🚨📢 Stop EACOP JUNE 26: Join us in The Hague Wednesday June 26th to deliver a letter to the Chinese Embassy 📢🚨

The fight against EACOP is in a critical moment, with 27 major commercial banks and 28 insurers already having ruled out support for the project. Now, project proponents are desperately looking to China, and its numerous state-owned banks and insurance firms to fill the funding gap.
We are escalating our fight against the Chinese state-owned corporations involved in, and considering support for EACOP and are calling on activists in the Netherlands.

Our plan is to go to the Chinese Embassy to deliver a letter, demanding they act like an intermediary and pass on the message to the Chinese corporations. Join us on the Global Day of Action and stand with comrades taking to the streets in countries across the globe including in Tanzania, Uganda, the DRC, Kenya, Nigeria, France and the UK to amplify the demands of communities on the frontlines.

Tijdens de GEEN GASCENTRALE actie van afgelopen zaterdag in Nijmegen, kregen onze dappere rebellen helaas te maken met gewelddadige omstanders. 😢 Daarbij werden onder andere een telefoon en een bril van een van onze rebellen vernield. Laten we onze solidariteit tonen en samen de kosten voor deze spullen dragen. 🙏
We hebben ongeveer 600 euro nodig om de telefoon en de bril te kunnen vergoeden.

Helaas is geweld tegen activisten een keiharde realiteit en kunnen we daarom alle support gebruiken om samen een harde vuist te maken tegen dit onrecht! ❤️‍🩹 Mochten we meer geld ophalen, dan zal het overgebleven bedrag gebruikt worden voor de juridische ondersteuning van onze dappere rebellen en voor soortgelijke noodlottige situaties in de toekomst. 🌱

During last Saturday's NO GAS PLANT action in Nijmegen, our brave rebels unfortunately had to deal with violent bystanders. 😢 Among other things, a phone and a pair of glasses of one of our rebels were destroyed in the process. Let’s show our solidarity and cover the cost of these items together! 🙏
We need about 600 euros to reimburse the phone and glasses.

On June 1st Extinction Rebellion will block the Oversteek, a large bridge over the river Waal in Nijmegen. Next to the bridge, the government wants to build a new natural gas power plant where fossil fuel will be used until 2040. But not if it is up to us. We take action and demand the municipality: no new natural gas power plant.

⌛️ A new gas power plant will be built in Nijmegen, where natural gas may be burned until 2040. However, research shows that natural gas can be even deadlier than coal.

🤑 A gas power plant is not a transition to a sustainable world; it is making profits from new fossil!

🪧 There is wide opposition from Nijmegen citizens and national environmental organisations. But politicians prefer to listen to ENGIE. Therefore, we announce a new mass action:

It’s 2024, the climate crisis rages on and we urgently need to phase out gas, not expand it. On Sunday April 14, we are organising an OPEN ASSEMBLY to discuss the organization of an action camp against gas at the end of summer. Europe's vulnerability and it's heavy dependency on fossil fuels - in particular Russian gas - became more than obvious and manifested in an energy crisis. But instead of addressing the historical moment by focusing strongly on energy efficiency, renewables and a rapid phase-out of fossil gas, European countries and the EU opted for switching to US Liquefied Natural Gas - despite the severe climate, environmental impacts and human rights violations related to the transatlantic supply chain of fracked gas. ⚓️16 maart: Internationale protesten tegen nieuwe fossiele winning in de Noordzee - NL actie Rotterdam ⚓️

Ondanks Europese klimaatbeloften worden nieuwe locaties voor olie- en gaswinning in de Noordzee en Waddenzee toegestaan😢. Het IPCC-rapport van de VN en het Internationaal Energie Agentschap zijn duidelijk: uitbreiding van de olie- en gaswinning brengen onze klimaatdoelen uit zicht🫠. De fossiele industrie heeft haar ogen gericht op winst en aandeelhoudersrendement, ze vertellen ons sreenwashed sprookjes terwijl ze schaamteloos doorgaan met het opstarten van nieuwe fossiele projecten.

Eén zo'n bedrijf is Shell, dat samen met Exxon de NAM vormt. De NAM, die verantwoordelijk is voor gasboringen en aardbevingen in Groningen, richt haar vizier nu op de Waddenzee, aan de rand van de Noordzee. De Waddenzee staat op de Werelderfgoedlijst van UNESCO, waar talloze beschermde inheemse en trekvogelsoorten afhankelijk zijn van de ligging van de zeebodem tijdens laag water om aan hun basisvoedsel te komen🐦‍⬛️. De Waddenzee is een van de ondiepste kustgebieden van Nederland en daarom extreem kwetsbaar voor de gevolgen van klimaatverandering. Toch besluit Shell hier te boren‼️

Het is de hoogste tijd om naar Shell te gaan en ze te vertellen dat het genoeg is🔥. We eisen van Shell, andere fossiele bedrijven en alle regeringen die hen faciliteren dat ze 1️⃣ eerlijk zijn over klimaatverandering 2️⃣ geen nieuwe productie in de Noordzee en Waddenzee toestaan en 3️⃣ actie ondernemen voor een rechtvaardige en groene transitie. Samen met onze internationale partners in Groot-Brittannië, Noorwegen, Zweden, Denemarken en Duitsland organiseren we op 16 maart protesten tegen verdere uitbreiding van fossiele productie in en rond de Noordzee. Er zullen acties zijn in al deze landen en wij zullen de onze houden in Rotterdam. Samen staan we sterk en kunnen we niet genegeerd worden❗️

⚓️16th March: International protests against new fossil extraction in the North Sea – NL action Rotterdam ⚓️

Despite European climate promises, new sites for oil and gas extraction in the North Sea and Wadden Sea are being permitted😢. The UN’s IPCC report and the International Energy Agency are clear: expanding oil and gas production pushes us off track for our climate targets🫠. The fossil industry has its eyes on profits and share-holder returns, they tell us greenwashed fairytales while they blatantly continue to initiate new fossil projects.

One such company is Shell, which together with Exxon form the NAM. The NAM who are responsible for gas drilling and earthquakes in Groningen is now turning their sights to the Wadden Sea, on the edges of the North Sea. The Wadden Sea is a UNESCO World Heritage site, where numerous protected native and migratory bird species depend on the exposure of the seabed during low tides to obtain their staple foods🐦‍⬛️. The Wadden Sea is one of the shallowest coastal areas in the Netherlands and therefore extremely vulnerable to the effects of climate change. Yet, Shell decides to drill here‼️

It is time to go to Shell to tell them that enough is enough🔥. We demand Shell, other fossil companies and all governments that facilitate them to 1️⃣ be honest about climate change 2️⃣ not allow any new production in the North and Wadden Seas and 3️⃣ take action towards a just and green transition.
Together with our international partners in Britain, Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Germany, we are organising protests on 16 March against further expansion of fossil production in and around the North Sea. There will be actions in all these countries and we will have ours in Rotterdam. Together we stand strong and cannot be ignored❗️
