How Gratitude Changes The Brain!!

Knowledge of how the brain responds to an experience of gratitude provides a window into gratitude’s relationship to both mental health and resilience. This is the brain on gratitude.

GRATITUDE BOOSTS DOPAMINE PRODUCTION AND NEUROMODULATION

When gratitude is experienced, the brain releases a surge of dopamine, the neurotransmitter most commonly recognized for its role in reward, motivation, and pleasure. Dopamine also plays a crucial part in modulating focus, motivation, cognitive flexibility, and emotional resilience.
And the cognitive benefits of gratitude continue past an isolated event. This study highlights how a gratitude writing intervention was associated with significantly greater and lasting neural sensitivity to gratitude. The subjects who participated in gratitude letter writing showed both behavioral increases in gratitude and significantly greater neural modulation by gratitude in the medial prefrontal cortex three months later.”

I’m Slowly Learning

“I’m slowly learning that I don’t have to react to everything that bothers me.

I’m slowly learning that the energy it takes to react to every bad thing that happens to me drains me and stops me from seeing the other good things in life.

I’m learning that I’m not going to be everyone’s cup of tea and I won’t be able to get everyone to treat me the way I want to be treated and that’s okay.

I’m slowly learning that trying so hard to ‘win’ anyone is just a waste of time and energy and it fills me with nothing but emptiness.

I’m slowly learning that not reacting doesn’t mean I’m okay with things, it just means I’m choosing to rise above it.

I’m choosing to take the lesson it has served and learn from it.

I’m choosing to be the bigger person.

I’m choosing my peace of mind because that’s what I truly need.

I don’t need more drama.

I don’t need people making me feel like I’m not good enough.

I don’t need fights and arguments and fake connections.

I’m slowly learning that sometimes not saying anything at all says everything.

I’m slowly learning that reacting to things that upset me gives someone else power over my emotions.

I can’t control what others do, but I can control how I respond, how I handle it, how I perceive it and how much of it I want to take personally.

I’m slowly learning that most of the time, these situations say nothing about me and a lot about the other person.

I’m slowly learning that maybe all these disappointments are just there to teach me how to love myself because that will be the armor and the shield I need against the people who try to bring me down.

I’m also learning that even if I react, it won’t change anything, it won’t make people suddenly love and respect me, it won’t magically change their minds.

Sometimes it’s better to just let things be, let people go, don’t fight for closure, don’t ask for explanations, don’t chase answers and don’t expect people to understand where I’m coming from.

I’m slowly learning that life is better lived when I don’t center it on what’s happening around me and center it on what’s happening inside me instead.

The more we over-think, over-process, intellectualize healing/feeling moments often the further we get away from embodiment and the less we will inner-stand what our body and energy is asking of us.

Healing Prompt: When I find myself stewing over thoughts, mentally lost in a moment or overwhelmed on looped worries, can I now let that be a reminder I need a shift in my present to perhaps come further into my breath, further into my heart space, into the body, perhaps rubbing my arms or legs moving energy by gentle shakes or taps, whatever feels best to refocus to the tangible, textile feel right in the hear and now. Our whole being & body system needs INTENTIONAL inputs. (What we focus on expands)

What are intentional inputs ?

Conscious actions/decisions/choices from present moment to present moment of new choices for the creation of NEW neuro-pathways (patterns) to be formed within our brain/nervous system.

The nervous system needs daily actions/inputs to rewire new pathways. (Brain, Body & Ocular exercises for example).

The mind needs observation and inputs to keep focused and on track for positivity. (Re-program through writing, positive mantas, choosing to see another perspective, different responses, over & over again.)

Perfection Of Imperfections

“It’s a common story sold that if your elbow hurts you treat the elbow, tummy bubbling you treat the tummy, fatigue and weakness you treat the hormones. Then they’ll see you that it doesn’t just stop there and you start treating the entirety of your system with pain managing, symptom managing, life managing treatments, prevention methods and hacks to keep yourself pieced together for as long as you can until you fall off the wall again and have flare ups or more injuries.

Ankles or spine damaged? Have to look at the entirety of your life not just learning how to train. Relationships hurt, heart break, guilt, shame etc? Have to look at the entirety of your life not just learning how to train and how to create a positive mindset or a mantra to say all day everyday. Concussed? Have to look at the entirety of your life not just learning how to train, believe, nourish etc.

What’s cool is the body immediately defaults to an earlier stage of your development emotionally, physically, intellectually, mentally and spiritually for you to go back through the basics, go back and relearn or learn what you missed the first time, second time and third time. And every time you check in on the entirety of your life and avoid spot testing the entirety of your life levels up because of the breakup, the injury, the symptom. Not just temporary mended and managed until the next explosion.

We spend most of our days focused outwardly, while healing asks us for silence, space & inward reflection.

Healing Prompt: Take 3 mins in am & pm of silent gratitude filled thought directed at your body/brain/nervous system/mind/spirit and rest in stillness for another 3 after. Listen for any messages/thoughts that arise in this stillness (this is how our body communicates to us.) Trust what you receive and soak in that wonderful energy of appreciation.

HH-Daily Essentials For Health & Connection You May Want To Try

Our daily habits drastically shape our lives and profoundly impact our quality of life. Self-love, self-care, and mindful intake are needed for us all to thrive, giving and receiving in balance with life around us. We do this in balance by nurturing ourselves first. Our habits matter for our health and also create a ripple effect of inspiration and positivity for our children and those around us.

1. Before getting out of bed, thoughts of gratitude & conscious intentions are set for the day.

2. A few minutes of hands-on heart, conscious breathing becoming present in the body.

3. Hugs, snuggles & moments of deep connection with partner, family & loved ones and/or pets

4. Am sunlight or vit D lamp if in northern hemisphere certain times of year

5. Drinking Water with salt & electrolytes, if possible, before anything else is consumed.

6. 5 Mins Of ‘The Big 6’ Lymphatic opening on body.

7. 10-15 mins Movement exercises of your desire —movement is life.

8. Walking — 2 times daily, try for 8000 steps daily (If not able, work up low & slow with a goal of 5000 min or focus on further safe movements for disabilities or injury)

9. Spend time in nature—in your yard or near a park, gardening, with your children or animals, and with some plants/trees.

10. Quiet time — intuitive check-in, presence connecting with self/god/source/creator

11. Family & Friend Contact/Connection making play & relationships a loving priority.

12. Spend time away from devices, offline, without a phone or computer, not answering to anything but the moment as much as possible.

Healing doesn’t finish once you get to some level of understanding. It’s always happening. Even if you are directly antagonizing it with all forms of medicine, treatments, supplements, herbs, medications and therapies. All of them.

Every symptom is a loaded message. Every injury is a new book. Every response is your next true podcast to listen to. As you start to pull apart the message and see what the body wanted you to know and see and change, it will immediately start working differently. Just the first step in a direction that makes sense to both you and it and all of you. And the new level of trust and understanding then gets applied to the next days life events, the people, the places, the words, the things, nothing random, everything accounted for.

Something to ask yourself is do you know more about other things in your life more than you know the responses and processes of your own body? If so why? And are you okay with that? The only reason we get to grow, deliver and watch kids grow up is because of our body’s ability to heal itself. The only reason we can even dive into a profession like farming, ranching, military, teaching or music is because of our body’s ability to heal itself. The only reason we get to receive the love from a trusted other, or rescue a pet or observe and engage with doves is because of our body’s ability to heal itself. Master of a craft but not your own body is a lopsided way of life and your body will rise up to hug you in the form of feelings, sensations, symptoms, injuries and realizations. This is not a threat. They’re hugs and loving words after all. Coming from a place of total commitment and unconditional support. Always.
