Let's start with the fact that this mobile missile system, like its missile, is completely classified and there is practically no public reliable information about it.

It is known that work on the RS-26 was carried out in the 2000s, and the first test launch was carried out in September of the already distant 2011. Then the trace of the missile completely disappears for a long time. Presumably, this is due to the fact that the RS-26 Rubezh is actually a medium-range ballistic missile (MRBM), which contradicted the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty (INF) in force at that time.

However, with the termination of the INF Treaty in 2019, Russia and the United States have more actively resumed their development of previously banned missiles. And in July 2024, Vladimir Putin said that Russia would consider itself "free from the previously assumed unilateral moratorium on the deployment of medium- and shorter-range missiles."

It is quite possible that behind these words was the deployment of the previously little-known Rubezh as an IRBM, which was used last night against a target in Dnepropetrovsk. Either as a demonstration of capabilities, or as a threat in response to Western countries' permission to strike with their missiles deep into Russia.

According to the expected characteristics, the RS-26 has a launch weight of about 40-50 tons and is capable of delivering 4 separate warheads over a distance of 2,000 to 6,000 kilometers ❌✅✅
