قال رسول الله ﷺ:

كفى بالمرء كذبًا أن يحدث بكل ما سمع.‏

صحيح مسلم ٥

وقال أيضاً ﷺ:

من كان يؤمن بالله واليوم الآخر فليقل خيرًا أو ليصمت.

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:

It is sufficient for a person to be considered a liar that he narrates everything he hears.

And he ﷺ also said:

Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day, let him speak good or remain silent.

Testimony of the Association of Muslim Scholars of Algeria in 1933:

“Yes, it is the Turks [Ottomans] who gave the Hanbalis of Najd the name ‘Wahhabis’, and it was they who spread accusations and lies against them throughout the Muslim world. They hired jurists (fuqaha) in all regions to compose, write and lie about the Hanbalis of Najd. They were also the ones who wrote a book against the Wahhabis and attributed it to Sheikh Sulaiman Ibn ’Abd al Wahhab, the full brother of Imam Muhammad Ibn ’Abd al Wahhab. It was they, too, who captured Ibn Saud and took him to Istanbul, but they violated the pledge they had made to him and treacherously and suddenly killed him.

And I believe that foreigners played a role in this war that the Ottoman Turks stirred up against Ibn Saud. Indeed, they are grieving at the prospect of Ibn Saud taking control of the Hijaz, of the spread of security, justice and mercy there and also of judging in accordance with what Allah has revealed.

During the era of the Turks, disorder and banditry were rampant in the Hijaz. Then, when the Wahhabis arrived in the Hijaz, they secured its roads and spread tranquility and justice there.”
