Educating and Empowering the Children at HOPE Sussex - Katy-Jo & Sadie Single (The People's Reset: UK)

On September 29th, Katy-Jo and Sadie Single spoke at The People's Reset: UK in Bath on the theme "Building Free & Conscious Communities".

Katy-jo has been a professional performer on stage and screen, and dance, drama and singing teacher for over 20 years. She is happily married with 3 beautiful children aged 18, 14 and 11 years.

“I took the step to home educate my first daughter when she was 11 years old and I felt extremely isolated. Since then it has been my mission to bring like minded people together in a community, where we can support one another in bringing our children up with the decent morals and values that are fast disappearing in our society today. The families and people that make the HOPE community are the most generous, loving and inspiring souls you could ever wish to have in your life!”

Katy-Jo teaches drama, dance and singing at HOPE and the HOPE Youth Theatre Group puts on regular performances throughout the year.

Sadie Single is a qualified primary school teacher with 10 years experience, and is a happily married mother of 2 girls and 2 boys, aged from 6 to 14 years.

Being able to educate as a family, share skills and raise our children within a freedom loving and supportive community, is such a blessing, and I am so proud to be a co-founder of this wonderful project?.
Sadie tutors in a variety of subjects, and has a proven track record of delivering well-structured and exciting sessions, and is a popular member of the tutorage team at HOPE.

How to Start Your Own Learning Community - Melissa Kendall (The People's Reset: UK)

On September 29th, Melissa Kendall spoke at The People's Reset: UK in Bath on the theme "Building Free & Conscious Communities".

What is education? We will explore this question by looking at how the problems with the current school and exam system can be transformed through simple and creative approaches to learning that focus on developing skills, encouraging freedom and self motivation, and fostering connection and enjoyment. I will explain how we do this at Griffin Club, and show you how many other education projects and schools around the world are successfully doing things differently.

Melissa is a pioneer in innovative education in the UK. Formerly founder and Director of Lumiar Stowford School, an independent primary school near Bath. She is currently Director of a new education project, Griffin Club, a community-led education initiative empowering young people to learn from real-world experience and personal mentorship. She believes that much of the current education system is too narrowly focused on exams and external affirmation, and that young people need to be given more space and freedom to make mistakes, be creative and follow their own passions. The Griffin Club offers child centred, project based learning for children aged 10-14 years of age from a stunning location in Wiltshire.

Today he helps aspiring and rising Experts, Coaches & Change-makers create magical products, and present them online to a global audience. James has been a featured expert on the BBC and in two books (one published by McGraw Hill). He's lectured on digital entrepreneurship & creativity at the Institute of Contemporary Arts and for MBA Post-grads in collaboration with Cambridge University Judge Business School. How No Dig Liberates the Soil, and Us - Charles Dowding (The People's Reset: UK)

On September 27, 2024, Charles Dowding spoke at The People's Reset: UK on the theme Permaculture & Food Independence.

Digging and turning soil are old-fashioned ways to manage what looks like a difficult issue of starting plants without weeds.

On a farming scale of say more than 2 acres, it’s not easy to avoid some kind of cultivation. However, as gardeners growing intensive vegetables on roughly one acre, 4000 m² or less, it’s feasible to mulch the surface to smother the weeds and then to leave soil undisturbed while growing our plants.
This preserves the soil ecosystem and does not kill any soil inhabitants.

The wonderful success of this method has led me and many to question why we are instructed to proceed in certain ways. And the essence of that last sentence is what I want to explore a lot in my talk, after I give a brief how to.

Local Food: Getting It Together - Angus Soutar (The People's Reset: UK)

On September 27, 2024, Angus Soutar spoke at The People's Reset: UK on the theme Permaculture & Food Independence.

Permaculture has a philosophy of trusting in the natural world and in the innate creativity of human beings to care for it. The idea behind permaculture is the harmonious integration of landscape and people providing their food, energy, shelter and other material and non-material needs in a sustainable way. In practice this often means creating systems that ensure a sufficient supply of healthy food to local communities, with minimum external inputs. Angus will share some of his experiences "from the field" and will issue a rallying cry for the task of building local food systems that will not only assure food security but could also help jump-start new local economies.

Angus Soutar is the Principal and founder of the Northern School of Permaculture. He is a qualified permaculture designer with 35 years of permaculture experience, often in community settings. Prior to that he had a career in the energy industry.

The Four Horsemen of the Mental Health Apocalypse - Patrick Holford (The People's Reset: UK 2024)

Few people realise the catastrophic decline in mental health that has occurred over the past 50 years. 43% of the world's population have disability due to brain related disorders. ‘Brain health conditions have become a global health emergency,’ according to the Federation of European Neuroscience Societies last year.

Globally, 15 percent of all disability is due to brain and mental health disorders. The lifetime cost of Alzheimer’s in 2022 was estimated to be €1.2 trillion across the EU, exceeding even cancer and heart disease. But most worrying are the trends of falling IQ at a rate of about 7 percent a generation. On this flight path, by 2080, more than a third of children will be neurodevelopmentally impaired. Why? Most importantly what can we do to reclaim our brain and mental health?

Psychologist and nutritionist Patrick Holford, author of Upgrade Your Brain and founder of the Food for the Brain Foundation, unpacks four biological drivers directly under your control to upgrade your brain and demetian-proof your diet.

Originally trained in psychology. He is the author of 46 books, translated into over 30 languages, including The Optimum Nutrition Bible and his latest book Upgrade Your Brain He is a retired visiting professor at the University of Teeside and is in the Orthomolecular Medicine Hall of Fame.
