One trade-off I've found is that it doesn't have a built-in ad blocker like Brave does. I almost stopped using Zen because of this. Brave's ad blocker is so seamless and powerful that I've become so used to a clean internet experience. But all I needed to do was install uBlock to Zen and that was it.

So Zen is my default browser now. Though, I use Brave for Spotify because it goes haywire on Zen ever since I installed an ad blocker. Brave lets me use Spotify without any issues and without ads, so that's cool.

This feels like I'm doing an ad campaign for Zen lol. I just thought I'd share its features, so that you can refer to this post when you want to compare Zen to other browsers

Zen's unique features:

• It has a better performance that already makes it wayy faster than Brave.

• It was the easiest bookmark setup I've ever done. Literally 2 buttons. Considering it was a pain to do the same when I transitioned to Brave 2 years ago, this is a huge plus.

• I love the picture-in-picture mode for YouTube, which is so seamless. I've never used this feature too, so ብርቄ ነው

• The workspaces are አንጀት አርስ. Organizing tabs in groups based on anything I want is awesome. For now, I've gone with Locking In (for work and class related stuff), Movie & Music, Brain Rot and Inspirations. It's so clean and organized that it almost feels like I'm using Notion.

• It's incredibly lightweight, both in function and look. But it also feels light. I've customized my browser to have no tabs, so I'm completely immersed (just look at my homepage). Feels like I'm using the app version of the website I'm in.

• It has a nice active community that is very responsive and quick to patch any issues.

• As I said, it's very customizable. And I mean that from the bottom of my soul. It's more customizable than a Valorant skin. And the customization is incredibly user-oriented that part of the Zen experience is the ability to completely make it yours, which is just fucking awesome.

• It has better privacy settings than Brave, which is impressive on its own. They claim that they don't sell your data for third-parties, and I'm going to take their word for it bc I see no indication as to why it wouldn't be true.

• All of these great features come from a browser that is still in its Beta mode. If it's this stable now imagine it when it's fully realised.

So, I went with Zen first planning to try Vivaldi next if Zen didn't work out. Turns out there was no need for that bc I've fully transitioned to Zen now. It's incredible. More customizable and lightweight than any website I've ever used. Here's what I've found.

Here's more context:

Starting in 2016 E.C., our monthly electric bills had a 10 birr+ charge for tv. So in 2016, we all paid 120 birr as a TV tax, but it was just added to our electric bills. The same is happening this year. Since it's ጥር now, we have paid about 50 birr total for our tvs.

But now, they're imposing this "TV tax" to make us pay for the years we haven't paid for owning a TV: the years before 2016. It's a one-time payment of about 520 birr per tv, I think. After this, they'll just keep doing the same thing and adding the 10 birr on our electric bills. All money goes to EBC which is the shittiest channel in all of existence

And while we're on the topic of god-tier hustling, I think that's why Talent Show winners never really get anywhere. They're molded in an environment that only nurtures talent. Some talent shows like ባላገሩ or ፋና do encourage hard work, but even that is counterintuitive because you can't expect a person to work the same within and without a competition. Same is true for any global talent show winners in any field too. Very few are able to capitalize on this profound opportunity. Most talent shows are basically reality shows about people who sing, and at the end you're left with people who are more familiar with entertaining a crowd than making an album. ዳዊት ፅጌ is a pleasant exception, but አብርሃም should largely be credited for his momentum.

I found this pretty cool website that simulates sunlight to show you the shadow of landmasses at a particular date and time anywhere in the world. Which is incredibly impressive.

It's intuitive to use too. Just pick the date at the bottom and drag the hour slider to see the effect. The video shows today's sunshade from መርካቶ to መገናኛ (left to right) and 5 ኪሎ to ብሔራዊ (top to bottom). Try it out for yourself

I do use GPT for solutions most times. Which has been such a blessing. Especially compared to a couple of years back. It's crazy how much automation there is today. And, yes. It comes with its own set of challenges. You could make it do everything, but you'll suffer from a lack of experience and skill. So, for me, the best way to use GPT is like this:

I only ask it to solve the problems that come from my own product. That way, GPT is more like a teacher. And you don't really become dependent on it. Instead of it answering the teacher's questions, it corrects your answers if they're wrong.

Oh, I also use it to write introductions and conclusions for papers. Ain't nobody got time for that

Uthiopia

A while back, me, @Davedumps and @Gugutlogs curated a playlist called Uthiopia. Honestly, I never expected 48 people to save it, which is really fucking awesome.

The playlist is mainly dominated by tunes from the 60s - 90s. Aside from the artists featured on the post, there are countless other legends from the oldies period; the best Ethiopiques volumes; and great instrumental pieces across all 4 Ethiopian melodies.

We've been adding more tunes on it since I talked about it last, and I really love it. It's singlehandedly responsible for the tracks dominating my Spotify Wrapped. I can't get enough of it. My parents love it too bc we always just bump it while we're cruising.
