Whenever Shaban entered, Amr bin Qays would close his shop and free himself for the recital of Quran.
He would say,
"Glad tidings to whoever rectifies himself before Ramadan."

Month of Preparation and Elevation

• Our deeds are taken to Allah (Sunan an-Nasa'i 2357)– Make sure we’re fasting, praying, and staying on track with good deeds. 

• A bridge to Ramadan – Use Shaban to build habits that will carry you through Ramadan. we can't go from 0 to 100 overnight. Small acts of worship today lead to a stronger Ramadan tomorrow. 

Use this month wisely.

Dispraise of Lying:

Ibn al-Jawzī رحمه الله said:

“The cure of this disease is to know Allāh's punishment for a liar and to be certain that when a person continuously lies he will eventually be exposed one day, then he will be disrespected in such a way that cannot be averted; his shame will increase, earn people's disrespect to the extent that they will not believe him even when he is truthful, and their distrust will exceed beyond what he lied about.”

Is it permissible to stand up out of respect for any national anthem, or any national flag?

It is not permissible for the Muslim to stand up for any national anthem, nor any national flag out of respect. Rather, this is from the evil innovations which did not exist at the time of the Prophet (ṣallallāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam), nor at the time of the Rightly Guided Caliphs (raḍī Allāhu anhum). And this action negates the obligation of the completeness of Tawḥīd, and the purity of respect for Allāh alone, and it invites towards Shirk. And in this action is resemblance of the disbelievers, and blind following of them in their despicable customs, and deviating along with them in their extreme attitude towards their leaders and their ceremonies.

Indeed the Prophet (ṣallallāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) prohibited resembling them and emulating them. And the success is with Allāh. And may the Prayers and Peace be upon Muḥammad and his Family and his Companions.

Shaykh Ibn Uthaymeen رحمه اللّٰه said:

“Strive to distance yourself from anything that brings worry, sorrow, or distress so that you may always remain at ease, with a content and open heart, focused on ALLAH, His worship, and your worldly and spiritual affairs.

If you practice this, you will find relief. However, if you burden yourself with regret over the past or excessive concern for the future in a way not sanctioned by Islamic teachings, know that you will exhaust yourself and miss out on much goodness.”
