Replica of Athagur inscription installed in honour of a dog unveiled in Mandya.
Athagur inscription:
The Athagur inscription is carved on a hero stone dated to the 10th Century CE and was installed in honour of a dog called Kali, which belonged to Butuga II, who was a vassal of a Rashtrakuta king.
According to the inscription, the dog helped one of the deputies of Butuga II called Manalera or Manaralata in the war against the Cholas.
Pleased with its services, Manalera sought it as a gift from Butuga II in return for his services in the war.
Later, when Manalera was on a hunt, the dog died in a fight with a wild boar.
In its honour, a hero stone was installed in front of the Challeshwara temple at Athagur.
The inscription refers to the battle and the sequence of events besides the name of the dog and is one of its kind.

Tributes to spiritual leader and social reformer Sant Sevalal Maharaj on his birth anniversary.
Sant Sevalal Maharaj was born on 15th Feb 1739, at Surgondankoppa, Shivamogga district of Karnataka.
He is considered a social reformer and spiritual teacher of the Banjara community.
He travelled across the country with his Ladeniya Troup to serve especially the forest dwellers and nomadic tribes.
Due to his extraordinary knowledge, excellent skills and spiritual background in Ayurveda and Naturopathy, he was able to dispel and eradicate myths and superstitions prevalent in the tribal communities and brought about reforms in their way of life.
In states like Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh, Sant Sevalal Maharaj is a revered symbol of every Banjara family.

Popularly known for his #Nityotsava, a poem composed about Karnataka.
He also was the chairperson of the Karnataka Sahitya Academy (1984-87).
He has been recipient of several awards such as Rajyotsava Award (1981), Nadoja Award (2003), Padma Shri (2008), Kempegowda Award, and Pampa Award (2017).
His compositions:
1. America, America: The poet calls out America for its superiority complex and critiques its role in impacting other nations in order to maintain such superiority.
2. Nimmodaniddoo nimmantagade (To be with you, yet not be like you; 1960) : Expression of his angst about the unhealthy competition amongst Kannada poets in the 1960s. He bemoans religious and caste discrimination that prevailed.
3. Savatiya Makkala Hage (Like Step-Children, 1982): An appeal to Mother India to not treat Muslims like stepchildren and ask to forgive "the misguided ones".

Context: Karnataka Forest Department launches ‘Garudakshi’ online FIR system to curb wildlife crimes.
Garudakshi System:
1. It was launched by the Department of Forest, Government of Karnataka.
2. It is an online FIR system to curb forest encroachments, illegal tree-felling, poaching, and unauthorised entry into forest areas.
3. It was developed in collaboration with the Wildlife Trust of India (WTI).
4. Initially, Garudakshi would be launched on a pilot basis in the Bengaluru Urban Division, Bengaluru Forest Mobile Squad Division, Bhadravati Division, Sirsi Division, and Male Mahadeshwara Wildlife Division.
5. Based on feedback from the department staff, the software will be further enhanced and extended to all divisions across the State in a phased manner.
6. Registering FIRs through the Garudakshi software would be made mandatory in the days to come.

7. This online system will now enable authorities to track the number of chargesheets filed and pending cases from anywhere.

National Action for Mechanized Sanitation Eco-system (NAMASTE).
Self Employment Scheme for Rehabilitation of Manual Scavengers (SRMS) has been modified during the FY 2023-24 with a new nomenclature i.e. National Action for Mechanized Sanitation Eco-system (NAMASTE).
NAMASTE joint initiative of (MoSJE)+ (MoHUA) +NSKFDC is the implementing agency.
The primary target of NAMASTE is the sewer and septic tank sanitation Workers (SSWs) involved in hazardous cleaning operations and directly dealing with human faecal matter. Interventions for rehabilitation of manual scavengers under SRMS will continue under NAMASTE.

ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ಲೋಕ ಸೇವಾ ಆಯೋಗವು 2024ರ ಡಿಸೆಂಬರ್ 29ರಂದು ನಡೆಸಲಿರುವ ಕೆಎಎಸ್ ಪರೀಕ್ಷೆಗೆ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ರಾಜ್ಯ ಮುಕ್ತ ವಿಶ್ವವಿದ್ಯಾನಿಲಯದ ಸ್ಪರ್ಧಾತ್ಮಕ ಪರೀಕ್ಷಾ ತರಬೇತಿ ಕೇಂದ್ರದ ವತಿಯಿಂದ 30 ದಿನಗಳ ತರಬೇತಿಯನ್ನು ಮೈಸೂರಿನ ಕೇಂದ್ರ ಕಚೇರಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ನಡೆಸಲು ನಿರ್ಧರಿಸಿದೆ.
ಆಸಕ್ತರು ನವೆಂಬರ್ 16 ರ ಒಳಗಾಗಿ ಮೈಸೂರಿನ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ರಾಜ್ಯ ಮುಕ್ತ ವಿಶ್ವವಿದ್ಯಾನಿಲಯದ ಆವರಣದಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಕರಾಮುವಿ ಸ್ಪರ್ಧಾತ್ಮಕ ಪರೀಕ್ಷಾ ತರಬೇತಿ ಕೇಂದ್ರದ ಕಚೇರಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಬೆಳಗ್ಗೆ 10 ರಿಂದ ಸಂಜೆ 5ರ ಒಳಗಾಗಿ ತಮ್ಮ ಹೆಸರನ್ನು ನೊಂದಾಯಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳಬಹುದು.

ಬೂದಿಯನ್ನೇ ಕೊನೆಗೆ ಕಂಡಿದ್ದೇವೆ.
ನನಗೂ ಗೊತ್ತು, ಈ ಕತ್ತಲೆಗೆ
ಕೊನೆಯಿರದ ಬಾಯಾರಿಕೆ,
ಎಷ್ಟೊಂದು ಬೆಳಕನ್ನು ಇದು ಉಟ್ಟರೂ, ತೊಟ್ಟರೂ
ತಿಂದರೂ, ಕುಡಿದರೂ ಇದಕ್ಕೆ ಇನ್ನೂ ಬೇಕು
ಇನ್ನೂ ಬೇಕು ಎನ್ನುವ ಬಯಕೆ.
ಆದರೂ ಹಣತೆ ಹಚ್ಚುತ್ತೇನೆ ನಾನೂ;
ಕತ್ತಲೆಯನ್ನು ದಾಟುತ್ತೇನೆಂಬ ಭ್ರಮೆಯಿಂದಲ್ಲ,
ಇರುವಶ್ಟು ಹೊತ್ತು ನಿನ್ನ ಮುಖ ನಾನು ನನ್ನ ಮುಖ ನೀನು
ನೊಡಬಹುದೆಂಬ ಒಂದೇ ಒಂದು ಆಸ್ಯೆಯಿಂದ;
ಹನತೆ ಆರಿದ ಮೆಲೆ ನೀನು ಯಾರೋ, ಮತ್ತೆ
ನಾನು ಯಾರೊ.........

ಇದರಲ್ಲಿ ಮುಳುಗಿ ಕರಗಿರುವಾಗ
ನಾನು ಹಚ್ಚುವ ಹಣತೆ ಶಾಶ್ವತವೆಂಬ ಭ್ರಾಂತಿ ನನಗಿಲ್ಲ.
ಹಣತೆ ಹಚ್ಚುತ್ತೇನೆ ನಾನೂ;
ಈ ಕತ್ತಲಿನಿಂದ ಬೆಳಕಿನ ಕಡೆಗೆ ನಡೆದೇನೆಂಬ
ಆಸೆಯಿಂದಲ್ಲ.
ಕತ್ತಲಿನಿಂದ ಕತ್ತಲೆಗೇ ತಡಕಾಡಿಕೊಂಡು ಬಂದಿವೆ ಹೆಜ್ಜೆ
ಶತಮಾನದಿಂದಲೂ,
ನಡು ನಡುವೆ ಒಂದಷ್ಟು ಬೆಳಕು ಬೇಕೆಂದು
ಆಗಾಗ ಕಡ್ಡಿ ಗೀಚಿದ್ದೇವೆ,
ದೀಪ ಮುಡಿಸಿದ್ದೇವೆ,
ವೇದ, ಶಾಸ್ತ, ಪುರಾಣ, ಇತಿಹಾಸ, ಕಾವ್ಯ, ವಿಜ್ಞಾನಗಳ
ಮತಾಪು-ಪಟಾಕಿ-ಸುರುಸುರುಬತ್ತಿ-ಹೂಬಾಣ
ಸುಟ್ಟಿದ್ದೇವೆ.

1 Over 77% of rural households in India now have piped water connections, a significant leap from the 2019 baseline of 17%.
2 States Achieving 100% Tap Connectivity: Goa, Telangana, Haryana.
3 Union Territories Achieving 100% Tap Connectivity: Puducherry, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Dadra & Nagar Haveli, Daman & Diu.
4 Tap water coverage increased from over 3 crore to 15 crore households.
5 8 states and 3 Union Territories achieved 100% coverage.
6 Over 88% of schools and over 85% of Anganwadi centres receive tap water.
7 Over 2 lakh villages and 190 districts reached ‘Har Ghar Jal’ status.
