UNHCR has received reports of a scam targeting Afghan nationals. Through emails, the individual claims that the UNHCR and US Forces Afghanistan (USFORA) are assisting 50 applicants to resettle to the Netherlands via a Special Humanitarian Visa.
This is a scam. These individuals are not connected to UNHCR and have no authority or ability to resettle anyone. Do not share your personal information with them or pay them any money.
With the latest announcement on the United States Refugee Admissions Program (USRAP), beware of individuals taking advantage of the situation. If you come across suspicious messages or individuals claiming to be able to provide resettlement for a fee or for any other services, report this to:
- The police at the nearest police station or the CCID Scam Response Centre at 03-26101559 or 03-26101599 (8am – 8pm)
- UNHCR at www.refugeemalaysia.org/contact
All UNHCR services are free. Be careful of individuals claiming to be able to help you obtain resettlement or any other UNHCR processes in exchange for money or other services.
Your UNHCR card will not be cancelled and your case will not be delayed or closed if you report suspicious activities to UNHCR.
