Jagaddhatri. Oil painting from Bengal.

"Jagatdhatri জগদ্ধাত্রী, 'Bearer of the World' is a form the goddess Durga, who is particularly worshipped in the Indian states of West Bengal. Her cult is directly derived from Tantra where she is a symbol of sattva beside Durga and Kali, respectably symbolized with Rajas and Tamas.

All gods like Indra, Varun, Vayu and others thought they were very powerful. They thought they are almighty and can do anything with their power. They forgot who is the real power of them. So Adi Shakti took their test. She came before them as Maya and created a grass before them. She said, "Oh mighty deva's please take that grass". They were laughing, then Indra sent Vayu to take that grass out. Vayu tried and tried but failed. Every god one by one tried but failed. Then Goddess Adi Shakti came before them and told them that every power of this universe is her. She is the power of the whole world. So all the Gods understood their fault. Goddess came before them as Goddess Jagaddhatri sitting on a lion. And their ego became an Elephant. That's how we see Goddess Jagaddhatri sitting on a lion and an elephant under her."

"Not long ago the rain walked through this clearing
Like a surveyor. Now with tinsel bait
The lily of the valley's leaves are weighted.
And water got into the mullein's ears.

These are the frigid fir trees' quondam nurslings,
Their ear lobes stretched with dew; they shun the day.
And grow apart, single and solitary.
Even their odors separately disbursed.

When it is teatime in the summer villas,
The fog fills the mosquito's sail, and night.
Plucking the strings of a guitar but lightly.
Stands among pansies in a mistlike milk.

Then with nocturnal violet all is scented.
Faces and years. And thoughts. Every event
That from the thievish past can be commanded
And in the future taken from Fate’s hand."

"All is holy, all is holy, all is holy. There is nothing natural in nature, my boy, remember that well. The moment nature begins to seem natural to you, all will be lost, and something new will rise in its place. Farewell to the sky! Farewell to the sea!

What a beautiful sky. Close. Joyful. Does even the smallest portion seem to you devoid of its strangeness? Or unclaimed by a God? So it is with the sea. Look behind you. What do you see? Perhaps you think it is something natural? No. What you see behind your back is an apparition. The clouds reflect against the heavy, still waters... Look ahead at that dark line across the lustrous, oil-pink sea, and the shadows of trees and reeds... In every place your eyes rest, a God is hiding. And if, by some chance, a God is not there, He leaves the signs of His sacred presence: silence, the scent of grass or the cold of the freshwaters.

What man unveiled in the agriculture, what he glimpsed in the silence of grains, what wisdom he drew from this sacred communion, what truths he gleaned from the seeds surrendering their form to the depth and dark of the Earth only to rise again - all of this sung the hymn of resurrection, my dear! Yet now, this revelation speaks no more. What once stirred the soul, what once whispered of rebirth in the breaking of the seed has become a memory of a distant past that no longer concerns you."

“No closer does the ivy clasp the tree,
The branches winding tightly together,
Than did those lovers who, so tenderly,
Their spirits felt upon their lips, forever
Tasting of that perfumed spice that surely
Nor India nor Sabaea offer;
Their deep joy formed the content of their speech,
While mingling two tongues, two languages each.”

Me voilà, seule enfin!

"As soon as the car stopped I jumped out, breathless. And maybe because I expected to see it from above like before, I had to look up to find that inverted liquid sky which flowed serenely towards boundless freedom. Great white birds gilded in the dizzying wind. My lungs, released, opened up and I breathed for the first time. For the first time, tears of gratefulness rolled down my face. Or was it the strong, pungent taste of that wind that bent over my mouth to kiss me."

Hevajra Mandala, 15th Century, Tibet

"Hevajra appears here in his three-headed and four-armed form. This manifestation is drawn from the Hevajra Tantra, a text revered by the Sakya order of Tibetan Buddhism, who likely commissioned this painting from a Newari artist from Nepal. Hevajra and his consort Nairatmya dance at the intersection of four vajra gateways, indicating their position at the center of the cosmos. His name is composed of two syllables: “he,” compassion, representing the male aspect, and “vajra,” wisdom, the female aspect, which together offer the path beyond this illusory world. The repeating skull symbolism references the impermanence of all phenomena. Beyond the celestial palace are the eight great charnel grounds, each presided over by a yogic master, or mahasiddha. On the reverse, in an ornate Tibetan lantsa script, are the Sanskrit mantra oh ah hum and mantra syllables configured in a stupa silhouette."(The Met)
