From the Methodology of Salaf is accepting advice and returning to the truth.
Abū Nuʿaym narrates in al Ḥilyah (6/9) and Ḥāfidh Ibn Hajr in Tahdhīb al Tahdhīb (7/7) regarding ʿUbaydullāh bin Ḥasan al ʿAnbarī (d. 168H) one of the chiefs of the people of Basra from its jurist and scholars and was a judge.
His student ʿAbd ar-Raḥmān bin Mahdī said:
“We were at a funeral and I asked him concerning a issue and he erred regarding it.
So I said to him whilst being a youth at that time “𝐌𝐚𝐲 𝐀𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐡 𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐟𝐲 𝐲𝐨𝐮, 𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐢𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐚𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐬𝐚𝐲. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐫𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐬 𝐬𝐮𝐜𝐡 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐬𝐮𝐜𝐡.”
He remained silent for a hour then he raised his head and said “𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐫𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐛𝐨𝐲, 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐈 𝐲𝐢𝐞𝐥𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐈 𝐚𝐦 𝐡𝐮𝐦𝐛𝐥𝐞𝐝, 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐢𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐦𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐈 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐛𝐞 𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐥 𝐞𝐧𝐝 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐭𝐡 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐝 𝐨𝐟 𝐟𝐚𝐥𝐬𝐞𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐝.”

‎🔹Some youth who want positions in daʿwah but aren’t given them become upset.
Consequently, they end up becoming envious of those who have these positions, not recognising how much of a trial it is.
They spread lies about them, picking out all their faults under the guise of “How can he teach when he makes mistakes?” They dislike it when these students are praised for their efforts, while they offer little to no advice to their brothers in these positions whom they criticise.
Yet, they rarely reflect upon the possibility that this negative reaction from them has come about due to their want, desire and love for positions of authority and leadership.

‎Al-Fuḍayl ibn ʿIyyāḍ رَحِمَهُ الله said:

‎“There is no one who loves to have positions of authority except that he envies, acts unjustly, pursues the faults of the people, and hates that anyone is mentioned with good.”

‎[Jāmiʿ al-Bayān al-ʿIlm wa Faḍlihi (no. 971)]

‎May Allāh protect us from misguidance.
