I was going to the grave mass locally for all souls day and lyric radio was on in my relative's car. The host mentioned pro abortionist Cillian Murphy's new anti Catholic movie. She had recommended everyone to see it, that it was a "must see". The thought suddenly came to me to expect the same movie to be front and centre in two or three years time on RTE for Christmas day viewing. You just know it's going to happen. It is funny how our faith can be tested. For some folk it might be some intellectual issue, for others it might be a chance encounter with a person who claims to be Catholic but whose behaviour is the opposite. The bitter taste in the mouth with regards to the latter can last a long time. Intellectually one can explain away the incident with "there is a difference between being a Catholic versus one in name only". However, we are also emotional beings.

I can imagine most people who hate the Church do so because of a bad interaction with another human being who represents the faith. For example recently, I reached out to a Catholic agency to assist a friend in dire need. The diocese had told me this agency would assist and it is a well known "Catholic" one, which will remain nameless.

I contacted the agency hoping to get some help, not for me, but for a friend. I believed I was contacting a "Catholic" institution with a Catholic approach. Instead I received a typical cold clinical response without even a modicum of empathy. One may as well have contacted a government department.

The truth is, many of these Catholic agencies are NO LONGER Catholic. Then again, is the Church itself even Catholic given the manners in which it currently operates? Intellectually I can understand. These agencies must perform within government guidelines etc etc, but in doing so, they are now no longer Catholic but clinical bureaucratic NGOs where empathy and compassion (not for me, but the person I was hoping to help) are absent.

We are told how "bad" things were in the past. They weren't. Yes, bad eggs existed so to speak but life was more humane and personal. A nurse could call you "love" and not fear getting fired, a secretary on the phone could bypass the jargon and show some humanity, a Catholic agency would first of all inquire "how is Mr or Mrs X coping?" as the first response. Nowadays it is a cold interaction with defined policies with no discretion, let alone charity.

Pray for me, because this has really hit home, and the issue to be resolved wasn't even my own, but for a friend in need. The inclusive Church? The bring in from the margins Church? Yeah, right. Just all corporate speak and no substance. Give me the old days when people were still imperfect but one expected and usually received a human response to human issues.

🇻🇦It’s come to our attention that the Vatican has announced a cartoon mascot for the 2025 Jubilee. On the surface, it looks like a reasonably kid-friendly and wholesome character made to appeal to the youth. However, beneath that, there is a number of troubling concerns.

First of all, the company that designed the characters and the art style, Tokidoki, features Gay Pride merchandise on their website. In our tumultuous times, hordes of progressive demons eager to poach souls for their masters will hang on to every possible word or gesture that they might twist to suggest that living a sinful lifestyle in tune with the modern world is somehow a-ok and sanctioned and approved by the Vatican and the Pope. It should go without saying that cooperating with sodomites and their enablers is scandalous at the very least.

Second issue is that the image and the artstyle represent a misguided approach to guiding today’s youth. On one hand, it comes off as an insincere and out of touch attempt to appeal to young people. On the other hand, it’s been shown time and time again that youth respond very well to strictness and tradition, and the unique features of the Christian Faith, and that all attempts to modernize and liberalize the Church just make it irrelevant. The Church can't compete with the world in the area of worldly goods, it should focus on what the world can't provide. It seems counterintuitive in the modern sense of psychology (as if psychology isn’t a pseudoscience that’s re-written every couple of years), but Discipline is what draws people to the Church, rather than away from it, because it instills a sense of meaning and purpose, something people, especially young people are desperately missing in their lives.

Something of course can be said about anime and surrounding culture. While there are occasionally great works that transcend genre and cultural barriers, overall, anime is a cesspit of techniques and conventions by a deeply broken and humiliated people that should be pitied rather than emulated. The quintessential anime artstyle has been designed to be easily picked up by artistically challenged comic writers, or easily animated by underpaid art students in sweatshops. As such, it often lacks the expressiveness and uniqueness of someone not following these conventions. As creativity is integral to the human soul, we should encourage artists follow their unique voice and vision, not latch on to what is safe and easy.

The preparing by a solemn vigil for the celebration of All Saints' Day probably dates from the Eighth Century, when November 1st was fixed for the celebration of the feast. The fast on this vigil is of universal observance. As on other Vigils, Holy Mass is celebrated in purple vestments, and the liturgy throughout is of a penitential character.

You are warmly welcome to Holy Souls Acocks Green for our all night Prayer Vigil & Adoration Thur 31st October. We begin at 8pm with Holy Mass and end Fri at 7.30am with Holy Mass.

We will be praying the Mysteries of the Flame of Love Rosary, Divine mercy chaplet, St Gertrude Chaplet, Precious Blood of Jesus chaplet, Consecrating ourselves to the Holy Family, surrender novena, all the saints litany and many more.

We will have quiet time with the Lord for reflection and some gentle hymns.

We intend freeing thousands of souls from purgatory!!

Tea, toast and biscuits will be provided through out the night. I recommend wearing an extra layer of clothes.

Taxis will be outside the church if needed. There is secure parking on the left of Holy Souls
