IELTS with ERKIN

14 Jan, 19:14

TASK 2: Some think that too much attention and too many resources are given to the protection of wild animals and birds.

To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
There has never been a time in history when preserving the environment, including wild species of birds and animals, has been more urgent than now. Countries nowadays allocate both their attention and funds to that end, which, according to some people, is too much. I completely disagree with this view as I am convinced that the efforts countries make to protect the environment are fully justified.

For a start, the idea that the amount of focus directed to the preservation of wild animals is excessive is completely wrong. This is because the loss of wildlife in many countries has shown how devastating the consequences of this can be. A good case point is a bird species called passenger pigeon which was driven into extinction in the early 20th century. The USA had to deal with several adverse effects of the disappearance of this bird ranging from ecological imbalance due to the vital role these birds played in forest ecosystem to economic implications as many communities depended on this bird for food and trade. Although this is only one example, countless others call for urgent action on the part of countries if they are to reverse the potential negative implications of the disappearance of wild species.

In addition, the resources spent on conserving wild animals and birds are also fully justifiable for a number of reasons. First of all, preservation of wild animals and birds is essential for their significance in science and medicine. Wildlife is a source of knowledge, thus helping scientists study ecosystems, genetics and evolutionary processes. Many medicines are also derived from animals, making conservation necessary for future discoveries. Another importance of conservation is in the prevention of chain reactions of extinction. In other words, the disappearance of one species can lead to a domino effect, where other species dependent on it also suffer or vanish. Therefore, preserving wild animals and birds prevents such catastrophic chain reactions.

In conclusion, it is my personal conviction that the funds and attention channeled into the conservation of wild animals and birds are completely necessary and prudent.

The bar-chart illustrates changes in the production and ticket sales of four types of films in one European country in the years 1996 and 2000. Overall, both the release of as well as the sales of tickets for drama, comedy and fantasy films increased in 1996 as opposed to romance movies whose production remained unchanged and ticket sales declined.

In terms of production, drama and comedy movies exhibited significantly higher rates than the other two. Drama led the pack with 25% of the movies released in 1996 being of that genre, and this figure increased to 35% 4 years later. Comedy movies followed closely behind with 20% intially- a figure that then rose by 5 percentage points. By contrast, much lower percentage of movies released in this period were fantasy and romance. The former’s figure stood at around 17% before rising to just over 15%. Romance films, however, bucked the foregoin trend as their production did not change at only 5%.

A somewhat different pattern can be observed in the sales of tickets. Comedy movies were the most popular with 20% of tickets sold belonging to this genre and this rate rose even further to 23%. Drama movies, despite having the highest prodiction rate, remained in the second position in the sale of tickets at about 15% with an insignificant increase. The remaining two types of movies also recorded much lower figures in ticket sales at below the 6% mark with a rise in the former and a fall in the latter.

The bar-chart compares how many users visited a community website after it was launched and during the second year of use over the course of a year.
Overall, a similar trend can be observed in visits to this website in both years, with the figures showing a significant fluctuation. It is also clear that visits in the second year noticeably outnumbered those in the initial year of use by a large margin during most months.

The volume of visits to the given community website was much lower during the first year of use. It started out at less than 2500 before rising substantially to 10000 in November. After a month of no change, starting from December, the number of visits plunged to even less than the initial figure in February and March. From April, the figure began to rise again, but consistently this time, reaching 15000 in August.

Visits during the second year followed a somewhat similar pattern, albeit with a considerable difference. Following a slight rise intially to juat over 5000 in October, the figure jumped to 17500 and remained unchanged during the next month similar to the first year. Then, visits to the website fell to 10000 during February and March. After another jump to slightly over 22500 in June and July, the number of visits in the secknd year of use fell again to 12500 towards August, which was lower than the rate for this month in the first year.

TASK 2

Many customs and traditional ways of behaviors are no longer relevant to the modern life and no worth keeping.

Do you agree or disagree?

There is a viewpoint that the majority of traditions and cultural norms have lost their relevance to contemporary society and therefore should not be preserved. While there is some truth to this view, I personally take issue with it.

True, what once was considered customary and traditional in some societies is not aplicable today any more. The country I live in-Uzbekistan can be a good case in point. Historically, extended family living arrangements were common, with several generations of a family living together. However, changing lifestyle preferences have put an end to this long-stading tradition and nuclear or smaller families are more common these days. Another example of a custom that has lost its significance lately is arranged marriages. Traditionally, parents of Uzbek youth who came of age chose potential partners for them. Yet, globalization and the influence of western norms have declined such practises when it comes to starting a family.

Although certain customs are no longer practised in some places, many still hold their significance and the idea that they are worthless is flawed. Examples of still common traditional behaviors and customs in many countries are respect for the elderly, dining together with family or celebrating traditional festivals and practising the customs associated with them. Such traditions have not been forgotten and are still in practise. Moreover, preserving old customs and traditional ways of behaving is essential. This is primarily because they help protect cultural heritage and identity, and disregarding them can lead to a cultural loss.

In conclusion, granted, particular customs and traditional behaviours are irrelevant in today’s world. Nevertheless, many are still relevant and need to be maintained.

“The person who likes walking will walk further than the one who likes the destination”
This is a quote I heard yesterday and the reason I’m sharing it is because it applies very much to learning english. So many people or students are now obsessed with what score they will get eventually, often asking will I get a 7 teacher?
So my point is instead of being obsessed with your result, you guys should be obsessed with improving your language by exposing yourself to the language as much as you can. I alsways tell students that they should read a lot in english, watch english stuff as much as they can and remember the more, the better. So once you get in the right track, results will start coming along the way usually automatically.
The takeaway from this message is dont obsess yourself with the results and just enjoy the process.

Sooner or later you will get that result you want.

Weddings are getting bigger and more expensive.
What is the reason for this?
Is it a positive or negative development?

In some countries, people nowadays celebrate weddings extravagantly. This phenomenon can be attributed to several factors and I consider it to be a completely negative development.

There are several reasons why lavish wedding celebrations are common these days. One is the importance people attach to weddings. People in some places regard these occasions as once-in-a-lifetime events and such a mindset encourages them to spend a lot on weddings to make them as memorable as possible. My own country-Uzbekistan- can be a good case in point. Uzbek people usually push themselves to their limits in weddings by overspending and sometimes even running into huge debts to make this one day unforgettable. They rent large venues, invite over 500 people, pay for entertainers and decorations- all in an attempt to impress others and make lasting impressions on this day.

I am personally against such huge wedding celebrations and I think such large expenses cannot be justified on any ground. This is primarily because it is illogical to put yourself into debt for an occasion that lasts only hours and regret later when you have trouble paying debts back. Clearly, throwing big wedding parties is a misuse of hard-earned money. Moreover, there is also the moral aspect of wasting money on lavish weddings. At a time when people in some countries are dying of hunger, the fact that others are organizing big wedding parties is morally wrong. Such people could better think about helping those troubled people.

In conclusion, people’s desire to make their wedding days memorable and impress others is contributing to an increasing tendency to organize weddings lavishly. I personally deem it to be a negative trend seeing that it is simply wasting money and morally wrong.

Nowadays, more and more people from different cities are spending more time
away from their families.
What are the possible reasons and the effects on the people themselves and their
families?

Many aspects of family life are different nowadays and one change from the past is that more and more people living away from their families. There are several factors prompting this change, and I think its effects can be both positive and negative at the same time.

People have generally become more geographically mobile than in the past for a number of reasons and this change has, in turn, caused many people to move away from their families. One possible explanation is globalization. Increased economic integration and international trade have created more job opportunities across borders, encouraging more people to move for better work prospects. Another is wider educational prospects. International education has become more available and affordable than ever and, as a result, many students are travelling abroad to seek better education.

The impacts of the given development are manifold. On the one hand, people who relocate to other countries learn to live independently. This is because those who live away from their loved ones will need to manage their budget, bear all household bills and do their house chores without the help of family members.
On the other hand, there are also drawbacks that come with living independently. One major problem such individuals face is homesickness. When your parents and siblings are not there to support you, you are likely to miss the company of family members and miss out on emotional support they provide. Obviously, not everyone may be able to cope with such challenges easily, making the experience abroad not so enjoyable.

In conclusion, the trend toward living away from family is the result of globalization and the availability of international study opportunities. While people who do so can benefit from this experience, they should also be prepared for the emotional challenges.

Part 1 laughter
Have a good sense of humor
His jokes always land
1-did you laugh a lot recently?
Yes I did and in general I always try to do so. Firstly because, I always try to maintain a positive outlook on life and so I try to laugh more and also recent days of my life have been filled with happiness.
2-do you often make people laugh?
Every time+sub+verb, Sub+verb.
Every time I cook, something goes wrong.
Last time+s+v, S+V
Last time I saw you, you looked sad.
Next time+s+V, S+V
Next time you come, be prepared.
No I am bad at making others laugh. Every time I tell a joke, I don’t seem to get the reactions I expect. In other words, my jokes never land.
Verb(ing) is a great way to +infinitive
Watching English movies is a great way to learn the language.
Listening to music is a great way to release stress.
Make sure+to+infinitive
I always make sure to clean my teeth before bed
3-do you like movies that make you laugh?
Yes I do enjoy comedies. Because watching a comedy movie is a great way to release exhaustion after a tiring day. Also, when I feel down or upset, I always make sure to watch a comedy movie to lift my mood.

Have what it takes to +infinitive
I don’t have what it takes to be an actor.
Do I have what it takes to get 7 on ielts?
Part 1 teachers
1-would you like to be a teacher?
No I wouldn’t. simply because I don’t have what it takes to be a teacher. The reason why I think so is because I am not patient enough which is probably the biggest problem for me to become a teacher. Teachers need to be patient especially when they deal with students who cant understand easily or keep asking questions. Moreover, I am also a bit introverted and shy. And these factors obviously make it difficult for me to pursue a teaching career.
2-did you have a favorite teacher?
Yes I did and he/she was my math teacher. She was an old lady and she was a really loving and kind teacher and she was the same person who ignited=kindled my interest/love/passion for math.
3-how did this teacher help you?
Of course ,she taught me math in the first place. Also, she taught me what discipline is. Sometimes, as a school boy/girl, I used to lose my motivation to study and she was always there to support me and encourage me to study hard.
