Berjaya Food - Starbucks rugi 4 suku kewangan berturut-turut. Setiap quarter rugi sekitar RM30-40 juta. This time around even worst, sales pun drop.

Pendapat aku, boikot yang kuat berlaku sekitar 6-12 bulan lepas, now more to 'tak pergi pun takpa, kopi lain berlambak lagi.'

Kenyataan dalam quarter report terbaru:

'The significantly lower revenue and pre-tax loss incurred in the current quarter under review were mainly attributed to the prolonged impact from the ongoing sentiment in relation to the Middle East conflict.'

Aku ingat lagi waktu awal boikot dulu, depa buat statement kata boikot hanyalah bersifat sementara. Sekarang dah setahun, masih bertahan dan aku jangka benda ni akan berterusan agak lama sebab orang dah ada alternatif lain yang lebih banyak.

Beberapa sektor di Bursa Malaysia dijangka mendapat manfaat daripada pengukuhan ringgit (MYR) baru-baru ini. Antara sektor utama yang diuntungkan ialah:

1. Automotif: Pengukuhan MYR mengurangkan kos komponen yang diimport, memberi kelebihan kepada pengeluar kereta bukan nasional seperti Tan Chong Motor dan Bermaz Auto. Mereka mengimport komponen dalam USD dan JPY, jadi MYR yang lebih kuat mengurangkan kos import mereka.

2. Sektor Pengguna: Syarikat seperti Nestle Malaysia, Hup Seng, dan Spritzer akan mendapat manfaat daripada pengurangan kos bahan mentah, pembungkusan, dan mesin yang diimport. Walaupun pendapatan eksport mungkin sedikit terjejas, penjimatan kos dapat meningkatkan margin keuntungan.

3. Penjagaan Kesihatan: Pengilang sarung tangan dan syarikat seperti IHH Healthcare juga dijangka mendapat manfaat daripada kos import yang lebih rendah serta peningkatan jualan dalam negara.

4. Minyak & Gas (Downstream): Sektor ini akan mendapat keuntungan daripada pengurangan kos peralatan dan perkhidmatan yang diimport.

5. Utiliti dan Tenaga: Kos import yang lebih rendah membantu meningkatkan keuntungan bagi syarikat utiliti yang bergantung pada bahan yang diimport untuk infrastruktur.

Pengukuhan MYR ini mengurangkan tekanan inflasi dan meningkatkan keuntungan dalam industri utama di Malaysia.

Frontken Corp Bhd reported a 4.4% increase in net profit for Q2 2024, reaching RM33.33 million, compared to RM31.91 million in the same quarter last year.

The company's revenue rose to RM134.93 million, up from RM121.15 million.

The improved performance is attributed to higher demand in the semiconductor sector, particularly from its Taiwanese operations. Frontken remains cautiously optimistic about continued growth for the remainder of the year.

Panic in the US may continue be positive for ringgit

Perbincangan latest di US ialah apakah negara itu sedang hadapi recession? Walaupun baru 10 hari yg lalu (25 Julai) GDP 2Q 2024 (advance number atau estimate) di catat pada paras 2.8% - tinggi dari jangkaan 2.0%.

Tetapi pada hari Jumaat, job creation iaitu “Nonfarm payroll” or NFP untuk bulan Julai hanya 114K, menurut US Labor Department. Jangkaan para economis ialah 177K. NFP Jun juga tidak baik iaitu 179K, jauh lebih rendah dari announcement asal sebanyak 206K. Kemudian pula, unemployment rate July naik kepada 4.3% (Jun: 4.1%). Ini adalah kemorosotan tempoh 3 bulan berturut and worst since 2021.

So 3 main things happened in the US last week. This could shape the global financial markets in the near term:

Stocks: The US markets fell sharply, ie S&P 500 jatuh -1.8% & Nasdaq -2.4%.
*US Treasury bond: 10 year yield plunged to 3.79% & 2 year to 3.87%. Lowest for 2024.
USD: Fell last week especially vs yen and even smaller currencies ie ringgit, baht

(*Note: apabila bond yield jatuh bermakna harga bond naik. Ini kerana pelabur akan membeli bond sewaktu pasaran kewangan sedang berada di tahap berisiko tinggi. Jika yield naik bermakna harga bond turun).

The question is will the Federal Reserve cut interest rate more than 1 time this year, beginning in Sept and be more aggressive? Jika ini adalah path (aggressive cut) yang akan di ambil:

Pertama, USD akan terus lemah dan negara yang berada di opposite cycle (iaitu sedang naik rates atau even hold rates) akan alami aliran masuk dana asing, Japan, Malaysia, Thai maybe?

Kedua, risiko recession akan menyebabkan pelabur lebih berhati kepada pasaran saham buat masa ini dan tunggu dan lihat apa kah data ekonomi.

Apa yang berlaku minggu lepas ialah ringgit melonjak begitu tinggi dengan semua matawang dunia (except yen), seperti mana yang kita bincang dałam post X saya Khamis lalu (please refer to my X).
