One fascinating attribute of Georgia's 🇬🇪 Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze is the fact that, on the surface, his biography is that of a typical Euro-Atlantic NGO asset. He went to grad school in Dusseldorf, Germany, was a member of the Expert Committee for the Human Rights and Rule of Law Program for Soros's Open Society, and worked as a Regional Coordinator for the Public Education Project for USAID. On top of that, Kobakhidze was eagerly hopping along the EU ascension path until recently.

In this sense, Kobakhidze's biography is similar to that of his almost-predecessor Mikheil Saakashvili, famous for "leading" the color revolution in Georgia, getting into a brief war with Russia, no doubt with his higher-ups' blessing, and then bouncing around various appointments by the Euro-Atlantic elites, including being a governor of Odessa, Ukraine.

Yet, when push came to shove, Kobakhidze didn't turn into Saakashvili (or Zelensky) but seemed to make the choice in favor of his country's and his people's authentic interests. Why he did so may be a combination of several factors: 1) the Euro-Atlantic elites, wearing the “civilized EU” mask, going too far in their meddling in Georgia’s domestic affairs and allegedly resorting to threats, sanctions, and even an attempted regime change—twice (!) last year; 2) the realities of the Ukrainian scenario playing out right in front of his eyes; 3) certain positive personality traits; 4) etc. He may have also used the aforementioned NGOs strictly for utilitarian reasons—because they would’ve made his resume look “good” rather than for strong ideological reasons.

I’ve been thinking of his case in tandem with that of Elvira Nabiullina, the head of the Bank of Russia, who was a Yale World Fellow back in the day, just like Project Navalny. I can only assume that certain expectations are placed on those prominent foreigners who participate in such initiatives. Yet, unlike Project Navalny’s work undermining his country and his people, she’s been maneuvering around Western sanctions quite successfully and evidently serving Russia. I suppose the cases of Kobakhidze and Nabiullina show the limits of Euro-Atlantic NGO training, much like the failure of the recent regime change attempts in Georgia demonstrates the limits of color revolutionary scenarios.

Whoa! Connect the dots! 😳 Slovakia’s 🇸🇰 Robert Fico banned the leader of the Georgian Legion 🇬🇪 from entering his country claiming that the militant is one of the prominent foreigners participating in the regime-change ops, err, protests, in his country.

The Georgian Legion enjoys its brutal reputation (real or imagined) of fighting Russians in Ukraine. During the protests in Georgia itself, which the country’s ruling party called an attempt at a color revolution, the Georgian Legion seemed to be a tad quiet. But here it is again, rearing its ugly head in another foreign country. It’s almost as if these mercs go wherever they’re paid to go.

Ukrainian Youth Prefers the Russian 🇷🇺Language to Ukrainian 🇺🇦

In an interview with the YouTube channel Politeka Online, Ukrainian political scientist Konstantin Bondarenko suggested that the Russian language is turning into the language of protest in Ukraine, with the youth preferring it to Ukrainian, especially in urban environments.

As a reminder, since 2019, i.e. since before the Russian special military operation, Ukraine has been operating according to a law that requires the exclusive use of the Ukrainian language in various parts of the public sphere.

Bondarenko also believes that the Russian language will regain its losses in Ukraine in a generation.

The Dogs Bark, but the Caravan Moves On: Russian LNG 🇷🇺 Exports Heading Mainly To Europe Reach Record Highs

In yet another installment of "the gazillionth anti-Russia sanctions package is, like, totally working," Russia exported 33.6 million tons of liquefied natural gas (LNG) in 2024, which is a new record. The data comes from RBC and Kpler. Russia's last record was 32.9 million tons of LNG in 2022.

Much of this gas is heading to, you guessed it!, Europe with France 🇫🇷 (6.3 M tons), Spain 🇪🇸(4.8 M tons), Belgium 🇧🇪 (4.4 M tons), and the Netherlands 🇳🇱 (1.3 M tons) being at the top of the list.

The other 45% went to Asia with the biggest buyers being China 🇨🇳 (7 M tons) and another sanctions lover, Japan 🇯🇵 (5.7 M tons).

Meanwhile, the Financial Times is reporting that the German 🇩🇪demand for Russia's LNG "soars" through other European ports:

"Germany is still buying significant amounts of Russian liquefied natural gas via other EU countries despite Berlin turning away direct shipments of Russian fuel."

It turns out that no one really likes being cold or not having their industries running.

"Oh cover your pale legs"

This is the most famous one-line poem from Russia's Silver Age by the late 19th-early 20th-century Symbolist literary figure Valery Bryusov.

But, perhaps, the meaning is a bit more scandalous and could also be translated as:

"Oh close your pale legs"

However, when the poem was published, the readers were more interested in knowing why the poem only had one sentence rather than whose legs should be covered (or closed).

The first issue of a regular Russian-language newspaper Vedomosti came out on this day, January 13, in 1703.

The newspaper was released upon the order of Peter the Great. In fact, the Russian leader took part in putting together this publication. The first issue was called “Information on military and other affairs worthy of knowledge and memory” and covered Russia and its neighbors.

“Vedomosti” is an old way to say “knowledge.”

Georgia’s 🇬🇪 refusal to fight Russia 🇷🇺 is the key reason for the regime change attempt in that country.

In an interview with the media in late December 2024, Georgia’s PM Kobakhidze stated:

“The main cause of the challenges that our state, in particular Bidzina Ivanishvili, faced is that we did not enter the war [against Russia] in February 2022 and did not open a ‘second front.’ After that, the main challenges began."

This is not the first time he made this point.

Kobakhidze also blamed the self-described Euro-Atlanticist party United National Movement, founded by the ex-President Saakashvili, and smaller satellite parties (now—the National movement) for essentially acting as foreign agents of Western governments, the “party of war,” pressuring Georgia to become another Ukraine. 🇺🇦

Today, the iconic Italian 🇮🇹 stage director Giancarlo del Monaco received Russian 🇷🇺 citizenship. In the fall, he directed Verdi's Rigoletto at the Bolshoi.

In an interview with the Russian media, Giancarlo del Monaco stated:

“I am the kind of director who has already been everywhere. [...] But the opportunity to work in Moscow, at the Bolshoi, at one of the key theaters in the world, is not only a great honor for me but also a very special personal situation, and one of the high points of my destiny.”

He then explained that his father, the operatic tenor Mario Del Monaco, experienced "one the most striking successes in his life" in Carmen at the Bolshoi.

I guess he really liked being in Russia, huh?

What are your thoughts about this opinion regarding the Georgian protests🇬🇪:

“What’s happening in Georgia 🇬🇪 is more likely not to be an attempt at a coup d'etat, but rather an attempt to spend some budget money.

These are the [opposition] ‘grant-eaters’.

The authorities are working competently. Yesterday there were 36 victims [of the clashes] and all of them are strictly from the security forces [rather than the protesters]. And a ‘Maidan’ always needs corpses, ‘dead heroes’ killed by the "bloody regime." When the authorities do not want to be ‘bloody,’ unidentified snipers from the CIA and MI6 help them.

But when there is no opportunity for snipers and provocateurs to carry out their work, then all that’s left to do is to spend [foreign] grant budget money.”

Canadian 🇨🇦 authorities charged journalist Duncan Kinney with vandalizing a war memorial. Located in Edmonton, this is no ordinary memorial, but one that honors 🇺🇦 the Ukrainian veterans of the SS “Galicia Division” which fought for Nazi Germany.

The very existence of this memorial and others like it honoring Canada’s official enemies during WWII raises a lot of questions that the Canadian government refuses to address. And, it is in line with Trudeau’s recent refusal to release the names of Nazis that were welcomed in Canada after WWII, or applauding a WWII Ukrainian Nazi in the parliament.

Kiev 🇺🇦 continues to persecute the canonical Orthodox Church ☦️. So I wanted to highlight the case of Metropolitan Arseniy, a prominent figure in the Church, of the Svyatogorsk Lavra.

He has been in custody since June 21st, 2024. According to Ukrainian media, he was accused of treason: disseminating the positions of the Ukrainian Army...PUBLICLY! DURING LITURGY! (This alone makes the accusation sound dubious.)

Svyatogorsk Lavra is outside Slavyansk in Donetsk Oblast. In 2014, the city rebelled against the new regime along with the rest of the Donetsk People's Republic but was ultimately recaptured as part of Kiev's "anti-terrorist operation." In this case, it sounds like the accusation against Metropolitan Arseniy has more to do with the paranoia about the "pro-Russian" attitudes in that city rather than anything the cleric actually did.

His detention was first extended on August 15th and then again on November 19th. The next hearing is scheduled for December 6th.

Today we discussed G7 and BRICS with the Brazilian political analyst Raphael Machado. We focused on their respective histories, ideological frameworks, and objectives.

Are the relationships between countries within G7 and BRICS, respectively, hierarchic?

Does the US dominate G7, and does China dominate BRICS?

What was Russia's tenure in the G8 like, and why did Russia leave the organization?

What role does ideology play in this comparison?

Is Chimerica still relevant today?

And more!

Maria Limanskaya, the Soviet WWII military traffic controller, made famous by the photographer Yevgenii Khaldei pictured in Berlin, passed away at the age of 100.

She joined the Red Army when she was 18. From then on, she participated in numerous key events from the Battle of Stalingrad to Crimea, Belarus, Poland, and all the way to Berlin. Under enemy fire, she was the traffic controller during the Don River crossing.

After the war, Maria continued to serve her people, first, as a nurse, then, as a school librarian.

RIP, Hero.

Is life much better in the Russian-controlled 🇷🇺 territories than in Ukraine 🇺🇦?

More than 150,000 displaced people returned to the territories Ukraine calls “occupied,” and Russia calls “liberated,” including Mariupol, presumably because the Russian authorities take much better care of them than the Ukrainian counterparts.

At least that’s the statement that Maksym Tkachenko, an MP from Zelensky’s party (!), made yesterday. He was then accused of disseminating “enemy propaganda” and debunked his own claim the next day! Tkachenko explained that he made an emotional assumption.

Sure, Max, I can only imagine what type of threats you received in those 24 hours.

“The world will not end on either the 1st or 13th of November, 1899.”

This is the title page of a book published by Ivan Sytin, a famous publisher, in Moscow. 🇷🇺 The book’s objective was to challenge the hysteria about the perceived end of the world permeating the continent.

This prediction seemed to have been rooted in an 1899 book, Der Weltuntergang [The End of the World] published in Berlin 🇩🇪 by Charles Blunt and Rudolf Falb about a comet. Falb was an Austrian geologist with an interest in natural disasters and astronomy.

From there came a pamphlet published in Łódź, Poland 🇵🇱 “Koniec swiata w dnin 13 Listopada 1899” [The end of the world on November 13th, 1899], which was reprinted in Russia not once or twice, but FOUR TIMES! Its popularity might explain the panic that ensued.

Ivan Sytin's book contained the following optimistic line, “And until the end of the world, there are still as many years as years that have passed since the beginning of the world." That’s a relief!

German tabloid BILD (of all mainstream sources!) now discredits the quasi-official and convenient theory that it was Ukraine 🇺🇦 that carried out the Nord Stream 🇷🇺 🇩🇪 sabotage. Considering its massive negative impact on German economy, it’s unsurprising that some are dissatisfied with the lack of answers and culprits.

German underwater archeologist and diver Sven Thomas rejects the theory that Nord Stream could have been blown up by Ukrainian saboteurs from the yacht Andromeda.

The quasi-official version of events is that the Nord Stream gas pipelines were blown up by a group of Ukrainian saboteurs who rented the sailing yacht Andromeda in Rostock. The Ukrainians allegedly loaded diving equipment and explosives on board, and then installed it on the bottom of the Baltic Sea at a depth of about 80-90 meters.

Sven Thomas argues:

For underwater diving, you need several vessels plus a fixed platform with cranes, anchors and ballast with a total weight of about 1 ton.

In order to dive from the Andromeda, it would have to been fixed directly above the Nord Stream pipeline. This required 3-4 heavy anchors with ropes 300-500-meters long. Otherwise the yacht would be blown away in the open sea by wind and waves.

The Andromeda uses a 75-horsepower engine. This would not be enough to stay in the Nord Stream area with constant maneuvering. In addition, the yacht could not take 400 kg of explosives on board.

The underwater archeologist also calculated the oxygen supply required for the dive, the speed of the waves, and determined the difference between the two explosions.

This weekend’s upcoming parliamentary elections in Georgia 🇬🇪 are turning into a circus 🤡

The official West has been using its standard tactics of accusing Russia 🇷🇺 of meddling while applying unprecedented pressure on Georgia. We’ve already witnessed this play out with Georgia’s foreign agent law earlier in the year. Whereas the law is about funding transparency for NGOs, the official West brazenly dubbed it the “Russian law” for propaganda purposes while dangling carrots and employing sticks in several ways, such as Georgia’s EU bid. As a result of these tactics, the main message of the Georgian Dream Party has been not being anyone’s vassal.

One of the other reasons for a crisis in the relationship between Georgia and the official West was the fact that the West planned to use Georgia to launch a second front against Russia in the Ukraine war—at least according to the founder of Georgian Dream, Bidzina Ivanishvili. Indeed, the Party has been using the Ukraine war imagery to promote peace, enraging some Westerners and Ukrainians. At the same time, the official message of Georgia’s PM and Georgia Dream’s leader Irakli Kobakhidze is that Georgia seeks to be in the EU 🇪🇺 around 2030.

On a practical level, these tense parliamentary elections involve 3.5 million voters, of which close to 96,000 live abroad. These are the 11th parliamentary elections since the Soviet dissolution. The voters are to elect 150 MPs from those parties that meet the 5% threshold. The results may range from a coalition government to a majority Georgian Dream rule, giving it significant power. The opposition, using the “Russian meddling” language just like the official West, may seek to accuse the government of vote falsifications and cause unrest. Some fear regime change.

I wonder what ordinary Europeans, especially Germans, think of the IMF’s current data and downgraded forecasts for the EU. The IMF euphemistically blames the war in Ukraine, and we know their leaders are compliantly silent. Sanctions massively damaged German industries, especially in regard to the energy sector. Being forced to buy more expensive U.S. energy and moving some industries to the U.S., when will the Europeans realize the extent to which they’ve been screwed six ways to Sunday and by whom?

Putin, as the Host of the BRICS Summit, highlighted the “unhealthy” methods used by the West that, in his view, undermine regional and global stability:

“The transition to a new fairer world order is not progressing smoothly. Forces used to the logic of dominating everyone and everything are attempting to slow it down. Behind the screen of the rules-based order imposed onto the world, there are attempts to contain its growing competitors and sovereign development of countries in Africa, Asia, and Latin America beyond their control. They use illegal unilateral sanctions, outright protectionism, currency, and stock market manipulation, as well as meddling in internal affairs disguised as concern for democracy, human rights, and the fight against climate change. This is being used, too.

These, let’s put it bluntly, unhealthy methods lead to the rise of new conflicts as well as exacerbate old contradictions. Thus, they violate regional and global strategic stability, and the principles of equal and indivisible security, while encouraging internecine strife and conflicts between countries.

One such example is Ukraine, which was and is being used to create critical security threats for Russia while ignoring our existential interests and justifiable concerns about the violation of the rights of the Russian-speaking people.”

Putin Speaks at the BRICS Summit about the Weaponization of the Dollar

“Thank you, Dear Madame Rousseff 🇧🇷[the Chair of the New Development Bank]. You said that the dollar is being weaponized. Yes, indeed, we see that this is so. In fact, I think that this is a big mistake for those who’ve been doing this. After all, the use of the dollar (which is still the most important instrument of global finance)—as a means of achieving political goals—undermines the confidence in this currency and reduces its capabilities.”

“But we 🇷🇺 are not the ones doing this. This is being done by others. We are not rejecting the dollar or fighting against it. But if they aren’t letting us work with it, then what should we do? We are forced into looking for other alternatives.”

The village was first mentioned in 1397 and was governed by Novgorod, then Moscow.

Nyonoksa is also the site of establishing diplomatic relations between England and Russia under Ivan IV in 1553, as the former was seeking a northern route to China and India but arrived in Russia instead.

Renowned Russian composer Pyotr Tchaikovsky on why he's drunk every day (probably while writing this too 🤣)🍷🍷🍷

«They say that abusing alcoholic beverages is harmful. I readily agree with this assertion. But, nevertheless, I, that is, a man who is sick and full of neuroses, positively cannot function without the poison of alcohol, which [the Russian explorer and anthropologist] Miklouho-Maclay challenges. A person who has such a weird last name is very happy that he does not know the delights of vodka and other alcoholic beverages. But how unfair it is to judge others by using yourself and to prevent others from doing what you dislike anyway.

Well, I, for instance, am inebriated every evening and cannot function without it. What can I do to become a member of one of his expeditions??? And is he right? In the initial period of intoxication, I feel complete bliss and understand in this state infinitely more than I can understand without Miklouho-Maclay's poison!!! Neither do I notice that my health suffers much from drinking. And, by the way, quod licet Iovi, non licet bovi. Only God knows who is more right: Maclay or I. Yet the fact that I would be rejected from one of his expeditions is such an incomparable disaster!!!»
