In the war simulations carried out by the British after the war, it was seen that the German attack on Moscow would end in victory. So why was Stalingrad attacked?

If we look at the tactical dimension, Moscow had to be occupied first, but the lack of oil in the German army caused this situation to give up Moscow for that period. The battle of Stalingrad could have been won. If there were Germans instead of Romanians or Italians in the wings, fate might have been drawn differently.
