Who we're looking for:

*On the engineering side:*
- Experience with AI/ML and computer vision
- Familiarity with tools like LLMs, CLIP, YOLO, etc.
- Skills in web scraping, data pipelines, and MLOps
- Passionate about building things from the ground up and tackling tough problems

*On the business side:*
- Experience with startups and scaling businesses
- Knowledge of fundraising and building investor relationships
- Skills in sales and forming partnerships, especially in the AI or tech space
- Nice to have: coding skills and understanding of LLMs, prompting, etc.
- Ready to wear multiple hats and dive into challenges headfirst

Atla is a London-based startup that is building AI for automatic evaluation and testing of other AI products. More specifically, they are training LLMs to assess other models while also providing a handy API for genAI app developers.

Why is this necessary? Well, for example, to make sure that your model won’t suggest its users to keep cheese on their pizza with superglue 😳

Why LLMs? Because assessing models with human efforts is very expensive and hard-to-scale. General-purpose models aren’t doing too well on this front, and Atla is one of the pioneers in developing supervisor models.

They received $5M in seed funding — this was the biggest round in the S23 batch — from Y Combinator, Creandum and founders of Reddit and Cruise.

We are looking for a Founding ML Engineer to join their team. You will be, erm, supervising the development of fine-tuning frameworks and LLMs, collaborating with the research team on data generation, and doing other stuff that important ML experts do 🧑‍💻

Responsibilities

I'm Abeer, a data scientist and a Cheveningfcdo awardee who has graduated from the University of Sheffield, UK with a master's degree in Data Science. I am highly interested in NLP (and Arabic NLP). About you
- 3+ years experience in a professional setting
- Experience with NLP problems: NER, sentence embeddings, unsupervised learning, SOTA models
- Familiarity with OpenAI: prompt engineering, JSON responses and function calling
- Proficiency with Python and machine learning frameworks
- Experience with lean/agile development and test-driven development practices preferred
- Understanding of the AWS ecosystem for ML
- Experience with OCR, CV models and techniques would be beneficial
- Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing

What the job involves
- Take ownership of data science and work directly with the Head of Product and founders
- Plan and present progress on data science work to a business audience
- Learn how our products work, and how our customers think, to evaluate how data science can contribute to customer value
- Work closely with the Engineering team lead and software engineers to ensure our data science stack is integrated into our product
- Evaluate and improve our current models for skills extraction and matching
- Constantly look for new data sources applicable for data extraction for skills assessment purposes
- Implementation of best practices for retraining models as well as monitoring the performance of models in production (MLops)
- Deployment of ML models in the production environment
