Siem Reap’s Museum of Buddhist Artefacts

SIEM REAP β€” There are many ways through which visitors, whether Cambodian or foreigners, can look into the history of Cambodia before, during or after the Angkorian empire. And this includes looking at the sculptures and artefacts of those eras exhibited in museums in the country.

For example, the collection of the Preah Norodom Sihanouk-Angkor Museum in Siem Reap ranges from ceramics of prehistoric times and sculptures in the tradition of Brahmanism, to Angkorian and post-Angkorian statues of the Buddha, which reflect the cultural evolution in the region over the centuries.

Khmer Dictation Charms Both Cambodians and Foreigners

SIEM REAP β€” Lee Dana traveled from Singapore to participate in the second Angkor Dictation Competition, while Rebecca Stoner, a candidate from the United States, has been learning the Khmer language for about two years.

Having spent nearly five years abroad, Dana continues to preserve the Khmer language in various ways. She views the competition as a source of hope for promoting proper Khmer writing, especially after noticing numerous writing mistakes on social media platforms.

For Rebecca, winning a prize was never her goal. Participating in the competition was rewarding enough, as she profoundly appreciates Cambodian culture as a solo traveler.

Over the past two years, Rebecca has been learning Khmer through formal lessons with her teacher and self-study.

A French Archeologist Speaks of the Ancient Secrets Phnom Kulen Has Yet to Reveal

SIEM REAP – Located about 80 km northeast of the city of Siem Reap, depending on the location on the mountain one is going to, Kulen Mountain remains a site still fairly unknown and with a history somewhat incomplete for archaeologists and historians.

Having been the object of less studies compared to the Angkor Archaeological Park over the decades, Mount Kulen remains a place with a great many stories to tell and messages to be deciphered at the site of the former royal palace, the temples, stone shelters and its strange earthworks.

Jean-Baptiste "JB" Chevance, program director of the Archaeology and Development Foundation (ADF), explained during an interview the work he has been conducting on Mount Kulen over the last 25 years or so.

Some of his research has focused on the ancient royal palace and the inscriptions on Mount Kulen. He has also done aerial studies of the mountain using LiDAR.
