Measles headlines are everywhere, but what are the facts?

In 1962, the year before a measles vaccine was licensed, the American Public Health Association published a paper called “The Importance of Measles as a Health Problem.”

Top CDC scientists of the day called measles a “self-limiting infection of short duration, moderate severity, and low fatality” concluding it was “best to “learn to live with this parasite rather than hope to eradicate it.”

Happy 120th Birthday Jacobson v. Massachusetts 🎉

Perhaps the current Make America Healthy Again (MAHA) movement is older than it seems. Americans have been fighting for health freedom since the very beginning of our nation. Case in point: 1905’s Jacobson v. Massachusetts, which took a private citizen to task in the early 1900s for refusing to receive a mandated vaccination or pay a fine. The case traveled all the way to the Supreme Court, setting strong precedent for future cases.

Henning Jacobson would likely be encouraged to know that Americans have continued to stand up for our health freedoms across the years. And he’d love the MAHA movement, which has risen from our kitchen tables all the way to the Oval Office!

•AB20 seeks to include symbols on state issued drivers licenses and IDs indicating individual medical diagnoses. This includes storage of your private health information in the DMV database.
•While this bill allows this as an opt in, it’s not hard to imagine, once established it could very easily be required in the future.
•AB20 violates medical privacy
•AB20 is unnecessary and burdensome

Tennessee: SUPPORT HB0022: EXPANDS PUBLIC COMMENT CONTENT

HB 0022 requires that at meetings subject to open meeting laws, people shall be allowed to speak on any issue relevant to that government body during the public comment period, even if it’s not on the meeting’s agenda.

This bill is important because it ensures transparency and gives the public a real voice in government decisions. Without this requirement, officials could limit discussion to only what’s on the agenda, making it harder for people to raise important issues

ACTION: Tell the Public Service Subcommittee to vote YES on this common sense bill.

Tennessee: SUPPORT SB0699: DELETING REFERENCES TO WHO IN TN CODE

For pandemic responses, SB 0699 removes any mention of the World Health Organization. Instead, if the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention declares a pandemic, then existing law will continue to say that it’s up to the governor to determine if declaring an emergency in our state is necessary.

This change ensures that pandemic decisions are made at the national and state level rather than relying on an international organization like the WHO.

ACTION: Tell the Senate Health and Welfare Committee to vote YES.
