QA Preparation Strategy for CAT 2025

First round: Within 2-3 days of learning anything new. Begin your day with revision of whatever you did the last day. Just go through the previous day's notes.
Time Involved: 1 to 2 houra

Second Round: To be done approximately 7 - 10 days after finishing a topic. Revise the chapter notes. Pay special emphasis to the areas which caused you trouble.
Time Involved: 4 - 5 hours

Third Round: About a month after completing a topic. Revise your notes. Refer to any standard coaching material and practice 20 to 25 questions and try solving them. Add anything new learnt to your notes.
Time Involved: 4 - 5 hours

The only thing that is going to be of use to you is to actually do the practice work. Don't look at solutions to serve as a shortcut to you. Don't just watch YouTube videos.

iON Digital Zone Hayathnagar, Hyderabad; Slot 1

I had a terrible experience at my alloted center. I'm a repeater, so I've seen many centers last year as well. This was by far the worst center and exam taking experience I've ever had.

The landline phones kept ringing throughout the exam duration and no one would pick it up right away. They kept announcing multiple times on the loud speaker with high volume that one or two students did not start their exam yet. This is so disturbing to the students who already started their exam and are trying to concentrate. Especially since the first section is VARC and you're trying to read. They were breaking some 200 student's concentration to tell the staff to check on 1-2 people who did not start their exam. There has to be a better system than this.

Secondly, there's too many invigilators, for such a small exam hall. There's an internal lift right in the center of the exam hall, and a staircase around ithe lift well. It was one of those old lifts with two manual metal collapsible gates that we see in old buildings. The center had 4 floors and 4 exam halls, the staff kept moving between the floors the entire duration of the exam. Every single time, they would not close the lift door and there would be noise. The lift kept playing elevator music and asking to please close the door in 3 languages.

Completely broke my concentration during the exam. It was a constant source of noise, not just once or twice. It was at least 20-30 times in 2 hours. I kept reading and re-reading the same thing because I couldn't understand it due to the noise. I had an entire RC left with just 4 mins time. It was not enough time to start and complete a new RC and I completed all other questions in the section. Just 1-2 mins more, I could've gotten to all questions. Noise continued in the next two sections as well. The invigilators kept chatting away like they were at a picnic.

Minimum decency is to not to create disturbance in an exam center. It's unfair to the candidates who have been studying hard day and night for an entire year. After the exam when I was reading about the exam center experiences of other candidates on reddit, I saw that some people had pin drop silence after the exam started and absolutely no distractions. I wish I had a good experience too. This year is my second and last CAT attempt, it could've gone better if I had better center.

Start focusing on SNAP/ NMAT now onwards

But what I can tell is my viewpoint from around a decade of MNC, MBA and being where you were once.

I can assure you that iss point pe, honestly, feeling a fatigue is kind of be expected

ab na bas si ho jaati hai. You have strong for far too long. You have, hopefully, been studying rigorously for far too loong

Ab nahin ho raha. Now you feel exhausted when you look at another question.

Which is why I had mentioned that "nothing but chill for the last two days"

keep yourself busy these last days, light revision and thats it

Go for a walk. Listen to good music - Be it Honey Singh or Arijit Singh. Water your plants. "Netflix and chill".

Mentally Prime yourself to ace the exam that day! Visualise your success!! Imagine yourself having a gala time during the exam!!!

Dont give up now.

Shortcut #3

When we want to keep a product constant and one of the variable is increasing by n/p; its corresponding counterpart has to decrease by n/(p + n)

Ex: In a rectangle, length increases by 40%. By what percentage must breadth reduce so as to keep the area constant.

If area is constant and length increased by 40% = 2/5,

That means breadth should decrease by 2/(2 + 5) = 2/7 = 28.57%

A mock test with indicative questions to understand the format and interface of the examination is now available on the CAT website.

Couple of new lines added this year
1. IIMs have taken additional measures for the security of the examination, including employing mobile jammers in select locations.

2. IIMs reserve the right to change the test date and time, if the situation so warrants.

Traits which harm you

Inconsistency
Move towards your goals step by step. Stick to goals.  Align your actions with words. Do not change goals due to minor difficulties but look for ways to overcome them.

Chronic Pessimism
Pessimism stifles and paralyzes. If you can't see the beauty in the world, fail to notice the good, or appreciate every day, you are limiting yourself.

Lack of Ambition
Not making extra efforts ensures that those just go with the flow, follow aimlessly.

Habit of Wasting Time
Plan your day meticulously and value every minute. Spend even your free time beneficially. Instead of scrolling through social media, learn something new.

1) The question itself is moot as you have been allotted a slot and you are going to have to deal with it. Whether you have to wake up at 5 AM or be stressed till evening is ALL immaterial

2) There maybe changes in the difficulty levels across the slots and it might vary between the sections as well. But that's something which is really out of our control and definitely not something we can predict

3) If all slots were of the same difficulty level, some slots would have an unfair advantage because they would get to work with some feedback as well as extra time to prepare

4) And lastly, a little bit of faith. Every year the exam is conducted for More than 2 lakh students and it would do us well to assume that the CAT convenors know their testing approaches.

Some tips for your mocks in the next 10 days

Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension
1. Start with the RC passages. Skim through the questions first and then read the passages. Allocate 20 - 25 minutes
2. Attempt para-jumbles, para-summary, sentence completion, etc. Allocate 10 - 15 minutes

Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning
1. Quickly go through all the sets to identify the ones you are most comfortable with. Prioritize based on your strengths.
2. Allocate around 10-12 minutes for each set. Be mindful of the complexity of the set and adjust your time accordingly.
3. There might be a set of questions that are slightly more time intensive. Consider attempting them toward the end if you have time left.

Quantitative Ability
1. Skim through all the QA questions and pick the ones that you find easier
2. Don't get stuck on a single difficult question
3. Focus on the topics where you are most comfortable and can score well. Ensure that you attempt a mix of questions from various topics.

General Tips
1. If time permits, use the remaining minutes to review your answers
2. Keep an eye on the clock during the exam
3. If you find yourself spending too much time on a single question, consider moving on
4. Don't panic if you find a section challenging. Stay calm, and focus on the questions you can answer confidently.

1) Stop worrying and Start practicing

2) Practice mocks in your dedicated slot to get your body habituated.

3) If anyone has got a Center out of their preference list, please plan to reach there a day before.

4) Read all the instructions on the admit card very carefully. There are several important ones.

If you click on that option, you can look at the entire section in one go and identify which are the easier Questions or Sets or RCs that you would like to attempt first.
