Foundry MODO is discontinued: one of the best 3D modeling and texturing apps will not be developed further.

You can check this video to find out about the best features of the 17.0 release. MODO was famous for its procedural approach before Blender eve touched the Geometry Nodes.

Foundry also has a popular VFX software NUKE and texturing app Mari. But MODO seemed like a worthy addition to the family and its fall is concerning.

Asus overclocked Ryzen 9800X3D to a whopping 6.9GHz at just a little over 100W and reached over 1200 FPS in Counter Strike (the original video is in Chinese, so, no link).

Several times it reached over 1500 FPS, but at more complicated moments fell to a regular (barely playable) 800... 😅

It's a crucial change, since all previous X3D models were locked from overclocking: the extra memory was placed on top of the CPU and it limited the heat transfer. This time they swapped them, by placing CPU on top, so it's as good for overclocking as regular models.

The first batch is sold out almost everywhere (and unlike Intel Ultra, there were a lot of them, but apparently not enough).

You can still collect all the assets of Quixel Megascans for free, but it was discovered that they will not appear in your library right away.

The reason: there were too many of them (18800+) to sort out and search, so instead they will make the library to support collections and more tags later on to separate it from all other assets.

UPD: The ship was there already and it's an annual event for the fans, so they can get it.

More news for Mass Effect fans: the TV series is on the way, the new game is in development and will be shown a bit later.

Quidditch was supposed to be a part of Hogwarts Legacy and was cancelled in favor of a separate boring multiplayer version without a personality.

And you know what? It failed miserably and burned millions, while single player Hogwarts Legacy sold 30m+ copies already.

PS. The studio is working on Hogwarts Legacy directors cut and on the sequel too. I'm expecting that the sequel will have quidditch. As for the directors cut: they will add over 30 hours of content that was previously taken out.

Lisa Su, a CEO of AMD signed several 9800X3D boxes. Unfortunately, they are not for sale!

But all the other 9800X3Ds are now available globally and are fairly good 👍😊 Unlike previous models, where memory die was placed on top of the CPU, these new ones have memory below the CPU, which improved thermal efficiency. This is why 9800X3D has better frequency and can be overclocked!

The developer of the cozy fishing game finally added clothing, made deliberately for straight players!

In the game people can sell fish and get new items, like clothes. A couple of them were marked with rainbow elements and aimed for the LGBTQ community. One player left a negative review on every platform he was able to due to lack of straight alternatives.

The developer added some for $10000 a piece (it's a virtual price and other items usually cost up to $75). It will take months of grind to get this iconic look. So, either you are a normie, gay, or rich 🤑

After all these years, STALKER 2 team finally rolled out a trailer that makes sense to me: they showcase it as a survival game with weapons!

The game also looks very old fashioned in terms of visuals: baked lighting, hard shadows, noticeable polygons on models around. And you know what? IMO: it's more appealing than blurry modern games.

A quick recap of the new Steam video capturing and editing tool:

First of all, it's not a multi track editing software, they are unfortunately not replacing DaVinci Resolve, Premier Pro, or Vegas Pro.

You can quickly capture, cut a desired fragment, and share it with friends or the global community.

Video capturing can run all the time (to store a recent 30-60-90 minutes, or as much as your drive can handle) or be activated manually. It should not affect performance, since it runs on AMD and NVIDIA hardware video encoders (but Intel isn't supported and its owners will run on CPU).

Fortunately, it's not relying on Windows-specific libraries, so you can also use it on Steam Deck, that previously was not very capable for any video capture. And probably still isn't: the screen is only 1280 by 800 pixels, while modern content platforms prioritize 4K.

And #NVIDIA asks its users to upgrade GeForce GPU drivers to version 566.03, NVIDIA RTX, Quadro, and NVS of the R565 driver branch to 566.03, R550 to 553.24, and R535 to 538.95. The same goes for Tesla.

A significant vulnerability has been discovered and patched out. Without new drivers attackers can raise their permissions in the system to higher levels.

The issue is present on Linux as well, but drivers update there is a little more sophisticated.

UPD: According to BioWare, they borrowed the technology called “Strand Based Hair” from EA Sports. Which means, it's a custom solution, and it was already integrated into the engine (and utilized for EA Sports Football).

It's highly likely, that they are using TressFX by AMD, upgraded (still under Open Source) by Unity China under HairFX brand. And yes, you can add this to your games!

Crazy enough, there's Chinese Unity that is a separate entity and makes even more nice stuff than the main one. This plugin, for example, works well with Unreal and seems like it was also integrated into Frostbite engine (DICE/EA).

Here's how to fix blurry image (due to TAA) on PC:

1. Launch the game, boot it up fully, set graphics that you want, then close
It's required so all settings files will be created

2. Open this location
(Replace YOUR USERNAME)
C:\Users\YOUR_USER_NAME_HERE\AppData\Local\Hogwarts Legacy\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor

3. In Engine.ini add this to SystemSettings:

All new #Intel Ultra (rebranded High-end CPUs) are absolutely useless for gaming. They are worse than 14-gen, 12-gen, and especially Ryzen with 3D cache (aka X3D).

Yes, their power consumption is way more reasonable than 14-gen (that ended up with massive hardware corruption), but this doesn't explain how they are somewhere at 10-gen level for a much higher price!

And the Ryzen 9000 X3D models will be fully announced this November and will crush Intel even further.

Despite my hate to cloud-based features, there is one I liked recently: Avenge quests in Valhalla!

Every hour or so you can find a dead player and look around for NPCs who killed him to avenge. Once I found a fella who died... TO A SNAKE. You can't die from a snake in this game, it's ridiculous, dammit, they are too weak and slow 🤣

And yes, those are chickens on the screenshot I found online about this feature 🤡

As promised: here is the project (compatible with Godot 4.3): there are two shaders right now — Mini and Extra.

ColorCorrection Mini

Tune color temperature, brightness, saturation, and green tint of the whole image. With this simple and fast shader you can easily make the game feel colder, warmer, or more dangerous (like on icy mountains, hot volcano, or poisoned swamps respectively).

ColorCorrection Extra

Same as Mini, but with extra sliders to tweak Bright and Dark areas separately, so the results are almost unlimited: you can turn day into night in a few clicks.

Just created a simple color grading shader graph for Godot 4!

💡 It can control color temperature and green tint of the whole image + separately apply additional values for bright and dark areas (if needed).

Godot already provides LUT support and color correction via textures, but this one is much easier to use and achieve artistic vision for a casual audience.

Will share it later on GitHub with some more examples!
