❌ WAHHABI FATWA
“It is not prescribed to face towards the grave of the Prophet ﷺ when offering du’a (supplication).”
[Fatawa Ibn Baz, Saudi Wahhabi Grand Mufti]

“There will remain the ignoramuses from whom verdicts (fatwas) will be sought.
They will give verdicts based upon their own opinions, so they will go astray and will lead the people astray.”
[Al-Bukhari]

✅ SUNNI FATWA
Caliph Al-Mansoor asked Imam Malik ibn Anas رحمه الله:
“O Abu Abdullah shall I face the Qiblah and make supplication or face the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ)?”
Imam Malik رحمه الله said:
“Why would you not face him and he is your wasilah (path) and wasilat of your great father Adam to Allah, rather face him and ask for his intercession, Allah will make him intercede.”
[Qadi ‘Iyad mentioned it in his book Ash-Shifa, and Allamah Hajar in Al-Jawhar al-Munadham and others]

Allah سبحانه و تعالى says in the Holy Qur’an,
وَمَا أَرْسَلْنَا مِن رَّسُولٍ إِلَّا لِيُطَاعَ بِإِذْنِ اللَّهِ ۚ وَلَوْ أَنَّهُمْ إِذ ظَّلَمُوا أَنفُسَهُمْ جَاءُوكَ فَاسْتَغْفَرُوا اللَّهَ وَاسْتَغْفَرَ لَهُمُ الرَّسُولُ لَوَجَدُوا اللَّهَ تَوَّابًا رَّحِيمًا
Translation:
“We sent not the Messenger, but to be obeyed, in accordance with the will of Allah.
If they had only, when they were unjust to themselves, come to the Messenger and asked Allah’s forgiveness, and the Messenger had (also) asked forgiveness for them, they would have found Allah indeed Oft-returning, Most Merciful.”
[Surah An-Nisa 4:64]
