid Anything that Causes Worry, Sadness, & Distress]

Shaykh Ibn Uthaymeen (may Allah have mercy on him) said:

“Strive to distance yourself from anything that brings worry, sorrow, or distress so that you may always remain at ease, with a content and open heart, focused on Allah, His worship, and your worldly and spiritual affairs. If you practice this, you will find relief. However, if you burden yourself with regret over the past or excessive concern for the future in a way not sanctioned by Islamic teachings, know that you will exhaust yourself and miss out on much goodness.”

🫀THE HEART IS THE KING OF THE BODY

🗣️The Prophet (صلى الله عليه و سلم) said:

"There lies within the body a piece of flesh. If it is sound, the whole body is sound; and if it is corrupt, the whole body is corrupt. Indeed, this is the heart."

📖
Collected by Bukharī (no.52) and Muslim (no.1599)

🗣️Ibn Rajab commented upon this hadīth saying:

"For this reason, it is said that the heart is the king of the body parts, and the other limbs and body parts are its soldiers. So they are soldiers who are obedient to him, they are dispatched in his obedience, and they implement his commands. They do not oppose him in any of this. If the king is upright, then his soldiers will be upright; and if he is corrupt, then his soldiers will similarly be corrupt."

💎[Mind Your Own Business!]

Shaykh Abdul Aziz Al-Salman (رحمه الله) said:

“Among the virtues of Islam is that a person does not interfere in what does not concern him. This is one of the concise, comprehensive sayings of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, as mentioned in the hadith: ‘Part of the excellence of a person’s Islam is leaving what does not concern him.’ Some have taken this and expressed it in the phrase: ‘Mind your own business.’

If Muslims adhered to the guidance and advice of their Prophet ﷺ, they would find peace and bring peace to others. If you were to trace most problems, disputes, conflicts, and arguments, you would find that their sole cause is interference in matters that do not concern one.”

Question 180: What is the ruling on moving to a different location after praying the obligatory prayer in the masjid to establish the Sunnah prayer, the optional prayer?

Then the sunnah is to separate between the obligatory prayer, the faridah, and the voluntary prayers, the nafila, either by changing location, by moving, or by speaking. Due to the hadith of the Prophet ﷺ, the authentic hadith:

‏عن معاوية بن أبي سفيان:

فإن رسول الله ﷺ أَمَرَنَا بذلكَ؛ أَنْ لا تُوصَلَ صَلَاةٌ بصَلَاةٍ حتَّى نَتَكَلَّمَ،
أَوْ نَخْرُجَ

📕 صحيح مسلم

“The Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded us to do this, that one prayer should not be joined to another directly until we speak or leave to another place.”

Al-Hafidh ibn Hajar (رحمه الله تعالى) said, “The sunnah is to separate between the obligatory prayer, the faridah, and the nafila, the optional prayer, either by changing location, by moving, or by speaking.”

And as mentioned by Shaykh Ibn Uthaymeen

— it is best for a person to go and pray the supererogatory prayer, the optional prayer, in their home.

— or, if not, then they should move to another place within the masjid.

And the supererogatory prayer, it is better to pray it in the house. Why? Because we know the hadith of the Prophet ﷺ:

عن زيد بن ثابت رضي الله عنه:

فَإِنَّ أَفْضَلَ الصَّلَاةِ صلاة الْمَرْءِ فِي بَيْتِهِ إِلَّا الصَّلَاةَ الْمَكْتُوبَة

📕 أخرجه البخاري (7290)

“The best prayer of a person is the prayer in the home except for the obligatory prayer.”

So the sunnah is to separate between the obligatory and the optional prayers either by changing location, moving, or by speaking. So, the very least is to speak — the very least is for a person to speak.

The wisdom behind this, as mentioned by Ahlul-‘Ilm, is so that the obligatory prayer is not connected to the voluntary prayers. So that they do not become confused with one another, as mentioned by Shaykh Ibn Uthaymeen and others before him. Other scholars mention, like we find in Awn al-Ma’bud, the explanation of Sunan Abi Dawood. Some of the scholars, they mention that the wisdom of this is to maximize the number of places where the individual is prostrates.

Wallahu a’lam. And Allah knows best. But as we mentioned, it is established from the sunnah of the Prophet ﷺ to separate between the obligatory and voluntary prayers either by changing location, by moving, or by speaking based upon the hadith of the Prophet ﷺ. This is something that is recommended.

[Any Opinion Opposing the Sunnah is Ignorance, Not Knowledge]

“The righteous predecessors used to call those whose opinions opposed the Sunnah and what the Messenger—ﷺ—brought, in matters of report-based knowledge and practical rulings, as ‘people of doubts and desires.’ This is because an opinion that opposes the Sunnah is ignorance, not knowledge, and desire, not religion. Such a person is among those who follow their desires without guidance from Allah and follow their desires without knowledge, leading ultimately to misguidance in this world and misery in the Hereafter.”

🌴Patience, Perseverance, and Complaining to Allāh Alone

👤Imām ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Nāṣir al-Saʿdī (d. 1391 AH) said:

[There is a great lesson derived from the story of Yūsuf عليه السلام] when we examine the magnanimous test that Allāh subjected His prophet and chosen, sincere friend Yaʿqūb (عليه السلام) to. Allāh ordained separation between him and Yūsuf (عليه السلام) for a term that most likely spanned thirty years or more.

This deduction is reached because he likely spent, prior to imprisonment, seven to ten years or around this span in the house of al-ʿAzīz. This is only in the way of seeking an estimation of the period in question. Then he spent several years in prison and most scholars postulate this term to be seven years. After he was exonerated, he spent another seven years that corresponds [1] to the years of abundant produce. Altogether, this is twenty-one years. This was followed by the seven barren, unproductive years in which the brothers of Yūsuf (عليه السلام) returned to him repeatedly. What is most apparent from these meetings is that they [i.e. Yaʿqūb and Yūsuf (عليهما السلام)] only united at the very end. The full period, therefore, would be close to approximately thirty years.

In this entire period, sadness and depression never left his [Yaʿqūb’s عليه السلام] heart. In fact, he would weep continuously to the extent that his eyes turned white from extreme grief. He lost his eyesight completely.

However, he remained upon steadfast patience concerning the order of Allāh, expectant of a reward from Him. For he promised to remain patient and he undoubtedly fulfilled this oath.

This, in no way, contradicts his saying:

قَالَ إِنَّمَا أَشْكُو بَثِّي وَحُزْنِي إِلَى اللَّهِ

“He said, “I only complain of my suffering and my grief to Allāh”
[Yūsuf, 12:86]

For, truly, complaining to Allāh alone does not invalidate patience. Rather, patience is invalidated through complaining to the creation.[2]

📝
[1]Translator note: Reference to the term mentioned in the verse:

وَقَالَ لِلَّذِي ظَنَّ أَنَّهُ نَاجٍ مِّنْهُمَا اذْكُرْنِي عِندَ رَبِّكَ فَأَنسَاهُ الشَّيْطَانُ ذِكْرَ رَبِّهِ فَلَبِثَ فِي السِّجْنِ بِضْعَ سِنِينَ

And he said to the one whom he knew would go free, “Mention me before your master.” But Satan made him forget the mention [to] his master, and Joseph remained in prison several years. [Yūsuf, 12:42]

The term ‘بضع’ as in the verse refers to any term from 3-10 years.

❝These types of imported customs and hairstyles are from the influence of shayṭān upon the human being. It is (considered) changing the creation of Allāh (سبحانه وتعالى) in addition to distorting the natural features and form of the human being.

*Allāh, (سبحانه وتعالى), has created the human in the best of statures. However shayṭān deceives them and (makes them) change their appearance to that which is repulsive.*❞

🗣 *The questioner asked*: As-Salām ʿalaykum wa raḥmatullāhi wa barakātuhu.

Ḥayyāk Allāh Our Shaykh, May Allāh (سبحانه وتعالى) bless you.

If you would, lately, many of the youth have fashioned their hair in the manner shown in the picture below this message. Is this manner of styling one’s hair permissible?

Likewise, what is your advice to these individus and their parents? May Allāh (سبحانه وتعالى) reward you and grant you good. Āmīn”

🌴𝐒𝐚𝐟𝐞𝐠𝐮𝐚𝐫𝐝 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐑𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐢𝐨𝐧.

👤By Shaykh Dr. Muhammad bin Ghālib al-'Umari [

“A student of knowledge must take care of his knowledge as he would take care of his wealth, or even more so, because knowledge is an act of worship. Therefore, it is essential to give it proper attention and preservation.

One should not expose their knowledge to flawed understandings, nor expose their mind to reading [books] of falsehood, nor should they lend their ears to discordant sounds that distance them from their religion, weaken their īmān [faith], or lead them to intellectual confusion and flawed beliefs, which could disrupt their matters of īmān.

A person should preserve their knowledge, for knowledge is part of īmān. What a person acquires of knowledge is a form of worship dedicated to Allāh, the Mighty & Exalted.

Thus, if someone possesses wealth, would they leave it out on the streets? If they had valuable belongings, would they expose them to everyone? If they had a child, would they abandon their child just like that, without care or protection?

Your knowledge is one of the greatest means of drawing closer to Allāh, the Mighty & Exalted. Therefore, do not expose your knowledge to the words of just any speaker, nor to the reading of just any book.

Fortify and protect your knowledge, safeguard it, and preserve it.”

🕯️Strong Believer & Weak Believer

From Abu Hurairah – Radi Allaahu anhu – the Prophet -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- said:

المؤمن القوي خير وأحب إلى الله من المؤمن الضعيف وفي كل خير احرص على ما ينفعك واستعن بالله ولا تعجز وإن أصابك شيء فلا تقل لو أني فعلت كذا لكان كذا وكذا ولكن قل قدر الله وما شاء فعل فإن لو تفتح عمل الشيطان

The strong believer is good and more beloved to Allaah than the weak believer, be dedicated to that which will benefit you, and seek aid from Allaah and do not weaken. Even though you are afflicted by what you are afflicted with. Do not say ‘if only I had done such and such it would have been such and such.’ But rather say Qadr Allaah and whatever He wills will happen, since ‘if’ opens the door to the action of the Shaytaan.’

💎[Loving The Worldly Life Causes Misguidance]

🖊️ Ibn al Qayyim (d. 751 AH) said:

كُلُّ مَن آثَرَ الدُّنيا مِنْ أَهْلِ العِلْمِ وَاسْتَحَبَّهَا؛ فَلَا بُدَّ أَنْ يَقُولَ عَلَى اللَّهِ غَيْرَ الحَقِّ؛ فِي فَتْوَاهُ وَحُكْمِهِ، فِي خَبَرِهِ وَإِلْزَامِهِ؛

“Everyone among the people of knowledge who prefers this worldly life and loves it must inevitably speak untruths about Allah—whether in their legal rulings and judgments, or in what they report and obligate.

This is because the rulings of the Lord, Glorified be He, often come contrary to people's desires, especially those of the people of leadership and those who follow their lusts.”

‎This heart fluctuates in six realms, and there is no seventh. The heart fluctuates in six realms, with no seventh.

👤‎Imam Ibn Al-Qayyim said in 'Al-Fawā’id':

‎‘The heart has six realms where it roams, and there is no seventh.

‎Three of them are lowly, and three are lofty.

‎𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗼𝘄𝗹𝘆 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗺𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲:
♦️The worldly life that beautifies itself for the heart;
♦️A self that speaks to it, and;

‎𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝗹𝗼𝗳𝘁𝘆 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗺𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲:

🔹Reason [& rationality] that guides it, and;
🔹A deity whom the heart worships, glorified and exalted is He.’

‎And hearts roam in these realms. Therefore, examine your heart, is it in the lower or the higher realms? Is it selling its religion for a fleeting gain of this world?
‎Is it in the higher realms during these roaming, or is it in the lower ones?”
