🐟 🧧Fish is broadly considered one of the must-have dishes to savour during the Chinese New Year season, especially at the family reunion dinner. The Chinese word for fish, “yu,” sounds the same as the word for “additional” or “surplus” – therefore, having fish symbolises having abundance in life.

#明天大年初九是农历新年的重大日子之一
🎋Tomorrow’s 9th Day of Chinese New Year has a special meaning, especially to Chinese of the Hokkien clan. It is said that once long ago the clan nearly faced decimation in the hands of enemies, and the last of them survived by hiding in sugarcane fields, and only managed to emerge on the 9th day of CNY. It also coincided with birthday of the ruler of dieties, Jade Emperor (Ti Gong). Thus, it became a day of thanksgiving and celebrations. May the year brings peace and joy to all Sarawakians.
🎋明天大年初九是农历新年的重大日子之一，尤其是福建籍贯认为“天公大过年”。今晚会见到许多摆设祭坛隆重庆祝天公诞，感恩天公庇佑。如今所有籍贯人们也会一起在年初九拜天公，祈求新年平安、健康和幸福。祈求天公保佑国泰民安吉祥🙏

#正月初七 #岁岁平安 ｜Day-7 of Chinese New Year is also called “Day of Humanity”. While in the old days, it is said that it’s the day of birth for all humanity, today it’s a good reminder to focus on our commonality (rather than differences). It is customary to savour dishes like Lei Cha, 7-Vegetable Broth, or Yee Sang, taking the opportunity to gather and acknowledge each other with offering of well wishes.

Li Chun (#立春 Lìchūn) symbolises the flourish of life. It is a day that the Chinese community traditionally marks the starting of the year’s cycle-of-nature, based on generations of observing the solar movement in relation to Earth (beyond the lunar calendar date). Customary for kids to try stand the egg upright (even though it’s possible to achieve this all year long), and more locally, around this period coinciding with CNY’s first week, it’s the mix tossing of the “yee sang” dish, a custom known as “lou sang”.

#携手重建开始 ｜Though more and more PPS are closing down in Sarawak, we need everyone to play their role and do their parts, to step up and step forwards for the massive cleanup, the rebuilding whatever is damaged and get back to the “normal” life again.
Pls do donate generously to SDMC so that the money can be channeled and accounted for the various initiatives in repairs, rebuild etc, together we shall make it again‼️
Thanks all the Federal and Sarawak Gov agencies, the volunteers, the NGO for continue to ensure those victims in PPS are well look after.

Australia Day 2025 & 70th Anniversary of the Australian Mission in KL
Celebrated with H.E. Ms Danielle Heinecke, Australian High Commissioner to Malaysia, and YB Senator Saifuddin Nasution, Minister of Home Affairs.

H.E. Danielle highlighted that Malaysia has over 300,000 Australian alumni, many benefiting from initiatives like the Colombo Plan, contributing to talent development in Sarawak and Malaysia.

As an Australian education beneficiary, I completed my first year of medical school at Monash in 1985, followed by postgraduate training at Alfred Hospital (1993) and Monash Medical Centre (1994).

#古晋夜里另一个地标 | The LED roof lighting of City Hall of Kuching City South Council (#MBKS) - another landmark in Kuching @ night.
Admired the LED lighting of Tokyo, HK and the latest many cities in China especially Shanghai. During my visit to Shanghai last year, the city government officer in charge of licencing, lighting shared with me the various aspects of the LED lighting along both sides of 4km of The Bund. It was an eye opener for me as I learnt so much including some terms I heard for the first time like light pollution, etc.
Looking forward to have more LED lightings in various part of Kuching.

I would like to caution everyone out there to beware of an AI "deepfake" video that cloned my image and voice to say words I have never spoken before, and selling a non-existent cure.

The deepfake video, currently hosted on Facebook account "Ilike Fitness", features a fake Dr Sim (and fake Jaclyn Victor) giving testimonial and speaking of a fictional "new formula" to help patient cure and "free from arthritis forever".

There is no such thing. It is not only promoting FALSE MEDICAL INFO, it is also SCAMMING social media users to part with their money, and selling an illegal and potentially harmful FAKE medicine/treatment.

The scammers used AI technology to mimic my voice and image, transforming an old footage from an interview I originally did with TVS back in 2020. ( The actual interview where I was impersonated from: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ro0wnnMy3iU )

Like I always caution everyone about AI and deepfakes on social media, this is certainly not the first time, nor will it be the last. Let’s stay vigilant in this era of AI and social media.

Is not just Class Reunion after 40 years but as we approaching 60 year old, we have on average another 20 years (7,300 days) to live.
Given that we sleep 6 hours per day and last 1,000 days in and out of hospital, we only had ~4,500 days useful day left to prioritize what is important in life such as time with your family, class reunion, etc.
After a few years break from fun(d) raising for the multimillion central Mill Hill Block, 2025 is a year of fund raising to upgrade of our SMK St Joseph Kuching central courtyard ~$2 million. Pls help generously.

Launching of MBKS Body-Cam Initiative for Enforcement Officers

This initiative aligns with Premier Abg Jo’s push for Sarawak’s digitalization and SMART cities, enhancing trust and protection for both the public and enforcement officers.

All the local councils in Sarawak will be implementing body-cam for their enforcement officers in stages in 2025.
All these initiatives will greatly increase the efficiency and safety of Kuching with the various integration of the cameras be it from

✳️ Smart traffic lights (1st by MBKS in 2016, ~85 of 150 in Kuching now smart)
✳️ 800 SMA smart cameras at 200+ Kuching sites

🎉 Official Opening of MMA Sarawak & SPMS Office

A significant milestone for Sarawak’s medical fraternity, despite a relatively small number of doctors (4,600):
✳️600 in private practice
✳️~4,000 in government services (MOH, UNIMAS, Armed Forces).

United in mission, medical professionals now have their own office near SGH and Kuching’s private hospitals.

Special thanks to SGH for providing an “MMA Room” since 2011, equipped to support on-call doctors.

Looking forwards to the Sarawak medical fraternity stepping up and stepping forwards to help with our Sarawak’s aspiration on Health Autonomy under MA 63 in the next crucial stage of our nation building towards 2030.

砂拉越医生虽少（~4,600人）：

Congratulations to MMA Sarawak & Dr. Jay Chay for launching “Navigating Sarawak”, a guide for new Medical & House Officers serving in Sarawak.

A timely publication amidst the acute shortage of Medical Officers (200+ contract doctors offered permanent posts, but only ~20 reported for duty in Sarawak due to appeals to stay in West Malaysia).

This highlights the urgent need for Sarawak Health autonomy under MA63.

The Groundbreaking Ceremony of CHKMUS Kidney Foundation Medical & Commercial Building by Premier Abg Jo

Che Hia Khor Moral Uplifting Society (#CHKMUS)-MAA Medicare Dialysis Centre, started in 1998, relocated to Jln Ong Tiang Swee in 2014, serving 280+ patients.

Now, a 9-storey Medical & Commercial Building will support its charity dialysis services.

Sarawak faces ~700 new kidney failure cases yearly, needing ~60 dialysis machines annually.
The leading cause is Diabetes, emphasizing the need for prevention.

Sarawak Gov assists IC “K” holders via the Ministry of Women, Early Childhood, and Community Wellbeing Development.

坐落在古晋浮罗岸的圣彼得天主教堂在平安夜举行首场圣诞节弥撒，吸引大批教友出席。
子夜弥撒不但是圣彼得天主教堂首场弥撒，也被视为启用礼。
圣彼得天主教堂以独特的建设风格，不仅是宗教场所，也被视为古晋的文化地标。该教堂彩绘玻璃是采用欧洲哥德式建筑风格的最大特色，教堂内共有68幅彩绘玻璃，描述耶稣一生中重要的事迹，当中有14幅是呈现拜苦路的情景。
重建后的圣彼得天主教堂，建筑设计不仅给人带来视觉震撼，势必成为古晋文化热门景点之一。

Warm welcome to the Ministry of Health delegation led by YBDS Dr. Dzulkefly Ahmad, Minister of Health Malaysia, to Sarawak for the ANMS and Madani Afiat Sarawak Zone 2024 program.

Since December 2023, we’ve met at least five times to discuss critical health matters, including health autonomy under MA63, setting up a Sarawak Medical Council under MMC, addressing acute shortages of medical officers, securing RM7.8 billion to repair 76% of dilapidated clinics, and NGO-led initiatives like the Sarawak Heart Foundation’s fundraising to enhance cardiac facilities at Bintulu Hospital.

With so many issues to address, it underscores the importance of Sarawak Health autonomy.

热烈欢迎由马来西亚卫生部长拿督斯里祖基菲里率领的卫生部代表团，莅临砂拉越参加“健康马来西亚国家议程探访计划（ANMS）及Madani Afiat砂拉越2024”活动。

Really appreciate for the follow up visit to Sarawak after our visit to CDC HQ @ Atlanta end of August 2024.
Looking forwards to the beginning of technical and collaborative partnership with our currently under construction Sarawak Infectious Disease Centre, the first such facilities in Malaysia.
After COVID19, Sarawak has to be preparing ourselves for the next pandemic. Not going to be caught unprepared.

Each year, Sarawak faces around 300-400 pancreatic cancer cases, with an average survival rate of just 9 months post-diagnosis.

While healthcare is under federal responsibility, it’s the people of Sarawak who face the challenges. Grateful to Sarawak Heart Center colleagues for partnering with the Sarawak Heart Foundation over 20 years, now working on cardiac services at Bintulu Hospital.

Around RM2.1M is needed to upgrade the angiography system for cardiac care in Bintulu—the second of its kind in Sarawak under MOH. Thanks to Bintulu Port’s RM150k donation, we’re close to our goal, with support from more GLCs.

Next, training Bintulu staff to assist visiting PJS cardiologists for interventional procedures. #SarawakHealthcare #SarawakFirst

28th Anniversary of Padawan Municipal Council #MPP 🎉 巴达旺市议会28周年纪念🎉

Celebrating 28 years, MPP continues the legacy of Kuching Rural District Council (#KRDC), one of Kuching’s original councils formed in 1956. With a jurisdiction nearly half the size of Singapore, MPP serves ~300,000 residents across 80,000 properties in urban to rural areas, including N14 Batu Kawa.

Despite challenges like static property tax rates since the 1970s, MPP has excelled, winning:
1️⃣ Top Three 5-Star Municipal Councils (2024 Star Rating Award, $300,000 prize)
2️⃣ Most Sustainable City Award 2024 ($4,000 prize)

Riverbank erosion is a challenge for the many riverside kampung settlements along Sarawak’s many rivers.

For Kpg Tengah Sungai, this is the 3rd section (few years ago, 1st section @ RM600,000. The 2nd section @ RM800,000. Each on different part of the riverbank).

Most of the agenda discussed not applicable to Sabah and Sarawak as we have our own state #autonomy but national agenda like Blue Economy is appropriate for Sabah and Sarawak (biggest in whole of Malaysia), more than that, we must actively defend while at the table. Making our position clear for all sides is important not only for Sarawak but also for national solidarity.
