Non-cyclic photophosphorylation occurs in the thylakoid membranes and involves PSII and PSI in a linear electron flow.

PSII absorbs light, excites electrons, and splits water, releasing O₂, H⁺, and electrons. Electrons pass through the ETC, generating a proton gradient that drives ATP synthesis.

At PSI, light excites electrons again, which are used to reduce NADP⁺ to NADPH. Outputs: ATP, NADPH, and O₂ (byproduct).

Cyclic photophosphorylation involves only photosystem I (PSI), which absorbs light at a wavelength of around 700 nm (P700).

In this process, light energy excites electrons in PSI, which are then transferred to an electron acceptor and passed through a series of carriers, including ferredoxin and the cytochrome b6f complex.

This electron transport creates a proton gradient across the thylakoid membrane, driving ATP synthesis through ATP synthase.

The electrons eventually return to PSI, completing the cycle and allowing for continuous ATP production without the generation of NADPH or oxygen.

Enzymology is an important topic for both GATE BT and GATE XL. In GATE BT, it carries around 5-6 marks, and in GATE XL, it is common to both Biochemistry and Zoology sections.
So, make sure to study this unit thoroughly.

Hi Everyone,

There is an exciting opportunity for a project from the Ministry of Steel at IIT Roorkee, which has three Junior Research Fellow (JRF) positions vacant: two for experimental work and one for simulation work.

Candidates will be interviewed, and those who pass will be considered for the JRF position on an ad hoc basis. After three months, based on the candidate's progress in the work, they may receive direct admission into a PhD program along with a permanent JRF position for two years. Following the completion of two years, candidates may then transition to a Senior Research Fellow (SRF) position.

If you are interested in pursuing a dual degree of PhD and MTech, along with the JRF position, please note the following:

- Stipend: 37000 + HRA (9%) for JRF positions, and 42000 + HRA (9%) for the SRF position.
- Essential Qualifications: A CGPA above 7.5 and GATE qualification.

The development of fingerprints is a complex process that involves both genetic and environmental influences.

While the genetic code provides a template, the unique patterns of ridges on each finger are formed through interactions with the environment in the womb, such as pressure, position, and amniotic fluid flow.

These minute variations lead to each twin developing distinct fingerprints, despite having identical DNA.
