I introduced myself, spoke about my academic background, work experience, and hobbies, and explained my motivation for an MBA.

👨‍💼M1: What’s your view on the UP Assembly elections?
I mentioned BJP’s victory with 255 seats, attributing it to their ability to gauge public sentiment effectively.

👨‍💼M1: Why did other parties fail to perform?
I explained that they engaged with the public only around elections, failing to build long-term trust.

👨‍💼M1: Tell us about your work experience.
I detailed my 39-month stint at TCS, working in the Electric Vehicles domain, and how it sparked my interest in business.

👨‍💼M1: What is sustainable living?
I defined it as a way of life that minimizes harm to the environment and other species.

👨‍💼M1: What factors affect a business environment?
I elaborated on the PESTEL analysis with real-world examples, which seemed to impress them.

👨‍💼M1: Where did you learn about PESTEL?
I shared that I proactively sought MBA-related knowledge from friends and wanted to apply these concepts practically.

👨‍💼M1: Which specialization are you inclined towards?
I expressed my interest in marketing and my aspiration to start something of my own.

I explained my transition from an Electrical Engineering background to working in TCS’s Automotive vertical, leading to my desire to explore the business side.

I supported the inclusion of MSP to provide farmers with income security.

I shared my interest in gardening, cooking, and voluntary blood donation.

I asked how I could utilize my time before joining. M2 advised me to read extensively, stay updated on industry trends, and develop a perspective on case studies.

👩‍💼Female Panelist:
1. Asked about my gap year and what I did apart from preparing for CAT.
2. Questioned me on any recent news that could impact our daily lives (I mentioned the repo rate).
3. Follow-up: "According to data, it only saves ₹1,000 for a general consumer. How can it affect our lives?"
My Answer: I admitted I hadn’t looked into the data in depth but explained how lower repo rates make home loans, car loans, and MSME loans significantly cheaper, thus boosting consumption and investment.

👨‍💼Male Panelist A:
4. Asked about fiscal deficit and its current level.
5. How new tax slabs would impact the Indian economy.
6. Follow-up: "How will it affect the government?"
7. Questioned if the new tax slabs could lead to inflation.
8. Asked about Project Finance and IRR (Internal Rate of Return).
9. Queried about depreciation, methods to calculate it, and the types of assets where these methods are applied.

10. Gave a scenario: "Let’s say I have a mutual fund that provided returns of +10%, -5%, and +20% over three years. I don’t want to express these separately; what term can I use to represent the overall growth year-on-year?"

This was one of the more relaxed interviews I had. The panelists were patient and gave me ample time to articulate my thoughts.

Panel Composition:Three male panelists (M, N, K) and me (P).

Extempore

Topic: Online Gaming – Advantages & DisadvantagesTime: 1 min to think, 3 mins to speak.

Points Covered:✅ Advantages:

Enhances social connectivity, especially post-COVID-19 (Example: PUBG).

Studies show improved focus and creativity in gamers.

Provides entertainment and relaxation.

✅ Disadvantages:

Reduces outdoor physical activity.

Increases screen time, especially with online education/work.

Limits real-world social interactions, including family time.

Interview Questions & Responses

M: You have been a basketball player for years. As a sports minister, how would you promote non-cricket sports in India?

P:

Cited a recent pan-India basketball selection tournament for the Summer Olympics 2024.

Suggested introducing a school curriculum exposing children to diverse sports.

Emphasized parental awareness about sports as a career option.

Highlighted how sports inculcate leadership, teamwork, and communication skills.

(Impressed by their patience in listening to my points.)

M: Your CV mentions an active social media presence. From a sociological perspective, how do you view trolling?

P:

Explained how trolling existed even before social media but has now transitioned online.

Discussed how viral trends emerge from online interactions.(Honestly, I just went with the flow here!)

M: You have an Instagram page for your Mehendi Art business. Why pursue an MBA instead of expanding your venture directly?

P:

Acknowledged that while I’ve learned a lot, I lack structured business knowledge.

Expressed a desire to scale my business strategically with proper management skills.

M: How would you maintain a loyal client base while expanding your reach?

P:

Prioritizing high-quality service to stand out in a competitive field.

Ensuring professionalism—punctuality and competitive pricing.

Leveraging content marketing and word-of-mouth promotion.

(He seemed satisfied.)

N: What is influencer marketing?

P: I completely blanked out! 😵 Despite working in influencer marketing, I just couldn’t recall.

N: That’s okay! What business does your father run?

P: Explained his traditional business model.

N: Has he adopted digitalization post-pandemic?

P:

Still primarily traditional but introduced digital payments.

N: Has COVID-19 accelerated digitization? How?

P:

Increase in digital payments due to hygiene concerns.

Online education’s rapid shift. (Not my best answer, but managed.)

N: You’re from Jadavpur University. How would you sell JU to a JNU alumnus?

P:

Highlighted JU’s academic freedom compared to other institutes.

Discussed politically and socially aware student culture (cited past student movements).

Emphasized excellence beyond academics—strong extracurriculars.

(He smiled—seemed satisfied!)

K: You had Maths in 11th-12th but were in the Arts stream. Why?

P:

Passion for Maths and Economics, combined with my interest in Sociology & History.

K: Is there a link between Management and Sociology?

P:

Sociology helps understand societal behaviors, values, and cultural dynamics.

Effective management requires understanding people, leadership, and teamwork.

Final Thoughts

This was my 10th interview of the season, and I realized how experience refines answers. I started structuring responses better, and words flowed naturally—even when I was unprepared. For someone who fears impromptu speaking, this was a surprising revelation!
