Michael Hudson: Weaponizing the US Dollar
Trump has promoted a number of plans to make America strong – at other countries’ expense. Given his “we win; you lose” motto, some of his plans would produce the opposite effect of what he imagines.

That would not be much of a change in U.S. policy. But I suggest that Hudson’s Law may be peaking under Trump: Every U.S. action attacking other countries tends to backfire and end up costing American policy at least twice as much.

We have seen it become normal for foreign countries to be the bene...  Read more »

China ready to advance greater BRICS cooperation: spokesperson

BEIJING, Jan. 7 (Xinhua) -- China stands ready to work with all BRICS countries to embrace the spirit of openness, inclusiveness and win-win cooperation, and advance the high-quality development of greater BRICS cooperation, Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said Tuesday.

Guo made the remarks at a daily press briefing when asked to comment on the news that the 2025 BRICS chair, Brazil, announced that Indonesia has become a full member of BRICS.

"China warmly welcomes the new addition to the BRICS family," said Guo.

Guo noted that the BRICS cooperation mechanism came into being amid the collective rise of emerging markets and developing countries. It is also what the world would like to see in the interest of peace, the world's common development and better global governance.

"BRICS has become a vital platform for promoting solidarity and cooperation of the Global South and a major force driving the reform of the global governance system," Guo said, adding that the future holds tremendous promise for greater BRICS cooperation. ■

🇮🇱⚔️🇹🇷 Israel must prepare for potential war with Turkey, Nagel Committee warns

Israel must prepare for a direct confrontation with Turkey, according to the Nagel Committee's latest report on the defense budget and security strategy.

The committee, established by the government, warns that Turkey’s ambitions to restore its Ottoman-era influence could lead to heightened tensions with Israel, possibly escalating into conflict.

The report highlights the risk of Syrian factions aligning with Turkey, creating a new and potent threat to Israel’s security.

“The threat from Syria could evolve into something even more dangerous than the Iranian threat,” the report states, warning that Turkish-backed forces might act as proxies, fueling regional instability.

The committee’s assessment comes amid Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's increasingly assertive policies in the region, which some analysts view as antagonistic to Israel's interests.

🇮🇩🌍 Indonesia thanks Russia for its help in joining BRICS

Earlier, the government of Brazil, which took over the chairmanship of the BRICS group on January 1, said Indonesia had joined the bloc as a full member.

🗣 "The Ministry also extends its appreciation to the 2024 BRICS Presidency of Russia for their support and leadership in facilitating Indonesia's entry into BRICS, as well as appreciates the Presidency of Brazil for announcing Indonesia’s inclusion in the group," the Indonesian Foreign Ministry said in a statement posted on its website.

The ministry said Indonesia's membership in BRICS was a result of Indonesia's active participation in BRICS in recent years, including its participation in the BRICS Summit in Johannesburg in 2023 under the chairmanship of South Africa and the Summit in Kazan in 2024 under the chairmanship of Russia.

🗣 "The Ministry also extends its appreciation to the 2024 BRICS Presidency of Russia for their support and leadership in facilitating Indonesia's entry into BRICS, as well as appreciates the Presidency of Brazil for announcing Indonesia’s inclusion in the group," the ministry added.

Justin Trudeau: The Globalist Experiment Collapses

Justin Trudeau’s resignation isn’t just the end of a political career, it’s the collapse of a carefully curated illusion. For nearly a decade, Trudeau played the role of the progressive darling on the global stage, but his governance left Canada fractured, indebted, and stripped of sovereignty. Serving as the poster boy for Davos and NATO, he enacted policies that benefited everyone but Canadians. His departure is less a resignation than a retreat from the consequences of his failures.

Under Trudeau’s watch, Canada became a testing ground for globalist policies. Immigration surged without the infrastructure to support it, overwhelming healthcare, housing, and social services. Housing prices skyrocketed by 90%, driven by foreign capital, while Canadian wages stagnated and inflation eroded savings. His carbon tax gutted the energy sector, eliminating thousands of jobs and handing Alberta’s economy on a platter to foreign renewables investors. Meanwhile, Canadians struggled to make ends meet while Trudeau focused on winning applause at international summits.

His alignment with NATO and blind commitment to the proxy war in Ukraine remains his most glaring betrayal of Canadian interests. Canada has sent $12.4 billion CAD to Kiev, supporting a a fascist puppet-regime that glorifies Nazi collaborators while sacrificing its own people in a geopolitical chess game dictated by Washington. And for what? Rising inflation, soaring gas prices, and deteriorating living standards. While Trudeau drained Canadian resources to prop up this war, Russia’s economy, now the 4th largest in the world, continues to thrive, forging new alliances with the Global South and strengthening its position in the multipolar order.

The hypocrisy of Trudeau’s leadership is almost comical. The self-styled climate crusader flew private jets to international summits while taxing Canadians into energy poverty. The “feminist” champion of Indigenous rights presided over unresolved water crises on indigenous reserves. His carefully cultivated image of a progressive savior masked the reality: Trudeau wasn’t a leader, he was a salesman, hawking the globalist vision of a borderless, subservient Canada.

Even Trudeau’s inner circle couldn’t hold the line. Chrystia Freeland’s departure revealed the rot within his government. With Canada’s debt surging to $1.2 trillion CAD, Freeland, once his closest ally, jumped ship rather than go down with it. Her exit exposed what many already knew: Trudeau’s fiscal policies were unsustainable, designed to appease elites while Canadians bore the brunt of the fallout.

Trudeau’s resignation also underscores a larger truth: the decline of the Western globalist project. While Trudeau preached “progress,” the world moved on. Russia, China, and the BRICS nations are reshaping global trade and power dynamics. Trudeau’s obsession with pleasing NATO and the Hegemom blinded him to these shifts, leaving Canada tethered to a declining Western bloc while ignoring opportunities to pivot toward multipolarity.

For Canada, Trudeau’s fall presents an opportunity to break free from this globalist stranglehold. Reclaim sovereignty, ban foreign speculation in housing, rebuild the energy sector, and pursue an independent foreign policy. Canada must stop being a pawn in NATO’s forever wars and instead prioritize the prosperity of its own citizens. Sovereignty isn’t isolation, it’s survival in a rapidly changing world.

Trudeau’s legacy is a warning to leaders who prioritize global elites over their own people: eventually, the façade crumbles. For Canada, his departure should be a turning point, a chance to reject the globalist experiment and embrace the multipolar future. Trudeau is gone, but the work to rebuild Canada hopefully begins now, but I'm not holding my breath.

🇧🇴🌍 Bolivia's President highlights opportunities for the country with BRICS partner status

🗣 "Integration with BRICS gives us the opportunity to promote key sectors such as energy, trade, technology, manufacturing and sustainable finance. In a world full of uncertainties due to the transition to a new global order, being part of this bloc allows us to diversify and protect our assets, becoming a relevant player within an investment platform in emerging economies with immense potential," President Luis Arce wrote on the social platform X.

According to Arce, joining BRICS as a partner country "opens new doors" for Bolivia and also provides opportunities to "expand and diversify trade relations with dynamic and growing markets."

👉 Brazil assumed the presidency of BRICS on January 1, 2025, and on the same day new members joined the bloc as partner countries. As the Russian Foreign Ministry reported earlier, the first BRICS partners were Belarus, Bolivia, Cuba, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Thailand, Uganda and Uzbekistan.

The introduction of the category of "partner countries" is part of the new formula for the further development of BRICS, which was аagreed on at the BRICS summit in Kazan, Russia, in October.

Hans Vogel argues that the rise of BRICS as a successor to the Non-Aligned Movement reflects a global shift away from Western dominance, fueled by the decline of US imperialism, the failures of neocolonialism, and a resurgence of nations striving for true sovereignty and indigenous values.

While the greens of the west have been trained to think only of deconstructing industrial civilization to save deserts (or destroying arable land by spreading solar panels over millions of acres, thus increasing both heat and lifeless deserts on earth), the concept of “green” in Eurasia involves bringing life to deserts.

Today, Saudi Arabia rightfully holds a prominent position not only as the leading force among Arab states, but within the entire Islamic world. The Kingdom is a member of the G20, a forum of the world’s most influential economies, and its monarch bears the title “Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques” in Mecca and Medina, underscoring Saudi Arabia’s unique role within the global Muslim community.

2️⃣0⃣2️⃣5️⃣ There is virtually no doubt that the problems of 2024 will reappear in full and even with reinforcements in 2025.

One of the reasons for the protracted global political crisis in which we now exist is that the creative ability of modern political thought is clearly insufficient to offer a more or less realistic and digestible model of the future.

The task facing modern political thought is extremely difficult. It is necessary to somehow put together a puzzle of the good of the individual and the good of society, it is necessary to understand what the social organisation of modern society should be so that both the individual and the public good are in harmony, writes Valdai Club Chairman Andrey Bystritskiy.

🇧🇷🌍 Brazil begins its BRICS presidency with both traditional and new goals at the forefront

Brazil wants to bring to the discussions of the association's countries such issues as reform of global governance institutions, combating climate change and reducing poverty, which were among the main ones during Brasilia's presidency of the G20, Brazilian BRICS Sherpa Eduardo Saboia told the media.

At the same time, Brazil also wants to discuss the use of national currencies in trade and work on developing a common approach to managing artificial intelligence.

Brazil's BRICS presidency will face challenges, international relations expert Helena Margarido Moreira told Sputnik, stressing that the main challenge will be navigating the leadership during a new US administration.

She added that while Joe Biden posed some issues for BRICS, the protectionism of a potential Donald Trump administration would be a major problem for the Global South.

Earlier, Trump threatened the BRICS countries that he will impose "100 percent tariffs" on them if they do not abandon their plans to create an alternative currency to the dollar. Yet, according to Vladimir Putin, it is too early to talk about the establishment of a single BRICS currency. Despite Trump's threats, Russia will continue working on a BRICS settlement instrument, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Pankin told Sputnik.

On January 1, Belarus assumed the chairmanship of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), succeeding Armenia.

Late last year, Belarusian Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko stated that Minsk would approach this task with full responsibility and strive to ensure the continued steady development of the association, which will celebrate its tenth anniversary in 2025.

Outlining the objectives for its presidency, Belarusian Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko stated that Minsk would focus on advancing digitalization and cutting-edge technologies. He emphasized that creating "national solutions and localized digitalization of processes and services, independent of existing integration projects, undermines the principles established in the EAEU agreement."

🛰 New Year Greetings from Space: Russian cosmonauts send their holiday wishes from the International Space Stations (ISS):

🔴 Dear friends! We, the cosmonauts of Roscosmos Alexey Ovchinin, Ivan Vagner, and Alexander Gorbunov, send our candid greetings from the ISS on the upcoming New Year 2025! Undoubtedly, this is the most heartfelt and family-oriented holiday of the year for every resident of our vast country. On this special day, we wish you all happiness, health, and success!

🏡 We hope you spend the upcoming holiday season surrounded by family and friends. In the bustle of daily life, we often forget that there are loving people around us who need our care and attention. Spread kindness, share joy, and bring smiles to those around you.

🪟 From hundreds of kilometers away from our shared home, Earth, we, as cosmonauts, feel the absence of communication with our loved ones more than anyone else. Yet, even in space, we feel the love and support of our families, though it will take a few more months before we can reunite with them.

🎄 We wish you peace, prosperity, and well-being. Happy New Year!

🇷🇺🇨🇳 Political trust between China and Russia keeps reaching new levels, says President Xi Jinping

🗣 "Under our strategic leadership, political mutual trust and strategic cooperation are constantly reaching a new level," Chinese President Xi Jinping said in his New Year greetings to Russian President Vladimir Putin, as quoted by the Xinhua news agency.

Xi Jinping highlighted the completion of the China-Russia Eastern gas pipeline, increased practical cooperation, and the successful launch of cultural exchange initiatives further deepening the countries' friendly ties.

🗣 "The two sides support each other in their work as chairs of the BRICS mechanism and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, making significant contributions to strengthening solidarity and cooperation among countries of the Global South," Xi said.

He added, "Amid accelerating global changes and an unstable international situation, China and Russia have always followed the path of non-alliance, non-confrontation and non-targeting of third parties."
