🌍 Joint Awareness Message from The Ethiopian Dental Professionals' Association & Care Epilepsy - Ethiopia 🌍

As we approach World International Epilepsy Day on February 10, 2025, we emphasize the importance of understanding and providing appropriate dental care for patients with epilepsy. Here are Essential Considerations for Dental Care in Epileptic Patients:

1. Seizure History:
Understand the patient's seizure type, frequency, and triggers. This knowledge helps tailor treatment plans and anticipate potential issues during appointments.

2. Medication Management:
Be aware of the patient’s anti-epileptic medications, as some can affect dental treatment (e.g., causing gingival hyperplasia). Consult with the patient’s physician if needed.

3. Anxiety Reduction:
Many patients with epilepsy may experience anxiety about dental visits. Use calming techniques and allow for breaks during procedures to help alleviate stress.

4. Infection Control:
Monitor for any oral infections or complications, as patients with epilepsy may have a higher risk due to medication side effects or seizure-related injuries.

5. Emergency Protocols:

Dr. Mutassim Elnager is a Consultant of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at King Fahad Military Medical Complex, Dhahran, Saudi Arabia. He previously served as an Assistant Professor and Consultant of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at King Khalid University, KSA, and Rabat National University, Sudan. Dr. Elnager holds a Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) from the University of Khartoum, a Clinical MD in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery from the Sudan Medical Specializations Board and a Diploma in Research Methodology and Biostatistics from the University of Medical Sciences and Technology. He is certified by the German Board of Oral Implantology (GBOI) and the Arab Board for Health Specialties, and he is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland in Oral Medicine and Oral Surgery. He completed an AO Craniomaxillofacial Fellowship in Freiburg, Germany,in 2018.

📚 Dr. Mutassim has made remarkable contributions to the dental field, particularly through his innovative work on Modified Micro-Marsupialization for Primary Ranula, a procedure advancing the care of patients with this condition. His dedication to improving global oral health is an inspiration! 🌍

በቢሸፍቱ ከተማ በጤና ሚኒስቴር የጤናና ጤና ነክ ተቋማት እና ባለሙያዎች ቁጥጥር መሪ ስራ አስፈፃሚ ፣ የጤና ሚኒስቴር ከፍተኛ የስራ ሀላፊዎችና ባለሙያዎች፣ የክልል፣ የከተማ አስተዳደር፣ የከፍተኛ ትምህርት ተቋማት ተወካዮች፣ የሙያ ማህበራት እና ጥሪ የተደረገላቸው ባለድርሻ አካላት በተገኙበት በመድረኩ ላይ የሀገር አቀፍ የጤና ተቋማት አገልግሎት አሰጣጥ ደረጃ ዳሰሳ ጥናት ሪፖርት እና ድንገተኛ የጤና ተቋማት ቁጥጥር ሪፖርት ቀርቧል።

በቀረበው ጥናት ላይ እንደ ግኝት ከተለዩት ውስጥ የሙያ ፍቃድ ሳይኖራቸው እንዲሁም የሙያ ፍቃዳቸውን ሳያድሱ የሚሠሩ የጤና ባለሙያዎች መኖራቸውን፣ በትክክል በማይሠሩ የህክምና መሣሪያዎች ህክምና የሚሰጡ ጤና ተቋማት እና የሽረት ጊዜአቸው ያለፉ መድኃኒቶችን እና የላቦራቶሪ ሪኤጀንቶችን የሚጠቀሙ መኖራቸው፣ በድንገተኛ እና በወሊድ የህክምና አገልግሎት ክፍሎች ለስራ ከተመደቡት ባለሙያዎች ውስጥ ቁጥጥር በተደረገበት ወቅት ብዙዎቹ አለመገኘታቸውንና እና መሰል ችግሮች ቀርበው ውይይት ተደርጓባቸዋል።

በቀረበው ሰነድ መሰረት አስገዳጅ የሆነውን የአገልግሎት አሰጣጥ ስታንዳርድ በማሟላት ረገድ በጥናቱ የተካተቱት Dental Speciality ክሊኒኮች አረንጓዴ ደረጃን የያዙ ሲሆን የDental Medium Clinics አተገባበር ደግም በአብዛኛው በቢጫ መደብ ውስጥ እንደሚመደቡ ተገልጿል ።

ጥናቱ ጠንካራ እና ደካማ ጎናችንን ያየንበት፣ በወጣው የአገልግሎት አሰጣጥ ስታንዳርድ(ደረጃ) የመጠቀምና የመቆጣጠር ልምዳችንን ማሳደግ እንደሚገባ ያስተዋልንበት፣ ተቋማቱን በመደገፍና በማገዝ ሁላችንም የበኩላችንን ማድረግ እንደሚገባ የተገነዘብንበት ነው በማለት በተለይ የሙያ ማህበራት የራሳችሁን ድርሻ መወጣት ይጠበቅባችኃል ሲሉ የጤና ሚኒስቴር ሚኒስትር ዴኤታ ወ/ሮ ፍሬህይወት አበበ አሳስበዋል።

በጤና ሚኒስቴር በጤናና ጤና-ነክ ተቋማት እና ባለሙያዎች ቁጥጥር መሪ ስራ አስፈፃሚ አቶ እንዳልካቸው ፀዳል በበኩላቸው ጥናቱ ላይ የተሳተፉትን ባለሙያዎች አመስግነው የአገልግሎት አሰጣጥ ስታንዳርድ መኖር ሀገር አቀፍ የጤና አገልግሎት አሰጣጥ ስርዓት እንዲይዝ ያደርጋል። ለኛ በግልም በመንግስትም የጤና አገልግሎት መስጫ ተቋማት የሚገለገለው ህዝባችን ነው። የቁጥጥር ስርዓታችንን እኩል መስራት ይጠበቅብናል ሲሉ ገልፀዋል።

በቀጣይም ሁሉም ተቋማት ራሳቸውን ከአገራዊ እስታንዳርዱ ጋር ለመናበብ ራሳቸውን በራሳቸው የሚቆጣጠሩበትን የአሰራር ስርዓት (Self Regulation) ተግባራዊ ማድረግና በተለይም ደግም የሙያ ማህበራት ይህንን በማገዝ ረገድ ጉልህ ሚና እንዲወጡ መልዕክት ተላልፏል ።

A New Dental Clinic for Cleft Lip and Palate Patients was Launched at Jimma University Medical center.

This brings about a Specialized dental clinic at Jimma University Medical Center, dedicated to providing comprehensive care for cleft lip and palate patients.

This clinic is established in partnership with Operation Smile as part of a holistic approach to cleft care, ensuring patients receive essential treatments, including dental, surgical, and rehabilitative services.

The clinic will not only improve access to care for patients but also serve as an invaluable learning opportunity for dental students at Jimma University.

Students will gain hands-on experience in treating cleft-related dental issues, enhancing their clinical skills and understanding of multidisciplinary care.

ይህ መድኃኒት በሕጋዊ መንገድ በባለስልጣን መስሪያ ቤታችን ያልተመዘገበ በመሆኑ ጥራቱ፣ ደህንነቱና ውጤታማነቱ አይታወቅም።በተጨማሪም ፣ የዚህ መድኃኒት የጎንዮሽ ጉዳቶች የምግብ ፍላጎት ማጣት ፣ ተቅማጥ ፣ የሆድ ህመም ፣ ማቅለሽለሽ ፣ ማስታወክ ፣ እንቅልፍ ማጣት ፣ ድካም፤ የእይታ መዛባት፤ መፍዘዝ ፣ ራስ ምታት ፣ የቆዳ ሽፍታ ፣ የጉበት ኢንዛይሞች መጨመርና ለረጅም ጊዜ ጥቅም ላይ ሲውል የኩላሊት ጉዳትን ያጠቃልላል። ጥናቶች እንደሚያሳዩት ይህንን መድኃኒት ለረጅም ጊዜ መጠቀም ከባድ የጉበት፣ የኩላሊት ጉዳት፣ የልብ ድካም እና ስትሮክ የመያዝ እድልን ከፍ ሊያደርግ ይችላል።

በመሆኑም ህብረተሰቡ ይህንን መድኃኒት ከመጠቀም እንዲቆጠብ እያሳሰብን መድኃኒቱን በአካባቢዎት ካገኙ በነጻ ስልክ ቁጥር 8482 ደውለው ለኢትዮጵያ የምግብና የመድኃኒት ባለስልጣን ወይም ለክልል ጤና ተቆጣጣሪ አካላት እንዲጠቁሙ በአክብሮት እንጠይቃለን።

🌍🦷 World Antimicrobial Awareness Week (AMR) 2023 🦷🌍

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) occurs when bacteria, viruses, fungi and parasites change over time and no longer respond to medicines, making infections difficult to treat and increasing the risk of disease spread, severe illness and death.

From November 18-24, EDPA joins the global campaign to raise awareness about Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) and promote best practices across all sectors, including dental health care!

As dental professionals are responsible for 10% of antibiotic prescription, they have a significant role in preventing AMR by optimal use of antibiotics. By adhering to guidelines for responsible antibiotic use and implementing infection prevention measures, we can ensure that patients receive safe and effective care.

Let us all be committed to delivering quality and equitable services to all communities. It is our responsibility to educate patients on the importance of oral hygiene, reducing the need for antibiotics and helping to prevent drug-resistant infections.
