On November 9-10, 1938, in a pre-planned riot known as β€œKristallnacht”, Nazis throughout Germany torched synagogues, vandalized and looted Jewish owned homes, schools, businesses and hospitals, and killed close to 100 Jews. In the aftermath of Kristallnacht, the β€œNight of Broken Glass,” some 30,000+ Jewish men were arrested and sent to Nazi concentration camps. Rioters destroyed 267 synagogues throughout Germany, Austria and the Sudetenland. Over 7,000 Jewish businesses were damaged or destroyed. The Nazis blamed the Jews for the damage and fined them 1 billion marks and ordered them to clean up the mess the Nazis had caused by the pogrom.
