የሀገር አቀፍ የመዉጫ ፈተና ትግበራ ከከፍተኛ ትምህርት ተቋማት የሪፎርም አጀንዳዎች አንዱ መሆኑን የሚገልጸዉ የትምህርት ሚኒስቴር ባለፉት ሶስት ዓመታት የፈተና ስርቆትንና ኩረጃን በመከላከል ፍትሃዊነት፣ ታማኝነት እና ወጥነት ያለው አሰራር እንድኖር መመሪያ በማዘጋጀት የቅድመ-ምረቃ መርሃ-ግብር አጠናቀዉ ለምርቃት ለተዘገጁ ተማሪዎች በኮምፒዩተር የተጋዘ የአጠቃላይ መዉጫ ፈተና እየሰጠ ይገኛል።

በዚሁ መሠረት በዩኒቨርሲቲው ትምህርታቸውን ሲከታተሉ የቆዩ ጥቂት የመደበኛና ተከታታይ የትምህርት መርሃ ግብር ተማሪዎችን ጨምሮ 16,679 ተማሪዎች ከግል ኮሌጆችና ዳግም የሚፈተኑ የግል አመልካቾች ወለጋ ዩኒቨርሲቲ  ማዕከል የ2017 አጋማሽ ዓመት የመዉጫ ፈተና እንደሚፈተኑ የትምህርት ሚኒስቴር መረጃ ቢያሳይም በተጠቀሱት ቀናት በሦስቱ የወለጋ ዩኒቨርሲቲ ካምፓሶች የተፈተኑት 14,815 ተማሪዎች መሆናቸዉ የተሰበሰበዉ የተፈታኞች መረጃ ያመለክታል።

በትምህርት ሚኒስቴር የከፍተኛ ትምህርት ተቋማት ብሔራዊ የፈተና ዲሲፕሊን መመሪያ መሠረት በበይነ መረብ የፈተና ሂደት የሚሳተፉ ተፈታኞች የፈተና ህግጋትን አክብረው እንዲፈተኑ ወደ መፈተኛ ክፍል ይዘዉ እንዳይገቡ ክልክል የኤሌክትሮኒክስ ቁሳቁሶችን ጨምሮ በተማሪዎች በኩል የሚታዩ የዲሲፕሊን ጥሰቶችና የሚወሰዱ እርምጃዎች ዘርዝሯል። በዚሁ መሠረት ከጸጥታ አካላት ፈተሻ አልፈዉ በእጅ ስልኮቻቸዉ ሲጠቀሙ እጅ ከፍንጅ የተያዙ እና/ወይም በመፈተኛ ክፍሎች የእጅ ስልኮችን ይዘዉ የተገኙ በሦስቱም የዩኒቨርሲቲዉ ካምፓሶች የ128 ተማሪዎች ዉጤት እንድሰረዝና ከፈተና ማዕከሉ እንድሰናበቱ ተደርጓል። 

ዩኒቨርሲቲያችን ተጠባባቂ ፕረዝዳንት ዶ/ር ተስፋዬ ለማ የመዉጫ ፈተናዉ ያለ ምንም እንከን በስኬት እንድጠናቀቅ በየተመደቡበት ኃላፊነታቸዉን ለተወጡ አካላት ምሥጋና አቅርበዋል።

በመሆኑም ያሉትን ተግዳሮቶች ሁሉ በብቃት በመሻግር ፈተናዉ በስኬት እንዲጠናቀቅ የበኩላችሁን አስተዋጽኦ ላበረከታችሁ፣ ለዩኒቨርሲቲያችን የፈተናና ሎጅስትክስ ግብረሃይል፣ ለፈታኞች፣ ለመረጃ ቴክኖሎጂ (ICT) በለሙያዎች፣ ለመብራት ኃይል በለሙያዎች፣ለግቢ ጥበቃና ደህንነት አገልግሎት እንዲሁም በየደረጃዉ ላላችሁ የዩኒቨርሲቲያችን አመራሮች እና ሠራተኞች፣ ለግቢ ጥበቃ እና ደህንነት ክፍላችን ድጋፍ እያደረጋችሁ ላላችሁ የፌደራል ፖሊስ አባላት፣ለኢትዮጵያ መብራት ሃይል ነቀምቴ ቅርንጫፍ፣ ለኢትዮ ቴሌኮም ምዕራብ ሪጂን እንዲሁም በቀጥታም ሆነ በተዘዋዋሪ ድጋፍ ስታደረጉ ለነበራችሁ ሁሉ የላቄ ምስጋናዬን አቀርባለሁ ብለዋል፡፡

ዩኒቨርሲቲያችን በ101ኛዉ ኮር ሆስፒታል ለአራት (4) ወራት ሲሰጥ ለነበረዉ የመጀመሪያ የጤና ሙያተኞች ትምህርት ለነበረዉ ስልጠና ስኬታማ አንዲሆን በሃሳብና በማቴሪያል ለኢፌዴሪ የሀገር መከላከያ ሚኒስቴር ማዕከላዊ ዕዝ ጠቅላይ መምሪያ ለ101ኛዉ ኮር መምሪያ ላደረገዉ ድጋፍ የምሥጋና ሠርትፊኬት አበርክቶልናል።

#Call_for_MSc_Scholarship (#NORSTIP)
The Norwegian Directorate for Higher Education and Skills (HK-dr) has established a new scholarship scheme (NORSTIP) for students from selected partner countries aiming to foster economic development and welfare in partner institutions running NORHED, NORPART or Erasmus+global mobility cooperation projects. The scholarship aims to strengthen existing collaboration between Wollega University and University of Stavanger, Norway, under the NORHED Program. In the NORSTIP scholarship students will be exempted from paying tuition fees and will receive a moderate scholarship equivalent to the scholarship monthly rate that Norwegian students get from the Norwegian State Educational Loan Fund. Admission to the programs and access to the scholarships is highly competitive. Students must have an excellent academic record and documented proficiency in English to be considered for the NORSTIP scholarship.

For those who have already been employed in our University, application is first submitted to the department; the department selects as much applicants as possible, based on the University's selection criteria; then send it to the academic unit Dean's office; the AC shall convene and select the eligible candidate as per the criteria, and finally send it to the AVP within five days from today. For applicants from outside, the candidate should report to the Academic staff affairs coordinating office in person and submit the application (Administrative Building Third Floor).

#Call_for_Scholarship (Re-Announcement)
As part of INDMET project funded by the Norwegian government through NORHED II, Wallaga University got additional funds for one female candidate at MSc level starting from November 2024.
The scholarship does not create or entitle an employer-employee relationship and hence the grant is without commitments to WU, but the candidates must sign a written agreement with INDMET office to complete the MSc study within two years. In addition, accepted female candidate must also pay tuition fees to WU from her grant.
Employees of WU are exempted from paying tuition fees. However, they must sign a written service agreement with WU for a period of twice the period funded by the project.
Qualification Requirements: To be considered for enrollment in this Master’s program, the applicant must meet the following eligibility criteria:
• # BSc holder from any governmental Universities and must have strong and relevant backgrounds in the Mechanical Engineering discipline
• # Minimum CGPA 2.75
• # Fulfill PG admission requirement of Wallaga University including GAT
Evaluation of applications: Applying candidates’ academic achievements, entrance exam and presentation of BSc project work evaluated at Wallaga University. Selected female candidate will be paid according to the MSc salary scale of INDMET project at Wallaga University.

Pedagogical Skills Training at College of Engineering and Technology Successfully Completed

The Institutional Network for Design & Manufacturing Education and Training (INDMET) Project Office, in collaboration with the College of Engineering and Technology (CET), successfully concluded a three-day Pedagogical Skills Training designed to enhance the teaching capabilities of faculty members. Held from October 30 to November 1, 2024, this training provided instructors with essential skills in Instructional Planning, Active Learning, Assessment of Learning, and Classroom Management. Each topic was meticulously covered by experts from the College of Education and Behavioral Sciences (CEBS) to ensure practical insights that instructors can apply directly in their teaching.

The closing ceremony was marked by a speech from Dr. Ginbar Ensermu, Dean of the CET. Dr. Ginbar expressed his gratitude to the INDMET Project, as well as to the CEBS, for their integral role in organizing and facilitating the training. In his address, he encouraged all participants to actively incorporate their newly acquired skills in creating an engaging, practical-based learning environment for students.

Following Dr. Ginbar’s remarks, Dr. Tefera, Dean of the CEBS, invited participants to provide feedback on the training experience. The attendees responded with heartfelt appreciation, expressing gratitude to INDMET Project, CEBS for organizing such valuable initiative. Participants emphasized the training’s impact on their teaching practices and advocated for the continuation of similar sessions for other faculty members to further the reach of these beneficial pedagogical skills.

The training concluded with a final speech from Dr. Melka Hika, Wallaga University’s Academic Affairs Vice President, who extended his thanks to all organizers, trainers, and participants. Dr. Melka acknowledged the dedication of Dr. Endalkachew Mosisa, the INDMET Project leader at WU, and the CEBS for their outstanding efforts in bringing this training to fruition. He reiterated the importance of ongoing training initiatives to support Wallaga University’s mission of excellence in Applied Sciences, particularly in the field of engineering. Dr. Melka also urged participants to utilize their training to adapt and innovate their curriculum, aligning it with the demands of an applied sciences university.

INDMET Project Short Training and Award Program for Female Engineering Students

On October 25, 2024, the INDMET Project Office organized a short training and award program aimed at celebrating and empowering top-scoring female students from the College of Engineering and Technology. The event was designed to inspire, educate, and recognize the outstanding achievements of these students, while also emphasizing the broader goals of the INDMET project to promote gender equality in engineering education.

The program began with an opening speech by Dr. Endalkachew Mosisa, the INDMET Project Leader. He emphasized the core objectives of the INDMET project, focusing on  gender mainstream initiatives, and he underscored the importance of empowering female students in engineering fields by addressing specific challenges they face and outlining the strategies that the INDMET project aims to implement to support their success. His speech provided a comprehensive overview of the project's commitment in promoting gender equity through education and training.

The program featured insightful training sessions conducted by esteemed speakers from different departments. Dr. Alima Jibril, the Director of the Gender Affairs Directorate at Wallaga University, conducted a session on life skills training. She focused on how female students can develop self-awareness, self-esteem, and self-confidence, as well as strategies for overcoming social and academic challenges. Mrs. Birtukan Asefa from the Urban Planning & Design Department contributed with a session titled "Innovative Female Engineering." She highlighted key aspects such as viewing engineering studies as either a challenge or an opportunity, turning challenges into opportunities, common challenges faced by engineering students, the benefits of studying engineering, and the role of female engineers. She also introduced female role models in the engineering field, fostering an innovative mindset, and discussed ways to develop creativity. This training encouraged participants to see themselves as future leaders and innovators in engineering. Mrs. Meskerem Derese from the Information Technology Department delivered a brief yet impactful session on "Mindset." She covered topics including the concept of mindset, different types of mindsets, exercises for cultivating a growth mindset, setting goals, and embracing challenges. She also shared inspiring stories of great inventions by female engineers, encouraging participants to aim high and be resilient.

The highlight of the event was the award ceremony, where Dr. Endalkachew Mosisa recognized the top three-scoring female students from each batch of the College of Engineering and Technology. These outstanding students received cash prizes as a token of appreciation for their hard work and dedication. This recognition was not only a moment of pride for the awardees but also served as motivation for other students, reinforcing the importance of academic excellence in the pursuit of gender equality in engineering education. Additionally, top three female scorers from the Mechanical Engineering Department were specifically acknowledged and awarded cash prizes for their achievements.

The INDMET Project’s short training and award program was a resounding success, leaving a lasting impression on participants.
