A brief summary of the MAGA Civil War:

On December 22, Trump appointed Sriram Krishnan as a senior adviser on artificial intelligence. Sriram Krishnan is a naturalized citizen who initially came to the United States from India on a work visa that he obtained through Microsoft.

Previously, Krishnan worked as a general partner at the venture capital firm Andreessen-Horowitz and served as its ambassador to Twitter after Musk's acquisition, which was partially financed by Marc Andreessen.

Krishnan is the latest Trump appointee drawn from a group of Silicon Valley venture capitalists who call themselves "Little Tech," mostly in the orbit of Elon Musk and Peter Thiel.

This appointment drew widespread criticism from pro-Trump influencers over previous statements by Krishnan in support of increasing the cap on greencards.

The "Little Tech" or "Tech Bro" faction, including Elon Musk, Vivek Ramaswamy, David Sacks, and Sean Maguire, rallied to Krishnan's defense on X, voicing support for high-skilled legal immigration and accusing his detractors of being motivated by racism.

Yesterday and today, the brand accounts "@ConservativeOGs" and "@ProjectGroyp" were stripped of their verification and features, subsequently their affiliate accounts lost their verification and features like increased character limit.

Earlier today, many of the affiliate accounts under the brand "@ProjectGroyp," including Dalton Clodfelter, Tyler Russell, Ray, ClassicsGroyp, KaizerRev, Pinesap, and Bookcat, were permanently suspended.

At the same time that the suspensions occurred, Elon posted that "reply spammers" were being nuked as he composed the post. @ProjectGroyp received an email from X saying that the account was unverified for engaging in platform manipulation.

Earlier tonight, Elon posted that, being an H-1B immigrant himself, he would "go to war" against anyone who opposes the H-1B program.

This is an extremely disturbing and unfortunate development.

Pleased by how many MAGA influencers have come out on the right side of the legal immigration debate.

I expected most would loyally follow the Trump admin on this, but it's really only other foreigners and immigrants like Hanania and Cheong cheering on the tech-right position now.

I don't think that would have been the case 4 years ago.

The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) reported $48 billion in education exports are inflated and vastly overstates the benefits of international students to the Australian economy. The ABS obtains this impressive export figure using “an average spend estimate from Tourism Research Australia … supplemented by the addition of total expenditure on course fees." The ABS incorrectly classifies all spending by international students as exports, even when the expenditures are paid for with income earned in Australia. The truth is that overseas students working in Australia fund a considerable portion of their expenses. These students must work to support their living expenses, compete for employment with younger Australians, and rely heavily on charity to get by. YouTube and TikTok are full of videos from international students explaining how to rort free food out of the system. Last month, The SMH reported that “demand for the University of Sydney’s student-run food welfare service, FoodHub, which offers free food and essential items such as toiletries, rose 60% in the past year, with international students making up 93% of the 57,000 students who used the service in 2024." When overseas students become a drain on charitable services, it proves that their economic value to Australia has been wildly overestimated. Why is the Australian government providing visas for international students who can't afford to feed themselves? This is supposed to be an "export" not a humanitarian program.

“I’ve always found arguing to be an ineffective method of influence, which is why I don’t do it.

The only real reason to argue is in front of an audience to embarrass an opponent.

But you’re never going to change someone’s mind by arguing with them, you’ll actually just cause them to become even more steadfast in what they already believed.

Arguing is a besiegement of the mind; it is perceived by the mind as an attack and so naturally, when being argued with the walls come up and the mind closes off.

When you argue, you signal yourself as a hostile force and your opponent responds defensively.

And if you know anything about historical warfare, sieges are expensive and wasteful.

If we want to influence people effectively we want to create the opposite environment, we want the walls to come down and the mind of our target to be open.

We want to be able to enter a targeted mind and change it from the inside, rather than trying to batter down its walls from without.

We don’t do this by arguing and starting a siege, we do it through demonstration, suggestion and by appealing to a person’s sense of self-importance.

This is the place inside a person where their beliefs and ideas tend to reside, not in cold reasoning but within ego and human conceit.

So basically, we start by using praise and appreciation.

Ask questions, act impressed and congratulate the other person on their own cleverness and moral goodness, while making only small suggestions and general demonstrations which encourage their mind to change in your favour.

It’s especially effective to ‘sandwich’ your suggestions in between two layers of praise:

“You’re obviously a compassionate person, nations have to be exclusive and we need to draw the line somewhere, but you’re clearly someone who’s interested in human welfare, we need more of that.”

With this kind of praise, it’s very hard for the person to resist ‘opening up’ and allowing you in because you’re not arguing and not signalling any hostility.

Avoid praising their existing ideas and focus on appreciating their good qualities instead, always while lacing into your sentences the obvious correctness of your idea.

At the same time advertise the superiority of your own idea through good health, patience and a positive attitude.

It may sound like a lot of work but it’s really not.

Just contain your own ego, become a friend or just someone kind.
Make your suggestions, be easy to admire and you’ll be amazed how quickly people will shift their whole lifestyle to reflect your ideas and attitudes. They’ll also think they’ve come up with it all themselves.

This is how I’ve changed minds on a personal level and it’s much better than arguing.

I realise shame and pressure have their place, but I thought this method might make life easier for some of you. You don’t have to make enemies all of the time!”
