Empowering Uzbekistan’s Healthcare Leaders: A Global Perspective

On 6 January 2025, the Centre for Professional and Lifelong Education at WIUT, in close collaboration with the Ministry of Health of Uzbekistan and the Centre for the Development of Professional Qualification of Medical Workers, launched the second iteration of the "International Experience in Healthcare Management and Public Health Preservation" programme. This initiative aims to develop a talent pool of 120 specialists for the Ministry of Health of Uzbekistan.

The week-long, 36-credit course is part of a broader 306-credit curriculum. It was developed by faculty members from WIUT’s MSc in Public Health Science programme and other key university departments. The curriculum integrates leading international practices in healthcare management, ethics, communication, financing, insurance, digital transformation, and legal frameworks.

By equipping healthcare professionals with a global perspective, this initiative seeks to strengthen Uzbekistan's healthcare sector and establish a highly skilled talent pool to drive systemic improvements nationwide.

📊 III Tashkent Business and Economics Conference (TBEC)

On November 21, 2024, Westminster International University in Tashkent successfully hosted the III Tashkent Business and Economics Conference (TBEC), a prestigious event that brought together scholars, industry leaders, and practitioners from around the globe to discuss pressing issues in economics, finance, and business.

The conference featured 33 speakers from 13 countries, including experts from Belarus, Kazakhstan, India, Pakistan, Cyprus, Malaysia, UAE, Japan, Indonesia, and Italy. Among the distinguished participants was Marco Vivarelli, Full Professor of Economics at the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, Milano, and Director of the Department of Economic Policy.

We proudly introduce Samandar Bobokhonov, a 2024 graduate with a Bachelor of Arts in Commercial Law, whose journey reflects outstanding academic achievements, creativity, and professional growth! 🌟

Samandar’s dedication to excellence was evident throughout his time at WIUT. He completed CIFS with distinction and earned a Certificate of Achievement for Academic Excellence at Level 4, scoring 70+ in all modules. He graduated with First Class Honours, solidifying his academic prowess.

Beyond academics, Samandar made a significant impact on WIUT’s community. He mentored and facilitated students, participated twice in Model United Nations (MUN) – winning the Best Speaker Award on one occasion – and served as an Advisor for the Students’ Union, contributing to Infocom and West TV. His vibrant student life included volunteering at events like the Zakovat Final, Red Bull Dance Final, and Jony Amirsoy’s concert and being an active member of WIUT Unite.

Samandar also gained invaluable experience in his career, interning at the Oliy Majlis Legislative Chamber and Kosta Legal, and working as an SMM manager. Currently, he has been making strides in his legal career, working for over 1.5 years at Settle Law Firm, where his passion and dedication continue to shine.

We were honoured to host a special guest lecture with the two-time Olympic Taekwondo Champion, Ulugbek Rashitov – the star of the Uzbekistan national team and champion of the Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024 Olympics! 🥇🥋

Westminster International University in Tashkent achieved 2nd place in the Ziyo Cup eSports tournament in the Dota 2 discipline, competing against nearly 400 students from Tashkent and the Tashkent region 🎮

Organised by the International Foundation for the Development of Science and Education (Ziyo Forum), this tournament, held from 5th to 7th November at the Cyber Arena, aimed to engage young people in competitive gaming and foster the growth of eSports in Uzbekistan. Participants from 50 state and non-state universities vied for a prize pool of 22.5 million UZS.

The Ziyo Cup reflects Uzbekistan's commitment to nurturing talent in eSports and IT, aligning with the Presidential Decree issued in November 2022, which promotes a safe and supportive ecosystem for eSports. WIUT is honoured to contribute to this exciting landscape and congratulates its students on their impressive achievement in this national competition.

Transnational Education at the Centre of Discussions at the Deep Dialogues Event Organised by the British Council in Manchester, UK 🌐

The British Council's Deep Dialogues event on "Transnational Education: A deeper insight into TNE regulatory and policy environment", an initiative under the British Council's Going Global Partnerships, is taking place this week in Manchester, UK.

Conceptualised as global conversations, Deep Dialogues is an event series that brings together higher education practitioners, leaders and experts from across the world to enable focused discussion around key thematic areas that influence higher and further education worldwide.

The target audience for Deep Dialogues includes policymakers and regulators, heads of apex bodies and regulatory bodies, and higher education institution leaders.

This year, WIUT was represented at the Deep Dialogues event by its Rector, Dr. Komiljon Karimov, who was invited as a keynote speaker. In his keynote, Dr. Karimov shared insights on Uzbekistan's higher education reforms and WIUT's experience in advancing transnational education (TNE) within Uzbekistan and beyond.

The event also features panels on the liberalisation of higher education and its impact on TNE, relevance and education quality, as well as a session dedicated to enhancing inclusivity and outcomes in TNE.

We are thrilled to introduce Akramova Fakhriyakhon, a 2024 graduate with a Bachelor of Arts in Commercial Law, whose journey exemplifies dedication, leadership, and growth! 🌟

Fakhriyakhon has continuously demonstrated excellence in social life. Over the years, she has held multiple leadership roles, including serving as Class Representative (CR) for several years, Advisor for the Students’ Union Secretary, and as a CIFS Facilitator. Her involvement in WIUT’s vibrant community has been significant, as she has been an active member of the Diplomatic Club, participated in the Dance Club, and contributed as a member of WIUT Unite.

Her commitment to fostering growth within the student community extended to her role as a mentor for two consecutive years, helping fellow students navigate their academic and personal journeys. Additionally, she has been an integral part of the Infocom Host team, facilitating communication and events at WIUT.

Having just graduated, Fakhriyakhon has already secured a prestigious position in her field, starting her career as a lawyer at Azimuth Law Firm. Her dedication to commercial law and drive to create meaningful change have quickly set her on a path to success, where she is already making a notable impact.

WIUT at IREG 2024 Conference: Exploring the Impact of AI on Higher Education and Rankings

Dr. Komiljon Karimov, Rector of Westminster International University in Tashkent (WIUT), participated in the esteemed IREG 2024 Conference in Bucharest, Romania. This year's theme, "Artificial Intelligence (AI) Altering HE and Rankings," brought together global experts and university leaders to discuss the transformative effects of AI on higher education and its influence on university rankings.

On October 24th, our students explored the Wings Distribution company. They toured the warehouse, learned about the company’s brands and operations, and enjoyed a career talk with the Unit Manager of Modern Retail. Active students even won special prizes from Wings!

🎯 Financial Literacy Workshop with Kapitalbank
On October 31st, Kapitalbank hosted an interactive workshop on financial literacy. Led by Rustam Sagdullayev, students explored money management and savings strategies, engaging in an exciting game and a lively Q&A session.

💥 InterContinental Tashkent Field Trip
On November 1st, students visited the luxurious InterContinental Tashkent. They explored the hotel’s stunning facilities and learned about career opportunities in hospitality, gaining insights into the industry from the hotel’s team.

Special thanks to all who attended and contributed to the realisation of this platform, crafted exclusively for WIUT students and staff. Aligned with the Presidential Decree DP-6208, issued by the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Freelance Bazaar platform supports initiatives aimed at fostering entrepreneurship, enhancing employment opportunities, and providing meaningful avenues for young people to engage in skill-building activities during their free time.

Attendees examined how the Freelance Bazaar platform facilitates connections with clients and projects, receiving guidance on utilising its features for optimal outcomes. Discussions addressed both global and local freelance opportunities, presenting freelancing as a flexible and enriching path for students to gain practical experience. In alignment with the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Innovations directive (3/15-100, dated 16 October 2024), Westminster International University in Tashkent (WIUT) hosted a preventive event on 30 October. The event, titled "Ensuring Compliance with the Law, Preventing Violations, Crime, Corruption, and Drug Use in Educational Institutions," featured an insightful discussion led by Lieutenant Colonel Arman Aydarov, a postgraduate trainee at the Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

This discussion provided WIUT students with valuable insights into fostering a safe, law-abiding environment and addressed critical topics in upholding integrity and preventing misconduct.

📚 The IV Young Librarians Forum at WIUT: A Significant Event of INFOLIB UZBEKISTAN-2024

On 22nd October, Westminster International University in Tashkent, in partnership with the National Library of Uzbekistan named after Alisher Navoi, hosted the IV Young Librarians Forum as part of the XIII National Information and Library Week "INFOLIB UZBEKISTAN-2024." Held at WIUT's Learning Resource Centre, the forum was a key highlight of the week, addressing the future of library services in the digital era.

INFOLIB Week, running from 21st to 25th October, seeks to strengthen the library community and develop professional skills, with a particular focus on young librarians. These emerging professionals will be instrumental in attracting new generations of readers and promoting a culture of reading across Uzbekistan.

Kickoff of the HR Management Professional Development Course! 💼

We're excited to announce that on 21st October, the Centre for Professional and Lifelong Education (CPLE) launched its intensive HR Management course. Led by Dr. Sitora Inoyatova, an HR expert with 15 years of experience, this course offers a fantastic opportunity for anyone looking to grow in the field.

In the first session, participants were introduced to the core principles of effective personnel management and gained a comprehensive understanding of the programme's objectives and key learning outcomes. Over the next 6 weeks, they'll explore:

Uzbekistan's Healthcare: Building a Strategic Talent Pool

On October 21, 2024, Westminster International University in Tashkent joined forces with the Center for the Development of Professional Qualification of Medical Workers under the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Uzbekistan to launch a programme aimed at developing 120 healthcare specialists across the country.

Mr. Farrukh Sharipov, the Deputy Minister of Health, inaugurated the event with a keynote address. He emphasized the significance of this milestone for the national healthcare system and its alignment with Uzbekistan's long-term strategic goals.

The "International Experience in Healthcare Management and Public Health Preservation" programme is a week-long, 36-credit course within a broader 306-credit curriculum. It encompasses international best practices in healthcare management, ethics, financing, insurance, digital transformation, and legal frameworks.

This initiative seeks to enhance Uzbekistan's healthcare sector by equipping modern professionals with global perspectives, thereby creating a vital talent pool for the country's healthcare system.

The III Forum on Global and National Economic Trends: A Vision for Central Asia 2030 🌍

On October 17-18, 2024, Westminster International University in Tashkent, in collaboration with Tashkent State University of Economics (TSUE), hosted the III Forum on “Global and National Economic Trends: Uzbekistan – 2030.”

As part of this event, WIUT held the highly anticipated conference, “Central Asia 2030: The Future of Regional Cooperation and Connectivity,” on October 18th. Bringing together international and local experts, academics, policymakers, and industry representatives, the conference addressed key issues in regional cooperation, economic integration, and sustainable growth across Central Asia.
