Bursa Malaysia ETFs: Key Highlights December 2024: Overall global equities edged lower in December as the MSCI World Index declined 2.7% month-on-month (MoM) to 3,707.84pts, reversing +4.5% MoM gain in November. This was attributed to fears of a renewed trade war as U.S President-elect Donald Trump threatened to impose additional tariffs onto China and other countries. Despite the US Federal Reserve trimming its benchmark interest rate by 25bps in mid-Dec, global equities trended downwards after the central bank signalled two rate cuts in 2025, fewer than the four rate cuts in previous projections.
Fuelled by the continuous strengthening of the US dollar alongside uncertainties surrounding the pace of the Fedβs rate cut, the LBMA Gold Price AM trended lower by 2.0% MoM to USD2,610.85 per troy ounce, while GOLDETFβs total volume / value declined 34% and 33% MoM to 970K units / RM3.6 mil respectively.

Bursa Malaysia ETFs: Key Highlights, October 2024
β’ Overall global equities ended on a negative note in October, with the MSCI World Index reverting to a net loss position by closing 2.0% lower month-on-month (MoM) (versus +1.7% MoM in September) at 3,647.14pts. The weakened performance was mainly attributed to growing uncertainties surrounding the upcoming U.S presidential election in November and escalating geopolitical tensions occurring in the Middle East, which prompted investors to exercise a more cautious stance during the month.
β’ With gold being seen as a safe haven during times of uncertainty, the LBMA Gold Price AM extended its gains by closing 4.9% higher MoM at USD2,779.40 per troy ounce. However, GOLDETFβs total volume / value declined by 38.8% MoM and 36.4% MoM to 394K units / RM1.4 mil respectively.

NEW RECORD: FCPO Daily Trading Volume Reaches New High
The daily trading volume for Bursa Malaysia Crude Palm Oil Futures (FCPO) reached a new high of 166,266 contracts traded on 13 November 2024, breaking the previous record of 148,413 contracts traded on 19 September 2024.
The spike in trading volume followed recent developments in Indonesiaβs biodiesel policy. Despite rumours of a delay, Indonesiaβs government reaffirmed its commitment to implementing the B40 biodiesel mandate starting January 2025. Analysts expect that the increase in biodiesel blend from 35% to 40% will drive up palm oil demand, boosting both trading volume and prices as part of Indonesiaβs strategy to reduce fuel imports. Meanwhile, FCPO After-Hours (T+1) trading volume also showed strong performance, closing at 37,863 contracts.

Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB) data shows that Crude Palm Oil (CPO) production declined by 1.35% to 1.80 million metric tons and exports were up by 11.07% to 1.73 million metric tons. Stocks closed at 1.88 million metric tons, representing a month-on-month decrease of 6.32%.
Meanwhile, 2.03 million Crude Palm Oil Futures contracts (FCPO) were traded on Bursa Malaysia in Oct 2024, which is equivalent to 50.64 million metric tons of #CPO, or 28 times of Malaysiaβs production. Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB) data shows that Crude Palm Oil (CPO) production down by 3.80% to 1.82 million metric tons and exports were up by 0.93% to 1.54 million metric tons. Stocks closed at 2.01 million metric tons, representing a month-on-month increase of 6.93%.
Meanwhile,1.63 million Crude Palm Oil Futures contracts (FCPO) were traded on Bursa Malaysia in Sept 2024, which is equivalent to 40.66 million metric tons of #CPO, or 22 times of Malaysiaβs production.

Bursa Malaysia ETFs: Key Highlights, September 2024
β’ Global equities collectively rose in September despite an early-month slowdown triggered by renewed fears of a US recession alongside a global tech sell-off. Growth was primarily stemmed by the US Federal Reserveβs long-awaited rate cut as it trimmed its key interest rate by half a percentage point (50 bps) to the 4.75% to 5.00% range. The US Feds also indicated further cuts to happen before year end. Overall, the MSCI World Index grew further albeit at a slower pace with a 1.7% month-on-month (MoM) growth (versus 2.5% in August) to 3,723.03pts.
β’ With gold being a beneficiary of the US Fed rate cuts, the LBMA Gold Price AM ended 5.0% higher MoM at USD2,650.15 per troy ounce. However, GOLDETFβs total volume / value declined MoM by 32.1% and 32.4% to 643K units / RM2.2 mil respectively.
