Antidote: N-acetylcysteine (NAC)

Mechanism: Replenishes glutathione, protecting the liver from toxic metabolites.


2. Opioids (e.g., Morphine, Heroin)

Antidote: Naloxone

Mechanism: Opioid receptor antagonist.


3. Benzodiazepines (e.g., Diazepam, Lorazepam)

Antidote: Flumazenil

Mechanism: GABA receptor antagonist.


4. Warfarin

Antidote: Vitamin K (delayed effect), Fresh Frozen Plasma (FFP) (immediate effect)

Mechanism: Reverses anticoagulation.


5. Heparin

Antidote: Protamine sulfate

Mechanism: Neutralizes heparin activity.


6. Digoxin

Antidote: Digoxin-specific antibody fragments (Digibind/DigiFab)

Mechanism: Binds to and inactivates digoxin.


7. Iron

Antidote: Deferoxamine

Mechanism: Chelates free iron for excretion.


8. Methanol or Ethylene Glycol (e.g., Antifreeze)

Antidote: Fomepizole or Ethanol

Mechanism: Inhibits alcohol dehydrogenase, preventing toxic metabolite formation.


9. Organophosphates (e.g., Pesticides)

Antidote: Atropine and Pralidoxime (2-PAM)

Mechanism: Atropine blocks muscarinic effects; pralidoxime reactivates acetylcholinesterase.


10. Cyanide

Antidotes: Hydroxocobalamin, Sodium thiosulfate, Amyl nitrite

Mechanism: Hydroxocobalamin binds cyanide; sodium thiosulfate aids its detoxification.


11. Beta-blockers

Antidote: Glucagon

Mechanism: Increases intracellular cAMP, bypassing beta-adrenergic blockade.


12. Calcium Channel Blockers (e.g., Verapamil, Diltiazem)

Antidote: Calcium gluconate or Calcium chloride

Mechanism: Restores calcium for cardiac and vascular function.


13. Aspirin (Salicylates)

Antidote: Sodium bicarbonate

Mechanism: Alkalinizes urine to enhance excretion.


14. Carbon Monoxide (CO)

Antidote: 100% Oxygen or Hyperbaric Oxygen

Mechanism: Displaces CO from hemoglobin.


15. Lead

Antidotes: EDTA (Calcium Disodium EDTA), Dimercaprol, Succimer (DMSA)

Mechanism: Chelates lead for excretion.


16. Isoniazid (INH)

Antidote: Pyridoxine (Vitamin B6)

Mechanism: Counteracts depletion of GABA in CNS.


17. Sulfonylureas (e.g., Glibenclamide)

Antidote: Octreotide

Mechanism: Reduces insulin release to prevent hypoglycemia.


18. Anticholinergics (e.g., Atropine, Scopolamine)

Antidote: Physostigmine

Mechanism: Acetylcholinesterase inhibitor, increasing acetylcholine levels.


19. Magnesium Sulfate

Antidote: Calcium gluconate

Mechanism: Reverses magnesium toxicity (e.g., respiratory depression).


20. Tricyclic Antidepressants (e.g., Amitriptyline)

Antidote: Sodium bicarbonate

Mechanism: Reduces cardiotoxicity by stabilizing pH.
