Plutoโ€™s Gate or Ploutonion at Hierapolis is a religious location in Modern Turkey dedicated to the God Pluto founded 2nd Century BC. The site was built on top of a cave which emits toxic gasses in relation to its use as ritual passage to the underworld. Animals were sacrificed by throwing them by rope into the cave and pulled back in as they passed from the fumes. To this day animals have been found dead wandering around this area. Ancient writers Strabo, Cassius Dio & Damascius described the area. The cave is small enough for one person to squeeze through by then theyโ€™d be suffocated by the gasses. For that reason, it was thought by the ancients that Pluto had connection to this area.

It is profane to offer meat to the Gods that has been slaughtered and blessed under the Kosher and Halal laws, as these are ritual slaughtering methods which include prayers to dedicate the animal to a foreign god.

If you are going to offer meat, find a farm that does it without such methods โ€” or raise it and slaughter it yourself.

Many new agers of the brosatru crowd have a hard time accepting that Germanic heathens did in fact kneel before their gods. This is attested many times from histories, to the Eddas, and sagas. All polytheistic religions had forms of prostration, all people found it acceptable to do so before their gods.

This Grevensvaenge figurine is dated from 800-500 bce. Depicting a kneeling figure. The second image of a of a Roman bronze statue of a Germanic man with a Suebian knot, also kneeling.

"Another observance shows their reverence for this grove. No one may enter it unless he is bound with a cord, by which he acknowledges his own inferiority and the power of the deity. Should he chance to fall, he may not raise himself or get up again, but must roll out over the ground. The grove is the centre of their whole religion. It is regarded as the cradle of the race and the dwelling-place of the supreme god to whom all things are subject and obedient. The Semnones gain prestige from their prosperity."
-Tacitus' Germania

"The moment their boats reach this dock every one of them disembarks, carrying bread, meat, onions, milk and alcohol (nabฤซdh), and goes to a tall piece of wood set up <in the ground>. This piece of wood has a face like the face of a man and is surrounded bv small figurines behind which are long [10] pieces of wood set up in the ground. <When> he reaches the large figure, he prostrates himself before it and says, "Lord, I have come from a distant land, bringing so many slave-girls <priced at> such and such per head and so many sables <priced at> such and such per pelt." He continues until he has mentioned all of the merchandise he has brought with him, then says, "And I have brought this offering," leaving what he has brought with him in front of the piece of wood, saying, "I wish you to provide me with a merchant who has many dฤซnฤrs and dirhams and who will buy from me whatever I want <to sell> without haggling over the price I fix." Then he departs. If he has difficulty in selling <his goods> and he has to remain too many days, he returns with a second and third offering. If his wishes prove to be impossible he brings an offering to every single one of those figurines and seeks its intercession, saying, "These are the wives, daughters and sons of our Lord." He goes up to each figurine in turn and questions it, begging its [11] intercession and grovelling before it. Sometimes business is good and he makes a quick sell, at which point he will say, "My Lord has satisfied my request, so I am required to recompense him." He procures a number of sheep or cows and slaughters them, donating a portion of the meat to charity and taking the rest and casting it before the large piece of wood and the small ones around it. He ties the heads of the cows or the sheep to that piece of wood set up in the ground. At night, the dogs come and eat it all, but the man who has done all this will say, "My Lord is pleased with me and has eaten my offering."
-The Rusila of Ibn Fadlan

"There was one thing in him which the King disliked, and one only: he would never bow down to heathen Gods, and he set his mind firmly against all sacrifice."
-Olaf Tryggvasson's Saga ch. 57

"And when he got to the assembly, then some of the farmers had arrived. Then they saw a great multitude of farmers coming to the assembly and carrying between them a huge image of a person, adorned with gold and silver. And when the farmers that were at the assembly saw that, then they all leapt up and bowed down to this monstrosity. After that it was placed in the middle of the assembly field." -Olafs Saga Hins Helga ch. 113

" The same thing is said about the decoration of รžorgerรฐur Hรถlgabrรบรฐur: They then went to the temple and the earl all fell to the ground in front of her statue. There he lay for a long time. wanted to get hold of her, but it seemed to Sigmund that she had bent the spear, and the earl took a great deal of silver." -Fรฆreyingasaga ch. 108

Revivalism 115

Paganism & Media

In the very first stanza of the Havamal, Odin says, "At every door-way,
ere one enters,
one should spy round,
one should pry round
for uncertain is the witting
that there be no foeman sitting,
within, before one on the floor."

From this stanza, the application is quite clear, to be cautious and aware of ones surroundings. Thus, being aware of the dangers of the outside world is abiding by Odin's will.

In stanza 23, Odin also says, "The unwise man is awake all night,
and ponders everything over;
when morning comes he is weary in mind,
and all is a burden as ever."

From this stanza, the application is to not be worrisome, which is all too common when one absorbs too much negative media.

Pessimism & nihilism are the unfortunate effects of the modern-media industrial-complex. As Pagan people, we should be aware of the dangers and goings-ons of the world, but not to the point where you worry all the time.

Letโ€™s talk Yule! Every year we get the same question: how do we calculate Yule? It used to be that people simply followed the Wiccan Wheel of the Year (and some still do), and celebrated the holiday at the solstice. Although there is a way to calculate the holiday with the solstice, this defeats the idea of what we know the holiday is: the festival of the Sunโ€™s return. But what does that mean? Iโ€™ll go over that below. Right now, it should be noted that the sun absolutely does not โ€œreturnโ€ at the solstice. Not in any climate. Not in any tradition. The solstice is the longest night of the year, so in effect the Sun โ€œdiesโ€ at this time, and is seen less than at any other time of the year. Some believe that the popularity of this stems from the close proximity of the solstice to December 25th, but this is because the Christian King Hakon the Good changed the original Yule in January to that of the Christian festival. Letโ€™s look at the three ways one could calculate Yule:

The Polar Night/Solstice: from the ancient Greeks to Adam of Bremen, there are accounts describing a period of darkness in which the sun disappears in the Northern climates. This is always tied to a particular place, namely Thule in the southerly accounts, and Helgaland (Holy Land) in Adam of Bremen. One could even use Helgaland as their starting point. But this is difficult because the Polar Night can last any where from a few days to a few months, and you would zero consistency in your yearly tradition. A remedy to this could be to begin with the Solstice (which Snorri gives us a description of), and count down a number of days to the point of Yule.

Misseri: the Misseri Calendar of Iceland is the most attested, well known calendar that can be traced to heathen times. Although the name was adapted rather late, the usage of a week based calendar system goes back into antiquity. Given that we celebrate Yule as Midwinter, then the date must begin the month of รžorri, which starts on the Friday between Jan. 19-26. This is a later adaptation for this beginning on the Friday of the 13th week of Winter, starting at Vetrnรฆtr.

Lunisolar: although not much is known about a Lunisolar calendar, there are bits of evidence here and there pointing to the idea that one may have had a purpose. Using Nordbergโ€™s analysis, one then celebrates Yule on the first full moon, following the new moon after the winter solstice.

No matter how you celebrate the season, I hope you all have a joyous one and that holy blessings are bestowed upon you all. Hail the Gods!

A core belief in Pagan theology is that time is cyclical. All you have to do to confirm this is to go outside. You will see the day-night cycle, the lunar cycle, the seasonal cycle and even the procession of the constellations, which were known to the ancients. Some would say that, "this is an anthro-centric perspective and has no objective truth." Physics says otherwise.

Henri Poincarรฉ was a French polymath and physicist who discovered a law of nature that, "in a confined space, with a set number of particles, they will return to their initial position in a finite time."

The implications of what Poincarรฉ proved is that it is inevitable that time and the matter therein will repeat itself. Each particle will be in the exact same position as they were, in a specific time dictated by the size of the vessel and number of particles within.

What it also shows is the reality of the ancient Pagan concept of fate. For if it is inevitable that each particle will inevitably return to its original position, free will or pure randomness can't be true.

"The Norns weave the fates of all."

Thus, by doing mathematical inquiry and statistical mechanics, Poincarรฉ provided a mathematical and natural law that confirms two Pagan maxims (cyclical time and fate). The amount of time that needs to elapse for our universe to repeat is 10^10^10^10^2.08 years. It is an incredibly long amount of time, but it is finite.

Truly, it can be said that the more we know about the intricacies of the world that we abide, the more it only shows that Pagan theology was correct and not metaphorical all along.

Gods guide your footsteps, literally. One of the many reasons why Pagan Revivalism is inevitable.

The Harri, a Germanic tribe briefly mentioned by Tacitus, were said to be the most powerful of the Lugian group of states. They dominated large parts of Germania in the region of present day Poland and eastern Germany.
Tacitus writes in Germania:

As for the Harii, quite apart from their strength, which exceeds that of the other tribes I have just listed, they pander to their innate savagery by skill and timing: with black shields and painted bodies, they choose dark nights to fight, and by means of terror and shadow of a ghostly army they cause panic, since no enemy can bear a sight so unexpected and hellish; in every battle the eyes are the first to be conquered.

COLE WOLFSSON

There's a reason why the American wild-west has had such great appeal. Not just in the states, but even abroad. I'm almost certain that it taps deep into ancient blood memory.

It also harkens to ancestral morality. I.e. it was a time when if our folk were attacked, we struck back hard and didn't turn the other cheek.

"A wayfarer should not walk unarmed,
But have his weapons to hand:
He knows not when he may need a spear,
Or what menace meet on the road."
Odin - Havamal - 38

That ancestral wisdom was needed in the wild-west, in antiquity and even today. Divine, timeless and practical wisdom indeed

THE BARDIC TRADITION:

Since long before the written word the Celtic world had the Bard, the story-teller. Every Celtic village and tribe had a bard, who would preserve the lore of their people and community. As the families gather around the communal fire, participate in a feast or gather in tribal council there too was the local bard; telling epic stories of the Gods and the Ancestors which inspired the minds and hearts of all.

The responsibility of the Bard was significant, for in their words came the history of our people, of ages past or yesterday, and of the immortal Gods.

Today we are without these great men. The position of the Bard has been replaced by machines, the government, corporate and political propagandists who seek to twist and manipulate our pasts to obtain power, which in turn they will wield maliciously against us. It is important we take a moment to remember that within us still remains the Bardic tradition. And we have the power to give it life once more.

You can see nature spirits everywhere if you just pay attention.

Look in the bark and roots and see their faces. Tube your ears to the rustling leaves and hear their music. Take a deep inhale and you might just catch a hint of pipe smoke. It's all around you, you don't have to even be deep in the forest to feel it.

It's enough to just be present, to alter your own consciousness so that the plane of time on which you exist overlaps with their own.
