al-Hasan al-Basri (rahimahullah) stated:

The roots of evil are three and its branches are six.

As for the three roots of evil:

1. Jealousy (envy)
2. Greed
3. Love of the life of this world

As for the six branches of evil:

1. The love of always sleeping.
2. The love of always having one's belly full.
3. The love of always resting.
4. The love of leadership.
5. The love of being praised by people.
6. The love of bragging.

It is (considered) bad manners (adab)

in sittings with others (i.e., sittings in our time applies to all gatherings, meetings, conversations, online or offline)

- to interrupt your companion while he is talking,
- or to interrupt him before he finishes what he started to say.

Rather, you should listen to him as if you had never heard anything (of it before, whether it be of advice, reminders, or any good talk) except from him.

Priority of One’s Family over Da’wah / Ummah at Large — Uprightness Starts with You and Your Home First

If your household is suffering and the people of your home need your good manners, your gentle advice by either word or actions, your consistent and constant prayers and du’a in the dead of the night for their righteous guidance; then this is your priority.

Stay away from the realm of da’wah and do not gather evidences against yourself.

Start with your family. Start with the Quran for yourself.

Sadly, this is the reality of those who put the themselves forward in da’wah.

Their homes, their families are suffering and most in need of their kindness, wealth, good advice, patience from them, gentleness, but they have left them and are busied in ‘correcting the affairs of the ummah’.

If there is any untruth to these words, we urge you to go ask about their treatment of their grandparents, their parents, their spouses, their children, their relatives and their dependents.

One does not carry a lamp to light the way for others when his own house is burning down. The wise is the one who steps down, and takes heed.

Help others plant their trees, but not while your house and your garden are burning down.

Giving Charity on Fridays

Ibn al-Qayyim (rahimahullah) said:

Giving charity on Friday has a special merit compared to other days,

just as giving charity during the month of Ramadan has a higher merit compared to the rest of the year.

I witnessed Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah (rahimahullah)

when he would go out for Jumuaah,

he would take whatever he found at home—be it bread or anything else—and give it as charity in secret on his way.

I heard him say:

“If Allah commanded us to give charity before consulting with the Messenger of Allah (sallAllahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) (58:12),

then giving charity before consulting with Allah is even more virtuous and deserving of merit”

[Ibn al-Qayyim (rahimahullah), Zaad al-Maad, 1/399]

Ibn ul-Qayyim (rahimahullah) said:

If the one giving charity

knew

that his charity landed in the Hand of Allah

before the hand of the poor person (48:10),

the pleasure of the giver would be greater than the pleasure of the receiver.

PAID, الحمدلله

For the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia 🇸🇦

We ask Allah to take care of the one who takes care of her needs on this blessed day.

A divorced woman

- who supports 3 children and

- two of her sisters live with her.

Yes it is a large bill, but it is an accumulated bill due to inability of this family to pay it.

This bill payment is only accepted if the full payment is made.

/ Payment is through the government electricity bill payment portal.

Consider:

If you had the wealth and Allah asked you to give Him charity that He takes in His Hand (placed above the hand of the one you give to)

Meeting the condition,

wouldn’t you give?

Invoice to copy and share:

If you have family, friends or acquaintances in the KSA, share this with them.

❗️If you’re not in the KSA, try to find someone who is.

👥The people around and close to you (family, relatives, neighbors, community, companions, acquaintances, then others) have more right over your wealth than those who are far away.

Trying to send your wealth to someone in the KSA to pay it off for them, this is effort that is neither due nor obligatory on you.

We advise you not to do this.

Send this message to someone who is in the KSA and have them send it to others.

To sisters who empathize with her, you have a beautiful opportunity to make du’a for her.

- if you are a woman who is going through difficulties in her marriage and livelihood,
- if you are divorced,
- if you are divorced with children,
- if you are divorced and have dependents,

you should make du’a for this sister (your sister).

The angels will say “Ameen and for you the same (blessings, and good that you asked for your sister in secret),

Note: this family is eligible for Zakat, which means their needs are dire.

You may copy this message and share with those who you think can help or who can find others to help. There is no need to link it to the channel.

Eye of Admiration: “Why would one of you kill his brother?”

Abu Dawud narrated that ‘Aishah (radiyAllahu ‘anha) said:

The person who had given the eye of admiration on another

- would be ordered to do wudu,

- then the person who was afflicted (by him) would wash himself (with that water).

Imam Ahmad, Malik, al-Nasai and Ibn Hibban (rahimahumuAllah) narrated from

Sahl ibn Hanif
(radiyAllahu ‘anhu) (who said) that the Prophet (sallAllahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) came out and traveled with him towards Makkah, until they were in the mountain pass of al-Kharar in al-Jahfah.

There, Sahl ibn Hanif did ghusl (bathed), and he was a handsome, white-skinned man with beautiful skin.

‘Amir ibn Rabi'ah, one of Banu ‘Adiyy ibn Ka'b looked at him whilst he was doing ghusl and said (remarked): “I have never seen such beautiful skin as this, not even the skin of a virgin (little girl)!,”

and Sahl fell to the ground (afflicted with the eye of admiration).

They went to the Messenger of Allah (sallAllahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) and said,

“O Messenger of Allah! can you do anything for Sahl, because by Allah he cannot (even) raise his head!”

He said, “Do you accuse anyone with regard to him?”

They said, “‘Amir ibn Rabi'ah looked at him (with admiration).”

So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) called ‘Amir and rebuked him strongly.

He said (to him), “Why would one of you kill his brother?” If you see something that you like (in your brother), then pray for blessing (barakah) for him!”

Then he said to him, “Wash yourself for him.”

So he (Amir) washed
his face,
hands,
forearms,
knees
and the sides of his feet,
and inside his izar (lower garment) in the vessel.

Then that water was poured over him (Sahl), and a man (did this and he) poured it over his head and back from behind. He did that to him, then Sahl got up and joined the people and there was nothing wrong with him (the eye of admiration was nullified).

Busying Oneself with Unimportant Matters — Sheikh al-Albani (rahimahullah)

The Prophet (sallAllahu ʿalayhi wa ’aalihi wa sallam) said:

خَيْرُكُمْ مَنْ تَعَلَّمَ الْقُرْآنَ وَعَلَّمَهُ

The best of you are those who learn the Qur’an and teach it.

[al-Bukhari and elsewhere]

This hadeeth contains direction to learn the Qur’an, and that the best of teachers is the teacher of the Qur’an, and also that the best thing a person can learn is learning the Qur’an.

How I wish that the students of knowledge would know this, for this is a tremendous benefit.

For there is a terrible condition that has become widespread in this age of ours that you find many of the du’aat and beginning students of knowledge who put themselves forward for da’wah, giving fataawaa and responding to people’s questions when they have not yet become proficient in reciting surah al-Fatihah with the correct pronunciation and articulation of each letter.

So sometimes he might pronounce the letter seen as ṣaad, or ṭa as ta, or dhal as zay, or thaa as seen, and they commit gross errors in pronunciation, not to mention less obvious ones.

But what is obligatory – obviously – is to become proficient in reciting the Qur’an from memory, such that one is proficient in articulating the ayaat and utilizing them in one’s admonitions, lessons, and da’wah.

So sometimes you see these types becoming preoccupied with what is saheeh versus what is dha’eef, refutations of the scholars, and weighing the various different statements of the scholars.

And you always hear such a person saying things which are above his level, for instance you see him say, “I think this” and “I say this”, “My position on this matter is such-and-such”, “In my view, the correct opinion is such-and-such”.

One of the amazing things is that you find these types of people never speak about any issue which is not disputed (
i.e., they don’t speak about things which everyone is in agreement with)

Instead, these people – except for those whom Allah protects – are always talking about the matters of differing so that he can insert himself into the discourse (as an authority to speak and argue), or if he can’t do that, then to select whichever one of the positions he prefers.

I seek refuge with Allah from insincerity and seeking fame, and I advise myself first and these people secondly that the best thing for the student of knowledge to begin with is the memorization of the Quran just as Allah said:

فَذَكِّرْ بِالْقُرْآنِ مَن يَخَافُ وَعِيدِ

But remind those who fear My threat with the Qur’an

The State of a Person in the Grave

Ibn al-Qayyim (Rahimahullah) said:

The state of a person in the grave will be like the state of the heart in the chest; in bliss or facing punishment, imprisoned or roaming freely. If you want to know what your state in the grave will be like, then look at the state of your heart in your chest.

If the your heart is filled with joy and tranquility, and is pure (clean from pride, envy and other evils) - then by the Will of Allaah, the same will be your state in the grave. And it's opposite is also true.

This is why you find that a person - who is obedient (to Allaah), and has good manners (with the creation), and who is forgiving (and kind) - to be the most tranquil (and at rest).

Faith takes away distress, removes the grief, and it (Faith) is the coolness of the eyes of the one upon Tawheed (monotheism), and (the means of) comfort for the worshipers.

Whoever is preoccupied with Tasbeeh (saying: SubhaanAllaah), his private affairs will be taken care of.

And whoever is preoccupied with al-Hamd (saying: alhamdulillaah), he will be given bounties one after the other.

And whoever is preoccupied with al-Istighfaar, the locked (doors) will be opened for him.

Praises and Dust

al-Miqdad (radiyAllahu ‘anhu) said that,

“The Messenger of Allah (sallAllahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) ordered us to throw a handful of dust at the faces of those excessive in praise.”

[Muslim (3002), at-Tirmidhi, Abu Dawud, Ibn Majah, and Ahmad — (rahimahumullah)]

-

'Ata' ibn Abi Rabah (radiyAllahu ‘anhu) reported that a man was praising another man in the presence of Ibn 'Umar (radiyAllahu ‘anhu) Ibn 'Umar began to throw dust towards his mouth.

He said,

"The Messenger of Allah (sallAllahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said, “When you see those who praise people (excessively), throw dust in their faces.'"

[al-Adab al-Mufrad, 340]

In order to avert any applications of this Hadith,

people are keen on seeking the praise of scholars for themselves,

Because then, no doubt will linger in the hearts of people

Even if it means

that they have to present their case to the scholars in words that will certainly earn them praise

This is seeking approval by means of deception

Therefore today, when one is praised (if it is true at all),

they make sure the world knows who/which scholar praised them,

and that they are praised by so-and-so and are highly regarded.

They love to be praised and they seek it with all their might.

And Allah alone is The One from Whom refuge is sought.
